@Vivatrev: My sincere condolences 💐 to you! My Mum has also recently passed on too, exactly one week after her 💯th Birthday on the 20/January/2021 from COVID-19. She performed her war service in the ATS, mainly at Castle Donnington Camp in Nottinghamshire, then also rising to the rank of Corporal. She ‘demobed’ shortly after VE Day, in order to marry my Dad in June 1945! RIP Forever both our dear Mums & Dads & Dame Vera, as well of-course!!

This song has always touched me deeply, about 10 years ago I met a girl of Japanese descent on school, she was always very lonely, she never spoke to anyone and almost always did not participate in school groups, I took the courage to talk to her, and she told me that was never one to talk to a lot of people and she suffered a lot of pressure from her parents, since then I've been more present in her life, had lunch together, talked and I always included her in my groups if possible, despite some discussions ( like all good friendships), I always liked her shy way, when she face some problem, and wanted my help, instead of touching my shoulder or calling my name, she would look at me for a very long time until I notice her, our friendship was always the reason she never wanted to change school, the same with me, we cared about each other, but... When we went to college, like any relationship, we started to distance ourselves, she got her own group of friends, and so did I, we followed our lives naturally... It's been about 5 years since I've seen her, i miss her so much, it reminded me of the time I told her when i was little, that we would always be friends, even if i never see her again, I'm glad I caused an impact on her life, and she on mine... I hope we can meet again, someday.

1:41 this bit with the crowd singing reminds me of an old memory
There was this history teacher in our class that everyone loved and at the end of each lesson he’d play this song as we left.
About a 2 years into this school we heard in assembly that he had passed away.i kid you not the second the principal said that, we all sang this perfectly.
It sounded exactly similar to this part in the song
Goodbye mr edwinson, we will miss you 😢

@@grugamersriseup7299 Honestly from my experience I'd say tea but it definetly differentiates from person to person & coffee is still incredibly popular amongst people, but tea for example is usually what is more easily accessible to people, especially younger generations. For example, not sure how it is usually but you often wouldn't see children drinking coffee but it wouldn't be that surprising to see a child drinking tea -- or in the UK, usually the classic black tea with milk.

This song... captures the "stiff upper lip" mentality of the British, in a song of very clear fear, of people leaving home, knowing they might not come back, but absolutely resolute in steadfast refusal to despair. As hauntingly sad as it is that the need for such a song came about, I think it's something Britain should be proud of.

With both American and British being more of a broad term of different cultures that all join together for one big and kind of complex group
British and American are quite unique if you think of the different cultures
Though for example countries like China and Russia also have this IE
You can be Tibetan , but also Chinese , however that doesn’t really work as well / the same since Tibetan and Chinese are already 2 different distinct cultures that don’t really get along to well , with Chinese already bean a large group of similar cultures already

My great grandfather fought in ww2 as a squadron leader in the RAF. He got captured and made friends with a captain from Australia. They escaped together got caught again and as a punishment they released German Shepherds after the Australian captain. In the words he quoted " Run. Run and don't look back. " My great grandfather was forced to watch it happen. He watched his mate of 2 years get torn to shreds by dogs. He didn't sleep properly for around a year and was often found screaming up against a wall when remembering the sighting. I often think about that and the Captains family and if they found out what happened to him as he was only in his early 20's. May he rest in peace.
My great grandfather would never speak about this. He only said it once. When he was trapped in Greece any soldier's who they could not help they would lay underneath the olive Garden trees and let the planes bomb over the gardens. ( With their knowledge of what was about to happen of course. )
He hid his gun and coat from the enemy under an olive tree. They probably have been found but it would be a treasure to find them.
May everyone who died for us Rest In Peace.
And everyone who came back without their friends and family members along side them find peace.
This song gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. It gave soldiers hope.

This song really makes me tear up. At the beginning of the school year I made a wonderful friend and she was always happy and would brighten my days. I'd look forward to seeing her in class and she was also my wing woman. When I got friendzoned by my crush she was there to help me when I was down and she cured my sadness. She has a boyfriend and they have an amazing relationship and I started to notice that I should back off from face timing and texting her because I would hate to get attached to a girl that's in a relationship. I would never want to affect a relationship especially when it's been going on for a while now. She's been a great friend and is switching out of my class because the teacher is too harsh on her. As long as she's happy right? There's an odd sadness I have that I won't see her next semester but it's for the better. So this song is what I dedicate to her. For me to take my distance away from her and her leaving my class. Sometimes good people will come into your life just to teach you how to let go. Farewell to the girl I couldn't love.

Our struggles, triumphs and even anxieties have been one from the very beginning, always seeking to carve or places in the world and to stand down the would be tyrants of fascist and communist Europe; thank you, Britons, for all you've given to your friends and children across the pond: your will to write, your rugged stability against the rest of the world and your example in law. But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
    Продовжуйте посміхатися
    Keep smiling through
    Як завжди
    Just like you always do
«Поки блакитне небо не прожене темні хмари далеко
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
    Тож будь ласка, привітайтеся
So will you please say hello
    До тих, кого я знаю
To the folks that I know
Скажи їм, що я не довго
Tell them I won't be long
    Вони будуть раді знати
    They'll be happy to know
Як ти бачив, як я пішов
That as you saw me go
    Я співав цю пісню
    I was singing this song
    Ми ще зустрінемося
    We'll meet again
    Не знаю де
    Don't know where
    Не знаю коли
    Don't know when
Але я знаю, що ми знову зустрінемося в сонячний день
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
    Ми ще зустрінемося
    We'll meet again
    Не знаю де
    Don't know where
    Не знаю коли
    Don't know when
Але я знаю, що ми знову зустрінемося в сонячний день
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
    Продовжуйте посміхатися
    Keep smiling through
    Як завжди
    Just like you always do
    «До синього неба
    'Til the blue skies
    Віджени темні хмари далеко
Drive the dark clouds far away
    Тож будь ласка, привітайтеся
So will you please say hello
    До тих, кого я знаю
To the folks that I know

May every soul who was lost, every man who went into battle not knowing weather he would ever see his loved ones again. He didn’t know weather he would return to his home, his family, or weather he had a chance. Not knowing where he was going, weather in France, Russia, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, Italy, or Austria. May they all rest in piece forever, war is hell, and the soldiers are not meant to pay the price of a power hungry tyrant. Weather in the First World War or the second. May they be remembered forever, and may their lives never be forgotten by humanity.

My great grandad fought in the 7th armoured division , 8th army too. He was a sergeant. He used artillery and was a tank commander. Sergeant Charles Russell 1917-1989 , RIP. Maybe they both knew each other. Thank you to all of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives so we can live in freedom , you will never be forgotten.

My great grandparents had an interesting story. Apparently, my great grandfather was an american soldier, specifically a radio operator. In case you didn't know, those guys with the radios almost always died, as the bulky radios slowed them down AND revealed their positions. The fact that he survived despite the circumstances is truly insane. He didn't only survive though, as he was in Germany at some point and met my German great grandmother who he later married and had my grandparents with. They came back to America after the war and lived long enough to see my grandparents have my dad and aunt, but unfortunately never got to see me and I never got to see them. From what my parents have told me, they were really great people so I'm a bit disappointed I never got to meet them. I hope one day I will finally talk to them.

"Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
    Remember how she said that
    We would meet again
    Some sunny day?
    Vera, Vera
    What has become of you
    Does anybody else in here
    Feel the way I do?"

An AMAZING gallery of wartime images to accompany such a heartfelt song, by the incomparable Vera Lynn. Beautifully done! My mum Winifred was a codebreaker at Bletchley Park, 1943-45, and my father Tadeusz fought at Monte Cassino, May 1944 (and many other battles).
