This is the best video I have seen for this procedure so far ! I have been watching these trying to figure out how to do this myself. You make it look very easy which I am sure it is not. What is the proper Trans fluid for 2010 HHR ?

that's for transmissions with like 200k on them with original fluid. Removing the grit in the old fluid can cause the trans to slip. It's better to replace the fluid like every 50 to 100k and you won't run into this issue.

    Ahhhh......
    Just lovely.
My fill port's plug is a rubber plug,
just like you'd find in a floorboard.
    (& hole's not threaded)
Wish me luck on filter change.
I'm not sure what else will not be to spec.s for this vehicle or others.
    LMAO... not

Did you have the engine running when you pulled the drain plug out and filled the transmission? Also one thing my dad used to do and please don’t diss my dad, he used to punch a small hole into the transmission pan let it drain, take it out and clean it hammer the hole flat and then bronze the hole closed. It always worked and never leaked ever.

I pulled a spec sheet and filled it. Some times I cut the car off so people can hear me better. We have been in automotive for 86 years and back in the day that’s how the all did it, including my dad.

    • @glennranger4091
      @glennranger4091 Рік тому

Exactly, in my fathers garage business I would pull out the tranny‘s and give them to my dad he would rebuild them and I would install them back in the car, but these HHRs I still don’t know when you’re filling it with that plug out does the motor have to be running in park or shut off until it flows out of the hole?

Can you use one of those siphon pumps like we use on simple gearbox, differential, etc, to take out the old fluid? Would be much cleaner.

You could leave the car leaning to 1 side to localize the drainage then level the car before adding fluid.

Just a suggestion, let one side down and let it drain then take the rest of the bolts out

Because being level is only required to refill it; why not raise the front only, loosen the back of the pan to let out enough fluid to make it more manageable, then proceed as shown?

Question on these hhr's, is dropping the transmission pan the only way to drain the transfluid on them or is there a drain plug underneath as well?

It's supposed to be a "sealed" transmission. The manual transmission is the same way.
