As a 3rd generation carpenter I can tell you there is a slight grip change from a downward hammering motion to a horizontal hammering motion. The horizontal hammering grip resembles a strong golf grip. Using a downward hammering motion grip to hammer horizontally turns the right palm up. The grip shift for horizontal hammering sets the palm somewhat perpendicular to the direction of the hammering motion with the thumb/ index finger v pointed to the right shoulder.
I arrived at this same conclusion independently about a month ago. It is absolutely correct. A square club face at address does not equal a square club face at full swing. I now address the ball at 45% and then rotate my arms backward to the position of 'swing impact' while at address to ensure this is square with the target. If it is square I am good to go because logic dictates this will be the angle at which the club face will impact the ball when I swing hard at the ball. This neutral grip position should have been debunked years ago. It is why we slice as soon as we start putting any power into our swing. So we end up swinging slow and trying to artificially time the closing of the club face.
So you ground the club 45 degrees closed and take a grip with your lead hand facing the target? So back of your lead hand square to target but club face 45 degrees closed at address? Did I get that right?
Has taken me over a year to find this gem of a video and hands down this is the best golf advice/lesson I've ever had. Instantly compressing the ball and has helped increase my carry distances +15-20 yards. Thank you Shawn!!
Shawn's the best golf teacher period. I've been watching his videos for a few years now and he has single-handedly been responsible for my golf addiction! I always recommend his videos to anyone I golf with. I love the way he teaches and simplifies the golf swing versus others who unnecessarily over complicate the swing. These videos are getting me pumped for the upcoming season!
Yeah man, we are getting pumped too; Savy and I are getting ready this week for next week’s PGA Merchandise show in Orlando; let us know what you would like us to cover in our videos!
So, so easy to relate to everything you show and say. The beauty of it all is the simplicity, after all 90% of golfers will never play to elite level, or have the perfect swing, or hit the ball flush every time, far from it. You’ve never lost sight of that, it’s why I watch and learn.
Thank you for sharing Mr. Clement, I tried for the first time you neutral grip with the a 30 degree close face. And Lo and Behold my tee shots found the middle of the fairway. My fairway shots were towards the greens, You just got a new convert to your school of thoughts. By the way I’m 82 ya old and I’m a student of golf. I have gone thru Ben Hogan, Gravity Golf, Jerry Heard, Natural Golf, Mike Austin, Channel Lock, Darrel Klassen, etc. your technique I find the easiest to comprehend.
Thank you for your terrific comment Napoleon; that hits the heart! 👍👌❤️😀 We are not only students of the game but also human movement pattern students in all of sports; and they all have incredible connections as they all include the laws of the planet combined with the same anatomy. We live in an amazing playground!
I didn't start hitting bombs until I went strong with my grip. Now I can turn my body through the ball with everything I have and I don't have to worry about timing the roll or flip of my hands. When I get it working right, it's the most beautiful feeling I've had playing golf.
Pre-tournament day I don’t pick up Hogan’s Five Fundamentals to revisit lessons on the grip... I land right here and watch the coach provide a masterclass on how your paws are supposed to correctly operate to cut dandelion stem through to the target... over the past several months I have adopted the “Sav Grip” and I have been stripping it amping up ball speed and right to left ball flight. I am a believer... no joke people. Listen to this man (and pun intended) get a grip. Thanks again Sean.
Ok, just tried this at the range, after all the youtube videos telling me a strong grip causes problems, and not only was i hitting it over a club further but more consistantly straight too! The strike felt fantastic! And it worked with every club, including driver. She's still hitting it further than me though.....it's not fair.....
Just want to say thanks. I used to shank/slice and would aim left to land in the fairway at about 150-170 yards. After your videos I changed my grip and start rotating more. I feel like I am swinging half as hard and I am now hitting 220-250 straight. Night and day after watching like 5 videos. My mind was blown. Thank you.
Right on Phil! Glad you are enjoying the content and are able to apply some of these nuggets to your game and are able to experience some nice sensations! 😀👍💪 Great on you and stay dialled into our channel for all your shots!
Greetings from Mexico, Shawn I want to give you a big GRACIAS!! Your teaching is absolutely great, simple and makes sense, I have followed your advises and I am gaining at least 50 yards more with the driver, now I am the longest of my golf buddies, again Thank! Keep up the good job
Man I needed this. Just yesterday I was doing a driver fitting and the guy tried to change my grip from “strong” to “neutral”. I feel so much better now. Thanks to both of you. I can’t wait to follow Savannah’s progress. Best of luck!
I let a pro switch me to a weaker grip and I went from hitting a 7 iron 160yard to barely getting 140yards. I spent the next 2 years spraying golf balls all over hell's half acre. Listening to Shawn got me back on track and got my game better than before.
@@dpardo74 Same here bro! I went from 180yrds to 150.. The saddest part is that i went from perfect shaft lean to almost fliiping and I spend the last 6 moths trying to have the lean back and feel like i could never swing as hard as i did before
found your site yesterday, went to the driving range today and NAILED IT. I altered my grip and let my right elbow detach from my right side, used my legs and 15 to 29 meters further. Having been told to keep my right elbow tucked in was the worst advice I have ever had and it has cost me yardage for years. Thanks from this Kiwi in sunny NZ.
YES Strong Grippers for the win. thanks for the confirmation strong grips work. sometime the doubt creeps in but all the great looking solid shots far outweigh the rubbish.
Just make sure to swing the club head to the right. The feeling should be like your trying to fling the head of the club 45 degrees to the right. I turned 250 yard pull hooks/draws or 200 yard duck hooks into 285 to 300 yard drives. The grip alone gave me extra distance. By throwing the club head to the right it maximizes club head speed. It took me 11 years to understand how to swing a golf club for power. The only swing thought I have now is balanced finish. It ensures I have a smooth tempo that relaxes my arms and body, which leads to maximum power.
Boy, this speaks to me big time. Adios neutral grip! Strong grip (feels slightly heavier in my hands), ball slightly back of center and throw it to the target. That journey starts today. Thank you! 👍🏽
All the teachers I’ve been watching say amateurs should use neutral grip. I took a few lessons 15 years ago the teacher told me to do exactly what you say. Close club face at address and the take your grip. I stopped doing, but tried today at range and it much more solid!!!! I’m going back to it!!!
Gamechanger! It made me also re-evaluate my "bowed left wrist" and I played my best round in a long time the first time out on the course. Works with every club. This is going to be fun!
@@golflessons I am going to sign up, right now, for your premium channel. I am also going to tell everybody I know, outside of the guys I play golf with, about your phenomenal way of teaching the game :) lol
Shawn i watched this clip a week or so ago. Listening to your explanation was as if you had been watching me swing a club. All the faults with the "neutral" grip you explained was exactly what i had. So i tried Savvy"s grip on the first tee with a long iron. Three balls in the water from duck hooks to the left (I'm a right hander) because i was so tuned into a conscious rotation of the hands to square the face. Anyway once i realized i just had to swing, and not think, funny things happened. Ball went far further, like 20 plus yards further. The flight was straight at the green with a draw that took it left of the green. A correction through the round had me aiming right to hit center. Not a perfect result every time, but I'm talking a round, not the range. By the end of the round i was hitting it further and crisper every shot with a visual and somewhat controlled draw as opposed to a weak fade cut shot if i mucked it up. Biggest single improvement to my game i have seen in the shortest time frame. Thanks to you both.
Played today and tried the strong grip, major improvement. Love the ball flight I have now and the added distance. Never hit shots like this before. Great video. Thanks so much.

I used to think that both hands needed to be really close together, as in melded. I eventually found that a grip pretty much like this is the only way to get my right hand involved enough in the swing to provide real whip in the right direction. It had an instant impact on my game, and I've never gone back.
This makes so much sense. My daughter is trying to transition from her softball/volleyball life to golf and I've been trying to train her to change her grip to square from her natural tendency to take your grip. Boy have I been wrong. You will have two new subscribers.
Shawn Savannah. Watched these videos, went to the driving range and started bashing balls with my old grip. Same result; slice and miserable distance. So I then tried Savannah’s grip and setup with the hands forward and...bam. It’s like the man beamed me down a new golf swing. Got to say it just feels so right, so comfortable. I just want to go swing the golf club all day😂 Thank you so much for your videos & wisdom. Lefty in paradise🤣🤣🤣
Finally!!! It took me about a week to understand the strong grip/club face relationship. It clicked when I gripped it and lifted the club out in front me to see the closed face, but when put back to the ground it's a square face. I was working from a "best practice" neutral grip. Will keep working on it. Thanks for the great training videos!
It is this grip that brings the talent home for the vast majority of golfers!! See “most important grip video ever shawn clement” and “weak grip vs strong grip shawn clement” (an oldie but goodie)
Hi Shawn, Thank you for this video and all of your content. As a former college baseball player now passionate about golf(right hand dominant left handed swinger) , I find this strong grip much more natural. My biggest problems have always been swinging too hard and finishing on my back foot. While most golf instructors have tried to coach my baseball swing out of my muscle memory, I find your drills much easier to comprehend. I can’t wait to get out to the range and practice everything I’ve picked up in your videos. Seriously considering joining the premium content to continue to try and make strides in my golf game!
Good! KEEP THE BASEBALL SWING!!!!! It is gold for the golf swing!!! See “most important video on grip ever shawn clement” for a nice confirmation of this one!
WoW, Absolutely Amazing Video!!! I have been struggling with finding out the reason why I can hit the ball straight. Either slice the ball or goes right of target line. I have been using a strong grip but not strong enough I guess because this made it all come together. I went to the range today and this did Amazing for my ability to hit the ball straighter. With more practice I hope to find a solution to my fairway finding problems. I thank you so much. Cheers!!
Right on Scott! Glad you understand why and the only other piece of the puzzle would be how the club releases the anatomy of the arms when you let it; see “fencing for power shawn clement” of youtube and in our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com ($9.95 per month stay as long as you like) you want to see the “lead hand release”, “trail hand release”, “release fine tuning”, “snap release polish” and then see “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” and “working the ball” videos to understand completely how to deliver shots into the picture with a lot more prediction power!

I came from a tennis/Table tennis background. started playing golf 10 years ago and stuck the ball well with a very strong grip, coaches have moved me to a natural grip and I have lost ball strike over the years. going to strengthen that grip back up and rip it again.
Hey Alex; I understand how the golf industry can have you brainwashed with the “must be like this” and the “be careful about that” and it’s much simpler than that: see “hit a honkin’ draw to hit straight shawn clement” and btw, you did find the underpowered video since you left a comment on it!😝😝 Everyone is different for how closed it should be; you simply deliver your task to target and see how it flies; then when you see a pattern, you make adjustments according to YOUR NEEDS
I see a lot of videos where they tell you right palm down coming into impact even with a strong grip, this is right palm up. You also have a lot of shaft lean at address and at impact. For those who don’t have as much shaft lean should they close it less?
Anytime you have any instruction that pertains to placing body parts to square the club at impact; RUN! You want to deliver an action THROUGH THE BALL and into the direction you want to start the ball with ease and velocity and full abandon where the swing’s release will naturally be anchored by the task of staying in that direction. If the grip is mot strong enough to begin with, then you won’t be able to deliver to the target and will need to release AT THE BALL to save the furniture. NOT the way to play golf fearlessly!
Sean, fantastic content as always. I have recently adopted a similar grip to Sav’s and have been bending the ball right to left at will... huge difference in improving the integrity of my ball flight and ball speed. Next suggested topic... Width in the backswing... Sav’s width is Michelle Wie like... truly impressive and something that is imperative in achieving the optimal swing radius. All of the best.
Just wanted to say thanks to you and your Dad about the strong grip. I used to play it when I first started playing and then learned a neutral grip for awhile because most people I played with or watched had a neutral one. Switched back to a strong grip to see and feel the difference. I’ve gained about 15-25 yards depending on the club. Getting through the ball feels very effortless now. Again thanks for all the videos covering it.
I noticed that both of you have bent lead arms at full backswing. This increases the swing arc and thus power and distance but most pros emphasize keeping that arm straight as an arrow for accuracy. Can you touch on this subject?
Hey Ralph! Just watch any good baseball hitter and you will see the way they wait for the pitch with arms bent and when they commit to the pitch and step into it, they toss the arms up and away and the arm-bat unit gets deployed and loaded. Sean, at 6:30 she addressed the ball with a slightly opened face. I thought you promoted a slightly closed face at address for square impact dynamically?
It is the whole relationship between the grip and club face; Square or open face with very strong grip=neutral grip with closed face. Your choice! See “weak grip vs strong grip shawn clement”
Fun video and great to see that Savannah is hitting so well, with that super strong grip 👍🙂 Power 💪⚡ Is it for most off us? When you are hitting baseball and tennis the ball is in front off you and in the air. Not in the ground and midle off your stance. When you are hitting with axe you are hitting at the tree and you don't have to rotate trough. Though, they are fun way to practice, but just making some observations 😉
Yes, I considered all those options and this is why the true test is when you release past the ball into the direction you want the ball to start, is the ball flying the way you want it to fly and curving the way it should? You always want to make your adjustments on grip based on that. 👍😀
Glad you are enjoying it! Savy is now #9 ranked in World Long Drive! She placed in the top 15 out of the top 60 women from around the world last October in Atlanta! If you want more information on how to maximise this for yourself, see our premium channel at wisdom in golf premium.com
i agree totally with this concept. The stronger grip does give you more power and control. a weak to neutral grip leaves the club to have face opened too much and force slices.
If you play cricket baseball most sports using a racket or bat it’s a strong grip. Many instructors teach a strong grip Now. I changed & im hitting the ball a lot further more consistently. I can fade draw the ball ive got more control as I have the strength in my grip. However you do need to get your hands ahead of the ball with the swing otherwise you will pull it. But a strong grip is better than neutral. Fred couples, Bubba Watson, DJ, Koepka all the top tour players past & present have a very strong grip. Great video. 👍
I play tennis my whole lift. This makes total sense, and I have seen the nail analogy used many times. I have always been underpowered and have always used a neutral grip. It feels so much more comfortable. For a time there I did try to strengthen to see 2 knuckles as they say to do. I will admit it never felt that comfortable. But when I see this explanation I know now I must incorporate this. I am also 10 finger with an eye to always have trail hand (right) club in fingers. Again tried Vardon and interlock be never felt a great connection to the club. Grip is CRUCIAL ugh. I want power and better contact. The best driver I could ever pull off was a power fade. They all fade or slide or it's a hard left. This is the way forward clearly..
Great video! I love the strong grip analogies and also like the shoulder tilt at setup. I've always struggled to get through the ball with the neutral grip and level shoulders at setup. I am very good at hitting at the ball but I stall when it comes to following through. I'm right-handed and leave a lot of shots left of the target, some days I think my hands and timing are good but I hate to rely on my hands and arms to make the corrections, this action leads to inconsistency. I am looking forward to getting out on the range and giving this a go. Thanks for posting...
I started taking lessons with Shawn 7-8 years ago now. I remember the moment when I knew he was a much better teacher than others. He is able to dynamically teach based on the student and not an “ideal”. I miss Shawn a lot. Happy to see him well. I still love his videos.
I just stumbled on this video... interestingly, I started doing this this morning at the range, prior to this video, and WOW! What you guys are saying is spot on! Also, a little supination at the start of the downswing was a game changer for me😜👍🏽👍🏽
So I definitely love the feel of the strong grip. I feel more control with throwing the club in the direction that I want to start the ball. If I'm playing a draw(I'm a right handed golfer) I do get some shots that just push or go straight to where I'm throwing the club. What would I be doing wrong?@Shawn Clement's Wisdom in Golf Lessons
Your goal now is HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU STAYED WITH YOUR SHOT? On our premium channel we have 2 series on this called “target confirmation series” and “stick your finish despite the ball series” Once your set up matched the picture, you need to simply be a witness to the whole thing and be able to confirm that there were no black outs and that you stayed with your momentum in that direction into a full release well past the ball.
@@golflessons I'm definitely going to check that out. Thanks for the help love what you and the crew are doing to help everyone out with this great sport!
When taking the club on the backswing, which arm or hand dominates? Are you taking it back equally with both, pushing with the leading arm, or pulling with the trailing arm? On the downswing, are you hitting with the trailing hand or pulling with the lead hand?
hey Mark! see our “knife the grip shawn clement” which is Snead-Palmer-Hogan-Nelson-Jack too to an extent…then see “best video on grip ever shawn clement” and “most important video on grip ever shawn clement”
I use a baseball 10 finger grip in golf and also when I use a sledge hammer or an ax. Why should you use an overlapping or interlocking grip with your golf clubs?
I’ll do a strong grip and still find myself open at impact, I’ve had to take practice swings and watch the face really slow and go even stronger and try it again or close the face a little. I’ve been misunderstanding just a little bit
Hi Shawn, I have a tennis background and I agree with your strong grip explanation. However Clay Ballard and lots of other teachers promote the neutral grip. Also some pro’s use the neutral and some even the weak grip. So there seems to be more than one truth. In tennis I change my grip according to the circumstances (service, slice, topspin etc...) . When I want to hit a fade in golf, I take a neutral grip and it works fine. However I never hear teaching pro’s about variation in grip in Golf. What is your opinion on that?
See Clay explain backhand grip in tennis! He completely messes things up in that regard! 😝😝. I used a screen shot of his tennis grip to demonstrate how it correlates exactly with the stronger grip in golf. Strong grip is not for all golfers but it is BEST for MOST GOLFERS.
Shawn, I enjoyed the video, and it seems to make sense. I've been told to strengthen my grip for years to gain distance, but when I do, I pull/hook all my shots 45 degrees to the left. Because of this, I've always had a weak grip with my left thumb (I'm right handed) on top of the shaft. If you have any thoughts, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
You simply need to confirm that you have access THROUGH THE BALL and can confirm that you delivered into the flight plan; if you release AT THE BALL, you will definitely hook! Look at DJ with a super closed face hitting power fades; he has mega lag because of it as well as others like Joaquin Niemann. See “through the ball vs at the ball shawn clement” and you will eventually definitely want to get with our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com as the whole philosophy is about dynamic action tasks to flight plans. A whole different world!
I'm a beginner, but Always felt strong and powerful with a strong right hand grip. I have a Forward press with my shaft at adress to imitate the impact position, is that a Good thing to do?
Great video Shawn. I’ve been trying to use a neutral grip (De La Torre), but I went to the range after watching this and I get so much more compression with this grip. Like others, the challenge for me is to keep the ball from starting the ball too far left. Do I need to train my eye to see the blade more open at address? Keep up the great work!
I'm a right handed golfer but I play cricket left handed (batsman). Strong grip feels natural to me. Only downside I find, for whatever reason, I sometimes struggle to divot with it.
Can you talk about the shoulders when using a strong grip? I seem to have a tendency to get my left shoulder high and with tension in my arms. Is that natural? I am a right handed golfer. Thx
@@finnobrien7604 Cool. Ive tried that but the problem is, as soon as I release the tension my hand wants to go to a weak or neutral position and the club face looks like it is pointing at my left toe. Then I have to cup my left wrist more, push my hands forward more, etc to make it look like the clubface is pointing at my target line. Lol.
Hey Shawn, So just for clarity, would the back of the hand still be facing the target at impact or, pretty much at the same position at address, sort of skyward? Let me know. Ken Washington, D.C.
Pay no mind to that Ken! The conscious mind can only work at 40 bits of info per second; while the CNS works at 40 Million bits per second! What you need is a task to deliver the shots and the flight plan of the ball, high or low, fade or draw determines wrist angles; not the other way around. See “best lesson I ever got from Moe Norman shawn clement” and enjoy the practice!
Just finding your videos so need to try this. Like they she is left like me most are all right. Anyways I think baseball bat, and when swinging bat her hand looked like big knuckle in line with little knuckle. We were taught in high level to line little knuckles on both hands to get more whip of bat. Would that work in golf for making the ball go further and club to come around? Just idea
Hey James! PGA tour AVERAGE Launch angle with a 7 iron is 16.3 degrees. The static loft of the 7 iron is between 27 and 34 degrees depending on the model and manufacturer. Irons are designed to be de-lofted. That is just part of the story. As you deliver THROUGH THE BALL, a good swing creates a kinetic chain that created a lag where the hands come through first and this OPENS THE CLUB FACE. See “through the ball vs at the ball shawn clement wisdom” and “when your grip is too weak or too strong shawn clement wisdom” for starters.
@@golflessons Thanks Shawn I'm working with yah now makes perfect sense as you explained it. Love the compression and feel, trying to work in a fade now :-).
I am 100 % convinced that a strong grip such as Savys is logically and anatomically superior to let's say a standard V's to the right ear grip. My only problem with a grip that strong is the left rough. I find it very difficult to start the ball far enough right to avoid over drawing. I understand that ball fight is a result of club face angle relative to swing path . The things that can have an impact on ball flight are the amount of body rotation, ball position and swing path. So I guess my question is if Savy started shall we say over drawing what would you consider recommending to fix that ? I have tried that strong grip several times but could never achieve accuracy. Thank yinz again for another great video.

Sean, tour pros don't have this strong grip (at least as far as I can tell) are you saying this would be more beneficial to us mere mortals to gain more distance? Thanks love your videos.
Have naturally adopted a strong grip from playing cricket. My main shot miss seems to be an over draw and my natural shot shape alternates between a powerfade and a power draw. Is this a common pattern that you see with strong grippers, and what could I potentially work on? I have seriously contemplated changing my grip, but don't want to spend 3-4 months of not being able to hit it at all as a social golfer. Thanks :)
Strong grip is a huge bonus in our book because it allows you to swing THROUGH THE BALL instead of releasing At the ball to square the club up! See “weak grip vs strong grip shawn clement golf wrx” and see “through the ball vs at the ball shawn clement”
Awesome video Shawn. How do we set the club in our hands to start with this strong grip. Aim the face left for me(right hand golfer) and then forward press with the strong grip so it aims at our intermediate target. Do you have a specific video you can reference for this? Thanks in advance and great content!!!
Question I notice a little orange tee in front of the ball, does is that used as a aim point? Can you talk more about the window/picture you reference to swing into.
I tried to play with a strong and it made me have a terrible hook so I went back to a weaker grip but sometimes still have the ball going left. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
Almost what some dude said; we don’t consider a proper hinge on the anatomical snuff boxes a “cupped” position; cupped is a collapsed wrist that would also have the right wrist bowed...see “loaded arms shawn clement” and an oldie but real goodie called “grip and wrist hinge shawn clement”

Oh the Choir is singing on this one Barry! Awesome post!! 😀👍🎶👌💪
So you ground the club 45 degrees closed and take a grip with your lead hand facing the target? So back of your lead hand square to target but club face 45 degrees closed at address? Did I get that right?
@@mbda1 I’m also trying to figure out if what you described is correct...

I didn't start hitting bombs until I went strong with my grip. Now I can turn my body through the ball with everything I have and I don't have to worry about timing the roll or flip of my hands. When I get it working right, it's the most beautiful feeling I've had playing golf.
Thanks!
Thanks Richard!! ❤️👍😀
Pumping up that volume Jason!! Awesome comment man; thank you for taking the time to post!! 💪🤛👌👍😀
Fantastico Raul!! Gracias for the terrific comment and feedback! Go get them! 💪😀👍
The saddest part is that i went from perfect shaft lean to almost fliiping and I spend the last 6 moths trying to have the lean back and feel like i could never swing as hard as i did before
Great video! I’m glad she’s left handed. Helps me out a lot!!!
found your site yesterday, went to the driving range today and NAILED IT.
Can you hear the choir singing? Yeah man! Great comment! 😀👍 THANK YOU for posting! 👌
Great video and explanation so strong grip and swing through the ball as if I were hammering a nail into lower part of a doorframe
Boy, this speaks to me big time. Adios neutral grip! Strong grip (feels slightly heavier in my hands), ball slightly back of center and throw it to the target. That journey starts today. Thank you! 👍🏽
Boom! You keep us posted Dutch! 😀👍👌💪
I have tried.... excellent results...lot of improvement... thanks very much 🙂
Most welcome 😊

All the teachers I’ve been watching say amateurs should use neutral grip. I took a few lessons 15 years ago the teacher told me to do exactly what you say. Close club face at address and the take your grip. I stopped doing, but tried today at range and it much more solid!!!! I’m going back to it!!!
Gamechanger! It made me also re-evaluate my "bowed left wrist" and I played my best round in a long time the first time out on the course. Works with every club. This is going to be fun!

You are welcome! And welcome to the smash club!! Where compression exists! 😀👍🤛💪

It's all so natural... until first 'Pro' lesson. Glad you are setting things straight again :)
Finally!!! It took me about a week to understand the strong grip/club face relationship. It clicked when I gripped it and lifted the club out in front me to see the closed face, but when put back to the ground it's a square face. I was working from a "best practice" neutral grip. Will keep working on it. Thanks for the great training videos!

Hi Shawn, love the video. How would this concept apply to the short game? Thanks from sunny Wales. 🏴🏴🏴
Yes, works very well with short game but you want a more open face so the leading edge does jot catch!
Cheers!!

I came from a tennis/Table tennis background. started playing golf 10 years ago and stuck the ball well with a very strong grip, coaches have moved me to a natural grip and I have lost ball strike over the years. going to strengthen that grip back up and rip it again.
Yeah man!! You get in there and mix it up! 😀👍🤛
I didn't know she was your daughter. Great stuff. 👍
Why do I get the feeling you made this video for me haha.
Great video and makes perfect sense.
So idk if I missed it in the video, but if we're using a strong grip, and have a strong grip at address, should the face be square at address?
Hey Alex; I understand how the golf industry can have you brainwashed with the “must be like this” and the “be careful about that” and it’s much simpler than that: see “hit a honkin’ draw to hit straight shawn clement” and btw, you did find the underpowered video since you left a comment on it!😝😝
Everyone is different for how closed it should be; you simply deliver your task to target and see how it flies; then when you see a pattern, you make adjustments according to YOUR NEEDS
Cool suggestion! Will put it on the list!! Thanks so much!
WE ARE BUILT FOR THIS AND SHOULD NEVER NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT ONCE WE GET RID OF THE BODY PART THINKING MENTALITY. In our premium channel, at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com you will see “kinetic chain” and “kinetic chain facilitation series” and if you are not familiar with our teachings, start with “the senior series” which is a nice general over view of what we do. Unlock your athlete within! 👍🫶👌💪😀
@@golflessons 👍 That is really good way to learn how your swing works.

i agree totally with this concept. The stronger grip does give you more power and control. a weak to neutral grip leaves the club to have face opened too much and force slices.

If you play cricket baseball most sports using a racket or bat it’s a strong grip. Many instructors teach a strong grip
Now. 👍
So do you grip the clubface face down to create a natural Grip, than positon the clubface open to create a strong grip?

Subb earned btw.
That's the one thing for strong grip, ball just got over hook sometimes lol
I started taking lessons with Shawn 7-8 years ago now. I remember the moment when I knew he was a much better teacher than others. He is able to dynamically teach based on the student and not an “ideal”. I miss Shawn a lot. Happy to see him well. I still love his videos.

I just stumbled on this video... interestingly, I started doing this this morning at the range, prior to this video, and WOW! What you guys are saying is spot on! Also, a little supination at the start of the downswing was a game changer for me😜👍🏽👍🏽
Does it seem at 6:24 her face at address is really open? And does it also seem like she plays the ball right off her back foot?

Does she setup with the face square but take a strong grip ? Or do what Shawn said and close the face take normal grip then square face
So that was a lot of talking! So is it strong, strong on both hands and gripping it tight or no?
STRONG-STRONG AND SECURE GRIP!👍👌
OK thanks a lot Shawn, I appreciate it!
Love the theory and looks like it really works - I'm trying this next time down the range for sure!

I use a baseball 10 finger grip in golf and also when I use a sledge hammer or an ax. Why should you use an overlapping or interlocking grip with your golf clubs?
10 finger is absolutely great! Every bit as viable as interlock or overlap...

This is crazy but it works like I never would have believed. I finally know exactly where the ball is going.
Does she use the same grip for chipping, pitching (short shots) or a more neutral grip?
Yes, but club face is more open on chips and bunker and flops; it is a “grip-club” relationship and not just “grip”.

Great video Shawn. I’ve been trying to use a neutral grip (De La Torre), but I went to the range after watching this and I get so much more compression with this grip. Ken
Washington, D.C.
My instructor taught me that with the grid thanks great work y’all
Just finding your videos so need to try this. Just idea
Shawn does the club face not de loft with a strong grip thus going further ?

Another great video and she is a sweetheart. Great swing.
If the shot calls for a right to left approach, how do you grip the club for a fade?
Same! Different path and ball position!
EXCELLENT CONTENT, MY GRIP MY MAJOR AREA OF FRUSTRATION
Awesome video Shawn. How do we set the club in our hands to start with this strong grip. Aim the face left for me(right hand golfer) and then forward press with the strong grip so it aims at our intermediate target. Do you have a specific video you can reference for this? Thanks in advance and great content!!!
See “weak grip vs strong grip shawn clement golf wrx”. Then see “Through the ball vs at the ball shawn clement”
Do Canadians just carry an Ax everywhere they go?
You bet! You never know! 😝😝
Question I notice a little orange tee in front of the ball, does is that used as a aim point? Can you talk more about the window/picture you reference to swing into.
See: “why you can’t align properly shawn clement golf wrx” and “throw the club straight shawn clement”
@@golflessons thank you I now understand
Hi shawn when setup up on the golf ball the club face is open or square. When I square it towards my target it will go left
