  • In order to have the best yard, you need to understand the differences in the grass types. I break down the good and bad of each cool season grass. This will start to give you a better idea of what grass will be best for your yard.
In part two, I will go over actual grass seed bags. They can be very confusing, so I want to break it down in a simple way. Then you can go to the store and shop confidently for the best grass for your yard #lawn #grass

I’m located in the Dallas Ft Worth transition zone and have planted RTF last fall because of a large oak tree which spans the backyard so I needed something shade tolerant. Up until this heat wave the yard was plush. Because of the high heat for several weeks now (easily 95+) it seems to be going dormant. It’s getting 3/4” of water twice a week and as of a week or two ago I’m giving the lawn occasional quick cooling hand watering each afternoon on the hot spots. Once the weather starts to cool off I plan on verticutting and over seeding with more RTF, compost/sand to level. Am I on the right track?

Thanks for watching! Yeah, it definitely sounds like you are doing great. It will be very difficult to keep any cool season grass looking it's best with those sustained temps. I will sometimes add an additional day of water or two if I see I sustained temps like that. It's just about trying to survive at that point. That being said, it sounds like you are doing an excellent job with it all!!
