💯 percent agree w/ everything you stated. I ordered my BRZ exactly how I wanted it and took delivery w/ 3 months. This after I visited 3 Toyota lots and experienced cocky salesmen and cars advertised that weren’t even on the lot. I love my BRZ.
Between the rough roads and dealership experience I purchased the BRZ. No markups and no pressure at Subaru. The car is amazing especially after exhaust & brake pads. I’ll definitely buy another if anything happens to her. Subaru treated me so good I got my wife a Forester Sport.
I actually prefer the BRZ overall because it's a more comfortable daily driver...better ride and slightly less aggressive tuning. I also HATE the way Toyota sells vehicles...less choice, more bullsh*t accessory add-ons, dealer markups, etc, so I'm not inclined to support Toyota at all. Their dealership experience is infuriatingly bad. I also find the rarity of the BRZ to be more appealing. I've owned am Impreza, WRX and an Outback, and the Subaru buying experience is a dream compared to Toyota. I would choose the BRZ over the 86, no contest.
Great video I think you broke all of this down really well, from what I can tell the GR86 is the better looking and maybe even slightly better drivers car, but the buying experience and dealership experience overall is better with Subaru.
If suspension is your priority, I’d say depends on how well kept the roads in your area. Power delivery depends on preference. GR bit more exciting off the line the BRZ gives extra punch @ 5k+ rpm. Dealership experience no pressure no BS from Subaru. Couldn’t say that about Toyota dealer.
I absolutely agree with that point about waiting. I got an allocation for a BRZ a couple months ago and it's scheduled to come in a few weeks. I can wait a few months for these cars but any more of that it feels a little bit of a waste of time
Was looking at Si and Type R, but had horrible (utterly incompetent) experiences at every Honda dealership. Insane markups, goofy sales pitches and tactics. I have no idea how people tolerate buying from Honda... and I write that as a position holder in their stock, lol. Moved on to look at GR Corolla and GR 86. Not as bad as Honda, but the dealership didn't care, wouldn't give any quote, or path to get either other than wait 6+ months to a year, and they might call. Went to Subaru, walked out with WRX and literally had the best (no bs, no markups) experience. Ordered a BRZ a few months back from the same place, and waiting on delivery in a couple weeks exactly the way I wanted (bone stock). Just get a BRZ :-).
Man I live right by you. Love it here is Utah. Thanks for the vid and things to consider. Be upgrading from my frs in 2024. I have had a RX8 R3 as well. Loved that ride almost as much as my frs.
thank you for saying eight six. it irks me when all car reviewers say eighty six. currently waiting one year for an 86 in Canada. should have ordered a brz. meanwhile, my wrx is due to arrive in a month. Subaru dealer experience was so much better.
Thanks for giving a real world experience share. The so called big shot reviewers say, don't care what you face but this is a pure car review minus your real buying experience.
Not a lot of options especially with waiting times, but found a grey GTS in manual at a local Toyota that was a cancellation and has ceramic finish so I settled for it and get it Monday. Drove both but the playfulness of the 86 made me smile even though the demo was an auto
"IF" Everything goes well; I will be ordering a 2024 BRZ Limited in Silver with an Automatic Transmission "Tomorrow". 🤞🤞🍀🍀. It's a dealership and salesman, that I bought a 2018 Crosstrek from. 🤞🤞🍀🍀😎 Another benefit of getting a BRZ over a GR86; is that the motor is a Subaru! Should you need to have engine repair done; I would choose a Subaru mechanic on a Subaru Motor over a Toyota Mechanic on a Subaru Motor.
I’ve ordered two gr86s and took possession of them. First one was a base that I bought to flip and I made a few grand. The second was a halo white manual premium. I just got it a few weeks ago. Both cars I had within my possession within 4 months of ordering and both at msrp. Used two different dealerships in Ohio, both happened to be great, especially the last one. They had a red one coming in and I didn’t want red, they got it swapped with what I wanted and that was halo white, it came with a bunch of accessories I didn’t want. They actually got them removed for me. Who the heck is paying 1300+ for a GR exhaust is beyond me. Anyways I had nothing but great luck. I will say Toyota lots have bs interest rates but that’s the only downfall I can say.
Toyota is very stingy with what they release. I owned a Corolla Hatch, and was dying to get a GR Corolla , and no dealers had any updates about them. When I finally found the GR it was because I was going in for an oil change. They’re not even release other parts from the Circuit Edition to Core owners.
I worked for Toyota that issue with parts is more on the dealer not really Toyota people special order cars all the time but the wait time and the cost for the dealership they just don't like doing it
@@Gonin60 Yeah the parts that people want are the configuration dealerships just don't like to do it. Some stuff can added on after and the dealership but they are going to try to charge you. When FRS first came out most people wanted them custom and we did them
Some great advice, Austin. I'm still surprised by how many manufacturers still don't let you order a car to your specs. This seems to be more prevalent with the Asian car brands, and we personally ran into this both when we got our Honda Ridgeline, as well as when I was thinking about getting a GR86. While I could have easily gone down and ordered a BRZ exactly how I wanted it, I just preferred the Toyota in all aspects (looks, tuning, and suspension). It's still baffling that many automakers still have these outdated means of ordering cars.
Toyota and Honda treated me like a kid and tried to put me in a cheap car ,but Subaru treated me with respect as a first time buyer .
Glad to hear Subaru treated you well!
@@Gonin60 lol
I like the fact you'll see 10 GR86's to 1 BRZ. Got my Crystal White BRZ manual and love it. Plus got it at msrp.👍

Your story sounds so similar to mine! Smart on Subaru!
Yep, just buy a BRZ, plus the rides a little better and once you start modding the front end, it looks way better than the GR 86
Fair point!
Subaru is faster and lighter, Subaru has invested more in its car

Ass hats like you is what create shortages for genuine buyers like me
The difference is throttle tuning, and top speed BRZ 140, 86 145. However after a tune none of that matters. 🤷♂️
Thanks
What's the source of your claimed 145 mph top speed for 86? Car and Driver estimated 135 but i saw a couple videos where it hit an indicated 142.
