Your baseball fact of the day: The infield fly rule is an automatic out. It keeps the infielders from dropping it on purpose and getting a forced out or double play.
13:05 short answer of Infield Fly: If there are less than two outs and you have runners on first and second (third either yes/no), if it's a pop-up that'd be considered an easy catch infield, it's called. It's called by the umpires raising their arms directly up and pointing to make it easily noticeable. The point of it is to make an automatic single out so that there isn't a cheap/easy way to make a double or triple play if the the infielder lets it drop, keeping the players at their bases when they otherwise should have run.
Jesus the nostalgia overload... I played this game religiously as a child. Ken Griffey Jr. was my favorite baseball player growing up. Literally anytime I think of this game I can remember what the cartridge even smelled like before putting into the snes..

The infield fly rule is in place to prevent the defense from getting a free double play when there are runners on first and second. By intentionally letting the ball hit the ground, they could just throw the ball to 3rd and then 2nd to get a double play, since the runners need tag up on popups.
@@barethor5869When the batter hits a flyball, aka hits the ball up in the air where it can be caught by can infielder (the players standing on the dirt or the bases), the infield fly rule is called for the reasons the guy above stated
@@enflamedhuevos That still doesn't explain what the infield fly rule is. I understand that something happens when there is a flyball in the infield and knew those terms before hand, but I don't know what that something is.
@@barethor5869 Ah I see. Essentially, if there is a runner on first base, and the batter hits a flyball and it is caught, only the batter would be out. If the defense were allowed to let it drop, the runner on first would be forced to run to second base, because there can’t be two runners on the same base. This would mean that once the ball drop, the fielder can throw to second, resulting in one out, and then throw to first, resulting in a second out. With the infield fly rule, the play is called dead once a fielder is under the ball, meaning only one out can be gotten on the play, and the runner on first is still safe.

Regarding the infield fly rule, the point of it is so the defense can't intentionally drop a routine/easy fly ball to get a double play. If there's less than 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd or bases loaded, any routine fly ball on the infield (deemed as "reasonable effort" based on the skill level of the players) is signaled as an infield fly by the umpires and the batter is out. The runners can advance at their own risk (like if they drop the catch or throw it away for any reason). But it is waved off for a foul ball, or if it isn't hit high enough to be routine, and the umpires can call it after the play instead if we somehow miss it. I doubt most people watching this care about the rules explanation, but since I work as an umpire, I figured to help answer that.

Rule check for Dan: a hit batsman is indeed a strike if the batter swings. Also, the infield fly rule: If there are runners on first and second and fewer than 2 outs, an infield fly results in the batter automatically being out. This prevents the fielder from dropping the pop-up on purpose to get an easy double play.

A walk off error is the only way this could have ended.
lol I called it a "single" but you're right, it was an error (and I phrased it almost *exactly* the same way without seeing your comment first).
Sports! I do really enjoy watching yall play the sports games, and the comfort of knowing I'm not the only one confused as hell by their control schemes. There's several of these I could watch yall do a few more of each.
24:08 I am shocked and chagrinned: Arin missed an absolute lay-up. "Gonna Fields... deez nuts"!
This has instantly become one of my favorite episodes, please play more baseball titles! Super Baseball 2020 is an old favorite of mine because it's an absolutely bonkers take on the game, I think the boys would love it.
Yo, I had that on the Genesis as a kid. Found it at a flea market for like $3. I loved the all-robot team.
This game had one of THE WORST hit interface ever concieved.
Ken Griffey Jr's shoes are even more poorly made
Pretty much all games had terrible ui from this era. Today's games have had 30 years to improve on every aspect, yet the only way they're "better" than N64, SNES, or NES era, is that they're prettier looking. Omg you can see the sweat on the face... buuuuut everything else is still trash.
The Grumps have played so many sports games over the years. I really enjoy the variety. Anyone know if they've ever played a golf game? I feel like they should play a golf game. Something tells me they'd like a golf game.
There’s a few golf games they’ve played, especially Kirby’s Dream Course which is still technically golf
Clap, clap, clap
One with Kirby or something would be amazing 😉
Honestly, a realistic golf game could be chill & they could talk over it pretty easily.
Not to my knowledge. I think they did play baseball golf once. I think it was called... cricket?
😂This Is Just "Lose A Turn" With a Baseball.
As someone who plays baseball, this made me smile lol
As someone who has never played baseball, but a fan of The Sandlot, this made me smile lol
Really enjoying the recebt trend of using more old school thumbnails with the orange and grump heads
Dan: Do we need to explain the rules?
Arin: No people get it
All europian be like 😐
Arin- somebody's happy
Dan- somebody's DEAD
🤣🤣
I love it when they play terrible incomprehensible sports games. This was a blast from the past!
I think Ken Griffey Jr. did the music with either David Wise or Robin Beanland I can't remember
0:01 where the episode starts.
@Sig I gotcu
Did you point?!
“Can something f*cking happen!?” How I feel EVERY SINGLE TIME I WATCH BASEBALL. For my birthday we went to at louis to watch a Cardinals game (my families favorite team although I’m not a fan of sports at all) my gift was more the trip and a museum we went to before the game. I was on my phone the entire time although my family loved it including my nana which made me extremely happy.
I'm fairly sure dan could throw the ball faster in real life.
Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball, gentlemen. Bunches of silly characters that you'd love to riff off of. The game play is so addictive, and all the fields have their own set of specific rules and obstacles.
That was the most exciting game of baseball I have ever seen. Ken Griffey Jr is smiling on these boys from heaven
