Nothing sweeter than first seeing sky and a fabulous sun peeking over a ridge hiking upwards. Nice cairn (pile of rocks) at the Ziler trail junction. Impressed by your information on the names of ridges & mountains with almost every vista on all your videos! Always a thank you! for your constant effort in sharing your explores...
Yeah when you start to see some sky through the trees, you know you're getting close to the top. Glad you enjoyed this and many of my videos, as always thanks so much for your support, my friend!
We walked the first mile of the trail with our dog,in 85 degrees. It felt steep! Glad to watch your video and find out it wasn’t just us. Nice segment.
LOL it was not just you...the mountain is steep, and it only gets steeper the higher up you go. Thanks so much for checking out my video, I really appreciate it!
When I was a much younger man, I hiked every trail in Cacapon (Ka Kay Pon) over my numerous visits and vacations there. Ziller Loop is awesome in the winter.
It is a really nice park and some great trails and scenery there. I agree it would definitely be much better in the winter. I was only in the area for a limited time for work so sadly I could not choose my dates. Perhaps another a visit in the future. Thanks for checking out my video!
@@SmellNRoses If the opportunity should ever present itself. Rent one of the cabins on one of the loops for a week. Cabin #7 is a nice cozy 2 person great room type cabin. Doing this you can hike a trail or two each day. I started with the harder trails first and finished the week out with the easier ones. I was able to do almost all of the trail in one week. There are also numerous planned hikes with the park naturalist as well as evening / night hikes exploring the flora and fauna as well as wildlife in the park. The lakes are stocked with bass and trout if you like to fish. Hope you make it back sooner rather than later.
That was a very steep climb and descend. Sometimes it's not all about the views. With the trees covered with leaves makes it more peaceful and the air smells fresher. You still got some good views of the other mountains.
uptrail71 I agree it was a beautiful hike even with the lack of overlooks. It would have basically been the same view anyway as the one really clear vista, because the whole hike was up and back down the same slope. It was quite a workout for sure. Thanks so much for watching, my friend.
That is a beautiful state park and a really nice sunset to boot! Looked like you had some great weather for the hike too and looked like you had the entire park to yourself!
Thanks, man. It was a nice hike. The weather was perfect for hiking. I was out there late in the evening on a weeknight so the park was nearly empty. There were a few people fishing at the reservoir when I first arrived, otherwise I did not see another soul. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, man. This video was shot back at the beginning of May, by then everything is greened out nicely except for the tops of the highest mountains of the area. Thanks so much for watching, my friend!
Steep! you could really see it in some parts otf the video. nice views and i love the green. When it got dark we could see the green underbrush too so nice
It definitely was pretty steep. The forest had greened out pretty nicely. This was shot back at the beginning of May, so there were still some trees without leaves on the highest mountaintops but for the most part everything was fully leafed out by then and very green since we have had a pretty good amount of rain this spring. Thanks so much for watching, my friend!
Beautiful place. You get to visit all this cool places. I love mountains and we don't have them here. Will definitely have to head up there at some point and explore the area.
Thanks, my friend. You have some beautiful spots down in your area as well, but yeah I don't think I could live without my mountains. Come on up sometime, you'd love it up here.
Nice video and nice hike! Just found your channel and I enjoy seeing some of the Local to me trails! This is a small state park and it is pronounced "ca cay pon" the lake is popular by locals in the summer for swimming and picnics, there is a pretty waterfall heading up the road towards the swimming area!
Thank you so much for checking out my video. I appreciate it. Yes I knew the correct pronunciation but for some reason my southern Virginia accent just wouldn't allow me to say it correctly LOL! It's a beautiful park and I enjoyed several visits there. The Mountain Overlook is really nice too. Sadly I missed the waterfall, will have to see that if I ever make back out there.
Pushed your timing with it getting dark. Hope you pack a light for those hikes where you want to linger a bit longer then the sun does. Great place to build those calves.
I'm often out 4 or 5 times a week after work, and I usually don't even get to the trailhead until after sunset. I always carry a headlamp and a small flashlight on every adventure regardless of length or time of day, but when I know its going to get dark on me then I carry some backups as well. This hike was certainly a workout in the steep terrain. Thanks so much for watching, my friend.
TDS supervivencia era una de las vistas buenas hacia el este. La caminata no tenia muchas vistas sin embargo era interesante. Gracias por tu comentario! Un saludazo!
Thanks, man. I almost didn't share this video because it wasn't one of the most spectacular ones, but it was a great hike and some beautiful woods. What it lacked in vistas was more than made up for by the incredible peacefulness of the place. The steep terrain definitely made for a workout. Thanks for watching, my friend!
It does look peaceful. Was this hike on a weekday? It definitely looked steep. I would have been breathing so hard I could not even talk for a video. LOL! Thank goodness for switchbacks. Love the night sounds of the wilderness. Good stuff. Some times a good walk in the woods is exactly what we need. Peaceful and stress free! Thanks for pointing out the direction of your hike at the end of the video. I appreciate you sharing.......this hike burned more calories than any gym possibly could! Take care and I trust you and your family are well. May you be well every year!
This was a great loop hike. Either direction was extremely steep, but I opted to climb up via the longer climb but slightly lower grade, the other direction (the way I went down) was a shorter distance but literally straight up the mountain with very short switchbacks. It's hard to say which way is "better" but its a workout regardless. The mountain does not offer a lot of vistas, but more than makes up for lack of views with a beautiful forest and solitude. Thanks for watching, man!
Did you look for an opening in the canopy, to the west, when you were up on the ridge? I hope that it isnt cac-a-pon mtn, bc Ive been pronouncing it ca-kay-pun for too many yrs. Lol!
Hey man, sorry for not replying sooner, for some reason I just saw your comment. You could easily get some awesome views to the west in the winter but I only got a few glimpses between the trees. I could appreciate it with my eyes but I didn't even attempt to take a photo or video. If you ever visit this state park, do it in the winter, or at least before the leaves come out fully. I think your pronunciation is correct. I was trying to say it like that but for some reason I never got it to come out right LOL! Southern Virginia accent combined with the fact that I speak Spanish more than English most days and well its a wonder I can even talk in a way that people can understand haha!!!
No problem man. I have been uploading and watching vids like crazy since we got back because we didnt use very many GB in May and it all rolled over. Use it or lose it this cycle. And I wish I had a second language, always thought that was cool that you can speak two languages.
I meant to comment earlier that I could see you were on a spree. Any closer to getting caught up? I still got 3 vids waiting myself, but everything was shot before the end of May. I'm itching to get back out. I made a visit to Pilpott with my boy a few weeks ago, he rode his bike some but we didnt hike any. I did a HUGE one mile hike at Mayo River the other day, checking out my favorite spot (Fall Creek Falls) but I didnt shoot any vid. I've been enjoying your recent vids, some cool stuff man.
Thanks for watching, my friend. It was a great hike despite not having a lot of vistas, its a beautiful forest and incredibly peaceful. The upper reservoir has a big parking lot, would easily fit a dozen vehicles if not more. There is also a huge parking lot behind the resort building that is not far away, just down the hill from the reservoir.
Well, I don't know IF I want to Camp or Fish. That place is ALL Beautiful, I even seen the 2 trees for my Hammock to hang, Decision's, Decision's.....????
This is a really nice park to check out, both of my visits exceeded expectations. Some tough terrain getting up the mountain but incredibly peaceful woods up there. Thanks for watching, my friend!
James Smith, The Quiet Hiker Thanks for watching, my friend. This is a pretty nice park if you are in the area or passing through, probably not worth a long drive on its own though.
Thanks for checking out my video. I always try to learn the local pronunciations of names but in this case I wasn’t able to do so. I’m not from that area. No offense was intended.

Another cool place, Thanks for taking us on your workout.
It was definitely a good workout, I was huffing and puffing making my way up. Thanks for watching!

nice hike SNR the hike down looked pretty step i beat it would be slick in the rain thanks for sharing your
Thanks, man. Yeah it was super steep going up and especially down...it would be a challenge in the rain. Thanks for watching!

Another gorgeous hike and video! We really love the spots you head out to, very beautiful! Thanks for bringing us with, had a good time!
Thanks! I appreciate you coming along. Glad you enjoy the adventures. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful hike , tough hike i bet it would be really nice in the winter !
atb john
It was a tough climb but a beautiful and peaceful forest to see with a few vistas, it would be awesome in the winter. Thanks for watching, man!

Steep little climb but the views are beautiful! TFS

very nice hiking and beautiful view.
Thank you! Thanks so much for watching!
Oof, lots of climbing but worth it! I think you're right, a winter hike would have tons of views.
Thanks for watching, man! Yeah this climb is steep but relatively short. Views are worthwhile but the forest is really beautiful up there.
Pushed your timing with it getting dark. Hope you pack a light for those hikes where you want to linger a bit longer then the sun does. Great place to build those calves.

2:15 vista fabulosa!

I definitely think you accomplished your mission of burning calories for sure. Nice little hike man.

I am only 6 behind now. 3 short vids and 3 fishing videos. So to me I'm caught up because I'm on the same month video wise that it is in reality. Lol!
Looks like a perfect end of day hike. How good is the parking at the reservoir?

I've been to most of WV's state parks, but that's one I've never visited.
James Smith, The Quiet Hiker Thanks for watching, my friend. This is a pretty nice park if you are in the area or passing through, probably not worth a long drive on its own though.
You pronounced the park name incorrectly
Great park, beautiful area, but I’m not from the area so f course I may pronounce it wrong. No biggie.
Nice video but you are butchering the name of the park. It is pronounced ka (a sound like end a at end of comma) - kay (long a sound) - pen.
Thanks for checking out my video. I always try to learn the local pronunciations of names but in this case I wasn’t able to do so. I’m not from that area. No offense was intended.
