Not entirely correct. When you're selling high price high volume products. You're talking significant amounts of money in sales before you even need to consider repeat customers. If you do some basic assumptions, using current EV battery costs. Right now, you're looking at about $125/kWh for an EV battery. Presuming you converted 300 million current ICE owners to EV ownership, and say battery size follows current EVs of around 70kWh. You're looking at $2.625 trillion in battery value. This is before you even consider price higher battery prices, larger battery quantity for the likes of public transport and other minor aspects. This change alone would convert a significant amount of the populous to EV vehicle use, especially considering a major concern has always been "what if I go on a road trip". If this transferred to a 1000km passenger vehicle range you're covering vast distances with minimal charge times. Melbourne to Brisbane is about 1800kms, so you're doing that entire trip with one recharge and and about 40 minutes worth of stops. You could travel from New York to Los Angeles which is around 4500kms with just a few hours in recharge stops. Major changes to consumer circumstances like this potential offering far outweigh the low cost item production of "sell lots for cheap". This is a potential trillion dollar industry change that has numerous advantages outside of transportation. Business power backups, home solar systems, electric vehicles for mining. If a single manufacture can provide an outcome to everyone... you only need the initial sale.
