I've been lucky enough to see them live. Andy Latimer puts his heart and soul into playing, and as you can tell, a very romantic and sensitive heart it is too !
Hahaaaa, I've seen them live four times (Rain Dances x 2, Nude, Breathless) . I might be an old fogey but I'm also lucky enough to have been around at the time.
I discovered Camel in the early 70s, 🥰 and saw them live finally at the Stationary Traveller tour in my hometown Southport UK Andy Latimer is a God to me...enjoy, put West Berlin on your reaction list please, Andy Latimer can play EVERY instrument in the orchestra to perfection 😳 he was classically trained....
Andy Latimer does this from the sixties to until now!!The man knows no end to his career..Surrounds him with younger musicians and it stills rocks fine!
"Vopos" also on this album (Stationary Traveller") = one of my favorite Camel ... ANYthing.... So vividly touching taking you there... in the storyteller's mind-space-emotion-seeing. Cool mesmerizings..
"Vopos" has some pretty intense instrumental work, and some great vocals too. Great song. I love it! _"Through sleepy eyes you saw the scene, and felt as if a dream ... had come to life."_
Yep, there's a lot of folk who never heard of Camel. But they were up there with Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc with a massive following. I suppose they just never chased media attention. Andy Latimer formed his own record company (Camel Productions) and the music was enough to draw the fanbase in. They were certainly doing well enough that PR wasn't needed and they never needed to be in a spotlight. Andy Latimer was free to concentrate on what he loved doing i.e. making music.
Nobody puts so much emotion into the guitar as Andy. You should check out ICE which is my fav guitar instrumental of all time and Camel's most well known.
In the later years of the group, Camel is mainly Andy Latimer, and Andy had a pretty serious bout with cancer in the late 2000's (IIRC). This might be the best live version of _"Stationary Traveller"_ (I couldn't say for sure), but the best live-concert of theirs is (IMO) _"Live at the Royal Albert Hall"_ in 2018. This was their return to Royal Albert Hall for the first time in something like 30 years. Great concert, great quality sound and video, and you can tell that Andy and the band are absolutely loving it. But getting back to _"Stationary Traveller",_ I love the album that this song comes from (which is also named _"Stationary Traveller")._
Don't usually go for instrumentals (probably why I've never checked out their Snow Goose album, no excuse for not checking out anything else by 'em before!) but loved this - and can certainly hear the influence they had on Marillion (my favourite band as it happens), and Steve Rothery (My favourite guitarist, etc...) in particular
Curious you name Marillion. Apparently, while they were still trying to form the band, they tried camel's drummer, Andy Ward. But, sadly, it couldn't happen, because Andy was in full of shit
The slow stuff Andy does, especially with the pan flute, is in some ways harder than fast shredding. If he made a single mistake everyone would be able to tell. I've seen videos where he's playing a regular flute as well. He's amazing.
I think the 1997 version of this song is better. But that's a super beautiful, melodic and emotional song! Love Camel so much... Try the song ICE next for serious emotions!
The " rare Wind instrument " Is a Siku . Borned in North west of Argentina /Bolivia and Perú . Was created by its original people before Spainish colony . Saludos de Argentina !
Moonmadness is Camel's definitive album. The most successful in the band's history. Recently they released a blu ray playing the entire album live. I do not recommend the album The Snow goose for those who are new to Camel. Rajaz is another masterpiece of the band.
I heard of camels on a desert but never heard of a band named Camel. I didn't know this is an instrumental. I thought it was a nice piece of music that was well played. The instrumentation is excellent. You are correct Shawn, that man played the pan flute. It produces a haunting sound. I agree Trey about the mellow style and nice lead guitar in the second half of the song. Cool title. Since there are no lyrics, I wonder what it means? Sometimes I feel like a stationary traveller.
Camel has made quite a few instrumental songs, even a complete album: The Snow Goose. Check out the song 'Sahara' and imagine yourself riding a camel in the desert ... 🐫🐫🐫🎸 The albums 'Dust and Dreams' and 'Harbor of Tears' are great too! And of course the prog masterpiece Lady Fantasy !!!!
@@harrry1977 I like this instrumental, so I would like to check out the instrumental and other albums you suggested. Thank you for letting me know about some of their songs.
Try 'Sasquatch', which is from the 'Single Factor' album and also appears on the same videos as the clip here is extracted from, 'Pressure Points'. The original version of 'Sasquatch' featured drummer Simon Phillips (Jack Bruce, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Toto...) and bassist David Paton (Pilot, Alan Parsons Project, Kate Bush, Elton John...). It's an upbeat instrumental that exemplifies Andrew Latimer's great tone, technique, and sense of melody. There is also live video version from the 'Coming of Age' DVD, during the time when Latimer was living in California. A serious illness took him home to England, and he continues to front Camel, with a fine DVD from the Albert Hall being the most recent offering. Also worth noting that Roger Waters wanted Latimer in his band, but his voice was apparently incompatible in terms of fit for the backing harmonies.
The best version is (still) the original album version. Even Latimer himself didn't quite catch it on stage. Also, the part before the pan flute part on the studio album is played on spanish guitar. You should check out: The Snow Goose album Nude album In From The Cold Live DVD P.S. Latimer also plays the transverse flute. Enjoy!
great video, would absolutely love if you guys did more of kanye west’s albums, he definitely has the best/most diverse discography in all of music history!
@@typicaldigicamenjoyer Son, there's a whole lot more artists that came way before him.. and have much more _diverse and better discography's_ ... but for you youngun's I understand.
Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist first off dont try to son me like you’re actually someone who has the authority too...and to get back to the music you probably assume i listen to mainstream artists that my generation glorify, but that simply isn’t the case. i’m not even a fan of rap anymore but kanye wests music isn’t even “rap” i consider it to be pure art and genius. each and everyone of his albums is (sonically) completely different than each other. with his album 808’s and heartbreak he single handedly shaped the new generation of artists music including drake which some would consider to be the biggest most successful artist of all time due to so many of his hit songs (which i am most definitely not a fan of) so really i guess my main point is no other band, artist, or group can successfully push their limits the way kanye west has and still be relevant especially with the way today’s society works, and how you have to keep doing the next crazy ass thing to barely stay relevant. im sure you can name dozens of bands that i listen to with perfect discographies, but when it comes to kanye west the diversity by itself cannot be compared to anyone else. also idgaf if this was one long ass sentence
With all the debate about Rolling Stone magazine top 250 guitarists lists its a terrible indictment on whoever compiles the list that Andy Latimer is not on there anywhere. Shows they know nothing. If you want a guitar player with emotion there's not many better than Andy Latimer.
I've been lucky enough to see them live. Andy Latimer puts his heart and soul into playing, and as you can tell, a very romantic and sensitive heart it is too !

You don't talk while listening to 'Stationary Traveller'. Like much of Camel, you just drop into the groove and let it carry you wherever it goes.
