Rodney is playing much of the solo with his thumb ala Wes Montgomery which is why is the sound is different and a bit less clean. But it's incredibly difficult especially at this tempo. Rodney normally plays with a pick but recorded a whole record playing with his thumb with Tommy Flanagan who was on some of Wes Montgomery's original albums. Barry and Fareed are great players but neither of them have this level of technique playing with the thumb. George Benson and Rodney Jones are the only one I've come across that have recorded high level jazz records playing with their thumb.
@@FareedHaqueMusicyou’re the best thank you for sharing your gift. Barry is a professor at my school but I have been listening to some garaj mahal and to see you guys play together was so cool
Yea. Same songwriter. But that melody is most definitely lazy bird. I had this confirmed by other pro guitarists who were performing at the festival. Go spin the record. ;)
Barry Greene is an incredible teacher. If you want to learn, check out his online material. Great guy and monster player.
The best , I don’t Care what kind of music you listen to you have to appreciate great musicians, and this is the best.
WOW!!!!!!

No problem! I’ve got more footage to post from the festival !

Barry Greene just kills it. Not sure what's going on with Rodney.
It’s called “burning”.
If you don’t know what is going on with Rodney go practice some more.

@@patrickmullins4552 "Same songwriter" LOL ! Composer of Giant Steps and Lazy Bird is John Coltrane, a legend of jazz.
@@anneonym7346 that’s literally exactly what I implied in the context of my comment. :)
@@patrickmullins4552 Dude, please do not name Coltrane as a "songwriter" It's not appropriate. Period.
@@anneonym7346 oh you’re equivocating now. Gotcha. Cheers
