So the 'Distinguishing between spirits' as its translated by the ESV is what the person was talking about. The KJV has this translation for verse 10 "To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongue". Discernment of Spirits or Distinguishing between Spirits - it doesn't matter which translation you read this is the same meaning - it is absolutely a Gift of the Holy Spirit do not be confused between this and Word of Knowledge. The Holy Spirit does bestow upon believers the ability to discern Spirits in order to protect Christians. This is absolutely a Gift from God and is true and alive today and do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
To be honest when you pray if you feel the Holy Ghost come over you and you start to pray in tongues that’s as God gives utterance. We don’t do it ourselves it’s of God not man. Love this teaching

[24] But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: Notice this verse, and yet all these Pentecostals are breaking the rules and speaking to thw air. All this is confusion and babel. Nowhere did they speak jibberish . Paul said do all speak in tongues, aka languages... Right there, he's saying not all have these gifts. Quit pushing this on people and love one another, and Profecy.... Pentecostals have disobeyed everything and call themselves Christians, and I beg to differ. These false tongues are not of God. Pentecostals stole the name from a Jewish festival that took place 50 days after the passover. What an insult to the jews. Acts is a transitional book, went from Jews to Gentiles. And yet again, they live and breathe Acts 2, which was a one day event that happened l, and yet they hang their heads on this chapter, lol. Also, they try to teach you how to speak in tongues, talk about demonic, and what if you start doing this, and you curse God out. Scary!!!!! So, God is ok with you speaking in your native language.
I rebuke this kind of aggressive bitter speech in the name of Jesus. I would also say to be very careful with thinking like that because the Bible is very clear about not attributing the power of God to the devil. And very clear about not talking about a man if God this way. I have heard this man preach and he is anointed and very much a man of God.

With all due respect, I believe you sincerely misunderstand the topic as I see your interpretations are incorrect. First of all the initial outpouring of the holyghost was for everyone, but what paul was speaking of was the gift of diverse tongues which is different. You misunderstand the two. When you speak of pauls writings its important to not forget who he was writing to. Which was the church who had already received the initial outpouring of the holyghost. There are numerous examples throughout the new testament that prove that when people initially received the holy ghost that they spoke with other tongues (acts 2:4, 2:38, 10:44, 19:6, 8:14-18 to mention a few). I hope this helps and gets you to see its very essential to receive the gift of the holy. Corinthians speaks on the gifts of the spirit and thats when you apply contextual principles to the scripture. I hope this helps you. God bless
