I heard this gem in Spotify and is actually one of my favorites, idk why you guys aren't famous yet, but that detail makes it better ;)
I knew this song from the movie "The Lie" (2018)
All lyrics are art to me, really good song!
Oh yes
I knew too 😊
RUN RIVER NORTH!!! Woahhh
Love this song!!!
It's true RRN with some Cage the Elephant thrown in, I like it
Every single release from the upcoming album just gets me more and more hyped. Seven, Pretender, and Superstition are all amazing songs!
Fantastic song by a versatile band!! Their live shows are fabulous!
Just saw them play this live, they all gave a hell of performance!
This was the opening track last night at the Gramercy Theatre - great show by one of the best bands I've ever seen!
Dang... so dark! Loving it.
Just wanted to say that I love the indie folk sound of the first album AND this more rock style for the second album, they are my two favorite styles and you guys do them both so well I love it thank you❤️
Saw this song live. Loved it then love it now.
its sad this doesnt have more than 100k views
Good sound congratulations!! new is never obsolete
Saw them open for Rooney in Portland. They are an amazing live band. So hype
I love you guys so much please keep it up!!! Don't mind the people who are questioning the faith aspects of your music or lamenting the fact you are experimenting by branching out from folk into other genres. It's very natural for artists to be inspired and carried away to honing different modes of expression. What I love about your music is that it speaks to this generation and the messages are so real. I have found I can relate to this music so much more because the content is comprehensive... not touching upon just the few topics of faith like believing wholeheartedly in God... finding relief in him etc etc.. the kind of music we have more than enough of already. This music is exactly what this generation needs and it's what I needed so thank you. I hope that more artists of faith will be inspired to create art that is wholesome and beautiful and truthful like you have created and are aspiring to create. Thank you x 3.
This band needs to be known. Only 500 likes? I wish I could like it more than once.
"Pretender"
What do you say to everyone that you meet?
When everything you say is so hard to believe
I know you mean well, man you can sell the shit out of yourself to everyone else
I know you hear me, I hear you too
You're making everything all about you
Real eyes realize real lies
And I caught you cheating on truth
Mr. Pretender, come and see what you've done
Your foolish tricks, they ain't fooling anyone
Mr. Pretender, don't you know who I am?
I am your best friend, but I ain't your biggest fan
What do you mean with everything that's been said?
When everything said is broken and bent in different
Wait just a minute, I can't believe it
You're repairing yourself in front of everyone else
Mr. Pretender, come and see what you've done
Your foolish tricks, they ain't fooling anyone
Mr. Pretender, don't you know who I am?
I am your best friend
I am your best friend
I am your best friend
And I know you're trying, but the truth is flying out the door
And it hurts my heart when I see how much of me that you, that you are
Mr. Pretender, come and see what you've done
Your foolish tricks, they ain't fooling anyone
Mr. Pretender, don't you know who I am?
I am your best friend, but I ain't your biggest fan
No no no
Yeah yeah yeah
No no no
I ain't your biggest fan
No no no
Yeah yeah yeah
No no no
No
Great vid and great song!! I'm annoyed by people who think this is the place to question your faith or tell you you're making the wrong songs. Make the songs you want, guys!! This might not appeal to people who are in love with the indie folk kind of stuff and don't like heavier music, but that's okay. You can't please everyone. But I know this will appeal to tonnnnns of other people, for sure :)
+Ruenne +1
Knowing RRN's faith aspect of their first album, the way I interpret this song is that God is speaking to humanity or more specifically Christians who think they have it all together. The three characters in the video, in my mind, represent vanity, addiction/anger, and (maybe) childishness - those not willing to learn from their mistakes.
The song talks about how one sided the relationship is.
("I know you hear me, I hear you too. You're making everything all about you.")
But despite this relationship where we expect God to fix our problems, we still try to fix ourselves - sometimes for other people's pity/approval.
(Just a minute, I can't believe it. You're repairing yourself in front of everyone else.)
So the narrator (God) is asking "Mr. Pretender" to look at himself in the mirror and ask how he expects to get away with it. This explains the mood of the video and why all three characters are dragged into some sort of darkness at the end.
("Mr. Pretender, come and see what you've done. Your foolish tricks, they ain't foolin' anyone.")
As if "God" doesn't already know that "Mr. Pretender" is faking it.
("Mr. Pretender, don't you know who I am?")
And I love the gut punch at the end of chorus.
("I am your best friend, but I ain't your biggest fan.")
Meaning "I love you, but I don't like what you're doing."
I saw RRN for the first time a couple months ago, and this was by far my favorite song from the set. So glad it's out now.
I really like your music😭💕
Melhor banda do mundo
amazing video. loved it
I love this song. Don't understand what people are whining about..
This song was great live. You do a great job of working the crowd at the shows! ...how come you're vinyl has a weird voice for the singer of fun house, though?
What do you mean the vinyl has a weird voice for fun house? My sounds fine.
Different but awesome. So pumped for the album
love the music. come visit Korea ^^
alright, i love this band but is it okay if i dont get the "meaning" of the song because i never really look for meaning in songs
fucking love you guys!
Awesome😃👍👍👍
the folk aspect of their first album is what really made it great, this new stuff lacks the emotion the first had, I really connected with the first. I hope they don't stray away from folk permanently
I like the song, but the video distracts from the song rather than enhances it. At least for me. I heard them play this song live. Amazing band.
perhaps a comment on mental illness? even if it wasn't, I still love the song and video. it's a very powerful performance
Love this track, it sounds like a pixies song from 1990.
😎👍😎👍😎
Its kind of heavey to me, but I still like it.
heard this on the lie and immediately went searching :))
Love a good detective
I loved these guys once just because of the song "Growing Up". Now seriously! What the fuck is this!?!?
+Batuyan There is nothing wrong with this song. It's an amazing song. Just because you liked one of their songs that's a different style doesn't mean they are wrong my making music like this.
i love all their songs, but do they believe in God? bc if so thats even more of a plus
Spliff time 16.40
hm.
this song used to be so upbeat lol now it's pretty creepy
I grow increasingly convinced that this song is about Donald Trump.
Heard this song on the movie The Lie on Amazon video. like if you did to..
