Professor Madhuku you’re an extremely talented, intelligent, professional, passionate, principled and honourable man of integrity unmatched and unparalleled!!!
Mwashuma Prof. For additional context to fellow citizens, a referendum in the political sense is a direct vote in which an entire electorate is invited to accept or reject a specific proposal. This proposal could be a new law, an amendment to the constitution, or a major political decision. Referendums are a form of direct democracy, as opposed to decisions made by elected representatives. Key Features of a Referendum: 1. Direct Participation: Citizens vote directly on the issue rather than through their elected officials. 2. Binding or Advisory: a) A binding referendum means the decision must be implemented. b) An advisory referendum provides guidance to lawmakers but does not require action. 3. Majority Decision: The outcome is typically determined by a majority vote (either simple majority or a qualified majority, depending on the system). In the Context of Zimbabwe: If Zimbabwe were to hold a referendum to change the constitution to allow a president to serve more than two terms: - Proposal: The proposed amendment to the constitution would be drafted and publicized, specifying changes to the presidential term limits. - Public Vote: Citizens would vote yes or no to approve or reject the amendment. - Outcome: If the referendum passes (usually by a simple majority), the constitution would be amended, enabling a president to serve beyond the current two-term limit. Why Referendums Matter: - Legitimacy: A referendum provides a measure of public support or opposition for a significant decision. - Democratic Accountability: It allows the electorate to have a direct say on major constitutional changes. - Risks: Referendums can be divisive or influenced by misinformation, and their outcomes might not always reflect informed decision-making.
Professor Madhuku, you are thoroughly well vested in your subject. Zimbabwe honestly thank youfor that. Blessed are the legal students who go through your hands .Keep on educating us!!!
Dear Hon Pres Mnangagwa, in your third term of office, please if you want to be clever, do what Zimbabweans wants you to do. Little advice to you and your naughty cabinet, have budget which covers " Electricity projects, rural growth-points infrastructural development, border control projects; old age /disabled persons grant budget and govt parastatals viz, agricultural projects to can absorb the youths. Otherwise your attempts for the third term is going to be a reverse of corporal punishment meant for you and your Comrades.

There are 3 important points from this interview: 1. The incumbent HE President Mnangagwa has unequivocally said he does not want to go beyond the 2nd term. 2. Those who are pushing the 3rd term agenda are doing so for selfish reasons- they want to use the president in the same way they did with the former president- to preserve or pursue their personal interests. 3. It is not only up to HE President ED to counter the wave of thinking and push to extend beyond 2 terms - it is a shared responsibility - politicians, citizens, intercessors.. The main challenge as to why people would support an idea publicly whilst they might not agree privately is that in the past leaders have been indicating left then turning right to identify and weed out opponents or those who do not show unwavering loyalty. Some people are afraid of being crushed by the system...this is so much entrenched especially in the ruling party.. the people who later came out criticising former president Mugabe were the very ones who spoke against and attacked the initial critics. It's ironic and sad at the same time..
President ED Mangwana only must be a life president and no one will change that

Its simple really, we should take the president at his word. We need to mature and play our part, for many years, the general public have been unwilling to take responsibility. In the end, we then expect too much from politicians, be it ruling party or opposition.
Madhuku is arguably one of the most politically brilliant minds we have in Zimbabwe. It would be folly for the Ed 2030,sympathisers to ignore his advice. Constitutionalism should always take precedence in any setup which claims to be a democracy 🤔
I think he should rebuke those people publicly. Remember he had the same issue when some people were propping him up via the Lacoste faction. He didn’t rebuke them publicly and clearly because he knew he was behind the whole thing. We are going to end up with a situation where he says, “the people have spoken and they still want me.” He will probably say the people are the constitution of this country.
Ypu are missing the point. If people want him what should he do? Refuse their mandate? What prof is sayng here is, if people dont want this, then let them show it. Simple. If they want it, its going to happen
The learned Professor speaks eloquently and authoritatively however lets rewind to 2017 with specific reference to the removal of a sitting President and his Vice ( Mtsrieep) . Zimbabwe currently needs a complete change of the whole system. Winner take all is what have driven Zimbabwe to the dogs,we must change to threshold system like in Germany.
Since when did ZANU Pf follow the constitution? Elections, the spending of public funds have all been outside of the constitution but it hasn’t stopped them from borrowing outside of the law or spending outside of the law.

he is saying it's not easy because the constitution also says the incumbent does not benefit feom the change. It benefits the one who comes after him.
