I think the Sox have done ok this offseason, so far. A great off season would be acquiring Bregman as an upgrade over O’Neill. He’s tailor made for Fenway at 3rd base. RH power bat who will destroy the monster. Great glove and he’s a veteran champion player. Boras stands in the way. Wants probably one or two years more than what Henry wants to pay. Although if his client wants Boston, it might extend his career popping dents into the wall, so it could be better lucrative on back end of Bregmans career. Devers can’t play 1B. He needs to DH. Casas deserves another prove it year. If he can’t stay healthy, yeah you move Devers into that slot. If Story stays healthy and Sox can get Bregman, I think you energize Cora. At the trade deadline, you have the option of making a trade for what you need. Jones? Definitely need to find a home for Yoshida unless you keep him as a corner OF utility player to keep players legs fresh throughout a terribly long season of 162 games. I think it’s safe to say the Red Sox young players will improve this year. And the upward pressure from prospects is totally healthy. I have alot of respect for Henry as an owner. I think he’s saying to this team, “show me you’re ready to grab the gauntlet.” Some Red Sox fans aren’t very patient. If anything, these type fans piss me off. They live through the Red Sox every day. Can you imagine how these people probably are living?
To be perfectly honest I would love Bregman, but I think I’d rather commit that money elsewhere. I think between Campbell and Mayer one of those guys is going to seize a starting spot by 2026 easily and you still have Story who needs to start. Maybe you can trade him in the next offseason but it’s not always that easy. I think I’d rather sign someone like Randal Grichick on a short term deal to give some power to the lineup and then see what you have those year with the young kids while putting that money toward Starting pitching. Thanks for the input though! Love talking baseball with you guys!
@@SoxContentI like those ideas! But, can we get a positive statement from Mayer about starting his career at 3B? Xander did it. I agree that the best move just may be letting the prospects come of age. Ceddane and Wilyer improving. Have some patience and trust in the process. Keep building the farm with pitching. Maybe Casas breaks out and stays healthy?
The 2nd base job will be a fight between Campbell, Grissom, and Hamilton. I'm thinking Hamilton will be traded at the end of spring training. At the end of the day the big right-handed bat that the line up is missing could be the combo of Grissom and Campbell being in the line up. Pitching wise I'd be happy with either Martin or David Robertson for the pen. I'd really like a Walker Buehler signing, but I could also see them standing pat. Fitts and Priester to us may look like fringe guys, but to them they could look like the next big thing. They both more then held there own in there cups of coffee. Good video once again. Keep on your grind!!!
If they are smart they will find a way to get Campbell into that line up. Who knows he just might win the second base job.. Adding Crochet was a great move. Very badly needed. If they were smart they would sign Burnes. They could use another piece in that starting rotation. I have been a redsox fan for over 60 years now. Love the team. They just are not showing much of a willingness to spend big. Now they traded a very nice group of prospects to get Crochet. Lets see how quick they are about signing him long term. You don't want him walking because look at what they gave up for him!!! Its not worth it for only two years of Crochet if thats all you get out of it. We gave up Teel and Montgomery and thats quite a bit. Lets hope Crochet can stay healthy. As far as Chapman goes I agree. You do not want him closing. He strikes out plenty of batters but he also suffers from lack of command and walking people. I am looking forward to seeing Roman Anthony & Kristian Campbell on this team. I was hoping Chris Martin would come back on a one year deal. His command is far better than Chapman . I would not mind having them both in the bullpen. Good video my friend. Thanks. Joe
Thanks so much a Joe! I agree with much of this. If you check out the video I did on the Crochet trade I mention there that the return for him definitely hurt, but as long as you pick him up it’s OK. I think long term we’re going to look at Montgomery and really wish we kept him. We definitely need to add one more big arm, I’d love Burnes but would even be pretty happy with Buehler or several others along those lines. Thanks for sharing your opinion! 🙏
@@josephdubiel7129 They Badly need to replace T.O. and if thry wrre going to let him go I surely hope they have a plan for that spot and a plan that includes 30 to 40 homeruns..and we already know they cant count on Story hecseems to have the Chis Sale disease...he just cannot stay healthy..Not to mention all the first year guys we had last season with no real knowledge on whst they will do this year...and on top of all that they really really still need a top tier pitcher they are clearlybto cheap to go get..so frustrated with their lack of spending!
I see Giolito, Yoshida and possibly if he's not 100% yet Hendricks all starting the season on IL. I feel Yoshida's shoulder will require a bit more babying and it will give them also a chance to try some different combos at DH. I feel they're going to baby Giolito's innings and pitch counts, at least early on and the first couple weeks at least on the IL and they'll ease him in. I don't see Roman or Campbell starting the season in Boston, barring an unbelievable training camp and Mayer is ticketed for Worcester no matter what, as he's got to start and play and show he can stay healthy all year and still play at the high caliper he did the last couple years. All three of them are still so young and if they keep them in the minors for the first two months and then bring them up, they get an extra year of team control over them. I only see any of them up before that unless there's a major injury early on or if one of them is so good in training camp, that they can't possibly be sent down. I still can't believe they won't add a starter and another good reliever, as well as a right handed bat. So far, there are no takers for Abreau, at least not on the Red Sox terms and Yoshida is pretty much untradable at this point without eating a big chunk of his remaining salary. If they don't add a right handed power bat, the few righties currently on the team need to step up and have better than average seasons for them to move the needle upwards. There's potential there, but they have to stay away from key guys getting injured for large chunks of the season, which is easier said than done.
Agreed. I think you get a Buehler/Flaherty type this team easily has a strong chance of making it. Even right now the lineup is already arguably equal to or better than both the Orioles and Yankees.
We got 3rd place last season, and we still have big help coming still from our top prospects that we haven’t had in years even if we do nothing else (which we still will). I might be reaching a bit, but I’m just always optimistic about the team this time of year, and really laying it out like this just made me feel even better tbh.
this is def an upgrade from last year. breslow did more with less (bloom take notes). however tho we need more. we need massive upgrades rn. we need more
Yeah, I mean more of a homegrown superstar that fans will support. It would be too much to put on him to expect the production Mookie gave the team. Mookie Betts will be a first ballot hall of fame player when he is done. I really wish he could go in as a Red Sox player.
@Robin-i9u, I will put it this way. If you came from 4 years in the future and told me one of Campbell or Anthony won Roy and was world series mvp. Then you told me that the other was a league average bat we traded 2 seasons into his career, and I could bet on which did what. I would bet all my money that Campbell was the successful player.
Have to remember that the Yankees haven’t really gotten too much better, kind of a wash at the moment with losing Soto - and the Orioles on paper also got worse with likely losing Burnes, while the Red Sox have already gotten better. I think it’s closer than people give it credit for because the promised big move(s) haven’t really happened outside Crochet.
Until we get a solid 2B and a few bullpen arms.....it's not a whole lot better. Story has to stay healthy and our young starting pitchers including Crochet have to continue to get better. Must replace the offense of O'Neill....
Could be! I do think that the *peak* of this team is way higher just having Crochet and Hock 1/2 in the rotation though. Right now maybe they’re a .500 team but I think if they won 90+ as is it wouldn’t be shocking either.
the Red Sox offense gets a bad rap... last year losing Casas and Story for much of the season was a big blow and yet they still stayed in the playoff hunt till the very end.. injuries have been the killer for this team the last few years.. and as far as pitching.. it's about time Tanner learns how to be able to last an entire season.. this is MLB, it's 162 game season.. I don't wanna hear that he's not use to it.. either learn to take the heat or get out of the kitchen.. hopefully we get improvement from Bello this year.. it's time for him to step up too.. enough of this "I'm just a kid" crap

last year the sox were 7 games away from the playoffs. if story casas whitlock giolito and grissom were healthy theres a whole lot of games they might have won! go look at the games they lost by one run. a defensive play by story a hit by casas giolito pitching instead of whoever the 5th starter was. whitlock is pitching instead of bailey horn casas is at the plate with the bases loaded instead of garrett cooper or dom smith. story is there to make the tough play at short? they woulda won those games and more!
