I had to have a similar declutter when my arches collapsed. It's so hard to say goodbye to the beauty and embrace practicality ... which is kind of wild when we're talking about our feet! No matter how silly our outfit we still have to stand up in it and we often choose the least practical item for them most necessary area! I enjoyed this video. It was, as always, honest and comprehensive.
Aw sorry you went through something similar too. So so true everything you said! We really do need to look after our feet, and it’s often only once they start hurting that we realise 😵💫 😋 happier feet days ahead!! X❤️
I am a complete and utter shoeaholic, Emily. I have over 100 pairs 🙄 Really good quality leather, suede, etc. No designer brands but well-known mid range brands. A lot I have bought on sale, so paid far less than the full price. I do not buy them like I used to, promise. But every now and then... I love my low rise. Converse: they are a breathable knit stretch material in white, but while I wear them a lot, they make my heel sole area so sore if I walk too much in them. I look after my shoes and most are in fabulous condition. One pair of buttery soft black leather ankle boots have been to the cobbler many, many times 😅 Ohhh dear, it's time to look at clearing out some. Thank you for your motivation to be honest with myself. Pats for Fanta 🐈🧡
I really like how real your process was. I also started suffering from pain in one toe and it drastically changed what shoes I can still wear which also affected my overall style. I was quite upset about it in the beginning as I had been able to walk in beautiful heels at work for 10 hrs with no problems then suddenly I can’t even stand 10 mins in those same shoes. Also, I felt a bit lost and frustrated because I had to adjust my whole dress style when I had to limit my shoe collection. I finally embraced a more minimalist way of dressing and invested in some nice and good quality tailoring to complement the more comfortable shoes I had to wear to avoid agonizing pain. Life is too short to wear uncomfortable shoes or clothes!
Oh wow so interesting to hear about your journey. Sorry it was like that for you, but silver lining I guess because it sounds like you minimised and are happier now? 😌 Thanks for sharing, this is really helpful for me and I'm sure others will find it helpful too. 100% agree life is too short and our feet are SO important! xx
Ex shoe shopaholic here. Diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. Like you, it became SOOO painful to wear narrow toe box shoes. I had to transition to zero drop. Altra’s are amazing. Still searching for those cuter options. Out of necessity, comfort has trumped fashion.
I used to have over 100 pairs of boots alone as I'm a bootaholic. Got rid of a lot before a move and still getting rid of some. I find that I really don't even miss them.
I used to have soooo many shoes😂 a lot of them where high heels i had just to look at them-so stupid😂i used to have 2 wardrobes over 2m long and an other smaller one, all of them full of 💩. Now i have a lot less and things i use..i find it so cute how you apologized to your cat 🥹😆
I have also admired my high heels from afar for yeaarrssss!! This is a very relatable comment! Haha Fanta is the King of the house, I hate to upset him 😆🥰🐱👑 !!!
Fellow shoe lover here, also love having a variety to choose from. I've decided this week to force myself to try to style a pair of brogues I don't wear often to decide if they should go and you've now inspired me to do so with some other pairs as well. Thanks for doing this video! Nice to see your thought process :)
So sad that you can't wear a lot of shoes due to pain. I'm really impressed by how realistic you were with what you actually are going to wear. Kudos to you!
Shoes and earrings. My foot changed after menopause. It got longer so I had to get rid of some shoes. I usually keep shoes until they are literally worn out. My earrings are also a collection many of which are vintage. They are my main accessory next to shoes. I used to wear any shoe I felt like but not anymore. They have to be comfortable.
Hi Emily Great video I had to get rid of most of my shoes about 7 years ago thanks to bunions and low arches, my podiatrist recommended two brands of shoes that made the transition so easy. Australian and have stores in Sydney, Bared and Frankie 4 Bared I find are great for boots and sandals and Frankie 4 great for runners. I know it’s hard letting go of them but your feet will thanks you later in life. Also I would love to see a video on how you sell things online. Just a thought for future video
Oh my goodness Rachel, thank you!! 🙏🏽💖🙏🏽 I have a Frankie 4 close to me, I’ll start there. I really appreciate this. Sorry you have feet issues too, I think it’s almost inevitable for everyone. Thanks also for the video suggestion! I love that idea and I will add it to the list 🙏🏽✨
I have decluttered my clothes several times over the years and have always kept them organized by color/style. Though I must confess, I have not decluttered my shoes! Lol If I purchase a new pair of shoes or clothing item, I donate something, but I have not gone through my whole collection of shoes. It has been in the back of my mind for months and months now. There are so many pairs of shoes I can no longer wear due to my age (Goodbye 3 inch heels) and lifestyle changes. I am sooo glad I came across your post on Pinterest, which bought me to your You Tube Channel. My weakness is SHOES!!! Thank you for the inspiration.
Good luck! This exact thing happened to me when I finished modelling and become a mum. Huge lifestyle change, therefore huge closet change! It feels good to start new chapters though. All the best 💕💕 xx
Unpopular opinion but I looove high heels! I wear them 5-6 days a week. I recently decluttered my 2 pairs of sneakers that I just never ever wear 😂 but I always hear people say the opposite! So I think I held onto the sneakers way longer than I should have because I see everyone else wearing them, and I thought they were a logical choice. But I'm much happier with my heels 👠
Such a good point to bring up because everyone is different! ❤️ I have a close girlfriend who lives in heels and they make her feel amazing and she has no pain, her personal style revolves around her heels. It’s awesome that you can recognise that and make the right choice for you 😁 (I’m very jealous you can wear them all the time because I love the way they look 😍😆🥰🙏🏽) xox
I also have arthritis in my two big toes and have had to do this several times since my feet change and things that used to work well now cause a lot of pain. Honestly it makes me sad to have to pass things along that I still love but no longer work for me.
Emily, this is such an eye opener for me. I have a lot of sentimental shoes that I need to part with because they are not that comfortable. I live near the city and do a lot of walking so it’s sneaker’s most days. Thanks for inspiring me to do a shoe declutter, I needed that.
I am an ex-shoe shopaholic. Used to hv at least 20 pairs despite only reach for ceritain shoes everytime. Sold all of them in the last 2 years. Now I only hv 4 pairs : (a pair of each) docmart, hiking boots, white sneaker, black high top converse. Also in search of a good quality dressy/feminine shoes. Very satisfied with my collection.
I have worked in a shoe store as assistant manager for the last 4 years. I now own 12 pairs of boots and I live on the Gold Coast. My shoe collection is now ridiculous. I previously worked for a fast fashion clothing brand for 3 years so when I left there I donated a lot of clothes to an opshop that I run on my days off work. The clothing brand I worked for is one of the most donated brands of clothing and most of it is not fit to be resold. Luckily there are 3 other women in my family with the same size feet that I can pass shoes on to. Broken toes and a torn meniscus in my knee mean no more high heels. I mainly accumulate sneakers and espradrilles . I am having a no buy year this year for clothes and shoes as I found even my thrifting for clothes was getting out of control. The rail in our wardrobe fell down last week under the weight of all our clothes
Finally someone talking about pain in toes:D. I know that we have different share of feet, but do really all people on UA-cam have very narrow toes? We need more comfortable shoes:)
😅 All the SHOES!!! We used to call my Mum "Imelda" (Marcos, famous for her plentitude of shoes). So my footwear obsession stems from her, I think. Last weekend, I finished my third pass of decluttering my wardrobe. Shoes are on the list next. I probably have about 60+ pairs. I wasn't looking for a shoe decluttering video, but you popped up serendipitously on my feed today 🔮. I love the fact that you are also Australian and use words like "bonkers" 😂. Acknowledging stages of life and changes in lifestyle is going to inspire me to let go of most of my "fantasy self"/past lifestyle stilettos and keep all my Birkies 🤗 Our feet carry us everywhere 👣 they deserve to be treated kindly. So much gratitude to you for the inspo to continue my decluttering, and contributing to the circular economy 🙏 🥰💃
Oh my, I love this comment for so many reasons! Hahah you've made me smile 😊 thank you! I'm so glad you watched and enjoyed it and you are inspired. See you in the next vids I hope 💕 ... YAY for birkiess!!!! 😆😆
Yeah comfort is my priority too when it comes to shoes. I have a recurring nail problem due to wearing uncomfortable ones. The only closed shoes I can wear are sneakers and depending on the type, boots. Whenever I wear something else, my nails stop growing for a couple of months and my toes get sore. Nail health should be taken into consideration when buying shoes. I only started thinking about it after I went to a doctor, she told me I was hurting my nails simply because I've been wearing wrong shoes for all these years. Never would've thought.
You did great Emily! You inspired me to declutter my shoes as well. I will not get rid of that many but I definitely will! I love my Converse Chuck 70 which are more comfortable than the regular ones. Maybe that would help you stick to this style ? 🥰
Sometimes we de clutter and temporarily change shopping habits...But changing 20-50...year old ingrained habits isn’t always easy. Preventing that clutter from slowly creeping back in again takes determination and tenacity. 😖😤......😃
watching this makes me feel inspired to get my lazy bum up and sort out my shoe collection which I’ve been putting off for ages! side note tho - as someone with minor OCD, seeing you hold the bottom of the shoes and then touch your face makes me feel so uncomfortable ahha🤣 but overall a really satisfying and pleasant video🤍 good work!

As always, thank you for watching, I am so grateful! What is your wardrobe weakness? Mine has always been my shoes and my knits!!! 💖
Shoes and dresses 💓
Good ji8! My weakenss are bags but I did and am decluttering because I realized that some are no longer useful in my life 😅
@@simplygrace2722 I think bags are also an easy place to have too many and hold onto them for a long time 🫠😋❤️ x
Shoes, knits and jeans.
