Totally Not Mark Have all the characters fight Buu and when they realize they can’t win against him...they wish goku back towards the VERY absolute end to finally beat Buu
One problem, you can’t cut out the scene where vegeta embraces trunks. It was some major character development for vegeta and makes his sacrifice even more emotional. Edit: Also piccolo saying that he won’t end up in heaven adds to the sacrifice
I agree, keep the sacrifice. Could use the following approach to fit in with the proposed story. Vegeta should have told Trunks and Goten to take Gohan into the time chamber to save him, whilst having the humility to say that Gohan was Earth's only hope. *echoes of cell saga* Vegeta does this whilst fighting buu single-handed, in order to buy them time to get into the chamber. As Trunks stands at the door, Vegeta says something to Trunks about how proud he is of him and how he is going to miss seeing him grow up. Then Vegeta blows up the door before finally sacrificing himself up on the lookout.
Ironically, DBZ: Kackarot had a tiny amount of gameplay with the titular character. It was pretty much a "Gohan Ball Z Kai" as that was who was mandatory to play as in the story most of the time.
@@PrinceSilvermane and regardless of Dragonballs, he'd seen his dads corpse at age 4, seeing anybody dead at that young age would traumatise you, and doubly so if it was the father you idolised. then, add into that his being Kidnapped by Piccolo, regardless of how, in later life, he looked up to Piccolo, that would just add to the mess. then, add to that watching Yamcha, Tien and Chaotzu get murdered by Nappa (Yamchas death probably being the most traumatic, because, after thinking he'd won, Yamcha got blindsided), and then, Piccolo sacrificing himself to save Gohan, and, once again, somebody he is close to dying right in front of him. then add him having his neck broken by Recoome on Namek, on top of watching an entire species getting murdered by the space mafia, then Krillin dying in front of him. then you get the androids, who are hunting down his seriously ill father, to kill him, in Gohans mind, just because, and made even worse by him being surrounded by death at every turn as Cell wipes out entire citys, men, women and children, hundreds of thousands of them. then Vegeta letting Cell reach his perfect form, and, after that, his father, the man who is supposed to protect him, not only making him fight cell, but, giving Cell a senzu bean just before they fight. and then, his dad dies, again, and, this time, refuses to be wished back how in the hell is Gohan not a gibbering wreck by the start of the Buu saga? or a sociopath, who has been desensitised to death and suffering, who, after seeing so much death, feels that there is so little point in anybody being alive that he thinks that peoples lives are meaningless (frightening when you consider that, just a few days before his father comes back, he is literally the single most powerful creature on the planet) after all of that, Gohan having PTSD would be Gohan being a well rounded, happy go lucky individual
This is a good rewrite! The confusion from everyone during the last few minutes of this really amplified the intensity. My only tiny nitpick is that by removing Trunks from the situation _before_ Vegeta sacrifices himself also removes the hug they shared, which I feel weakens his realization that he needs to be a better father.
Also why would Trunks ignore Vegeta getting shot by Gohan completely? Shouldn’t he at least be conflicted? To virtually not acknowledge his father, and help Gohan without hesitation is questionable
@@99Gara99 stealing a page from plague of gripes But I deadass feel like half the reason the fans hate it, is because it’s one of the first and only times we see Gohan be himself, so now chuds that projected themself onto him can’t relate anymore because he’s not crushing skulls and getting 20 hoes 💀
@@Odinsday I honestly believe that Gohan was planned to be the main character after Goku died in the Cell Saga. Everything lead up to that moment so well for Gohan to take over. Seeing how in Japan everyone loves and clamors for more Goku (no matter what), Toriyama most likely had little choice when his editor/publisher pushed him to bring back Goku. It made business sense: customers wanted more Goku, and Goku brings the money. This is the guy who absolutely hated Vegeta as a character. When he was killed off, his role in the Saiyan and Freeza sagas were done as far as Toriyama was concerned, but Vegeta was such a huge fan favorite and begged for Vegeta to return, so Toriyama bent to the will of his customers. It's all about money in the end.
You know, I love the entire thing, but I feel like characters pop in and out of consciousness way to much. Feels like a plot device. Other then that, it was amazing! Keep up the great work!!!
Gohan sayin' "I always come back" is pretty deep. He's watched everyone else die, but he's always there to live another day. I soooo wish Gohan would have been the main character to end DBZ. It was set up perfectly. I can't wait for the next video. One thing tho, I'd hope the slice of life episodes aren't rushed.
I disagree. Gohan always needed someone to train him to reach new heights. A good example is how Future Gohan trained for years and still lost to the androids.
@@thechild7355 that's just shitty writing imo. Future Gohan should be able to kill those androids easily after getting beaten a few times. So much potential wasted.
So my girl Videl is, um, even more of a cheerleader in this version? And also has one line of dialogue so far... Cutting the school life arc is a massive misstep, imho. Make it more relevant, I say, don't cut it - it was the closest Gohan ever got to being the main character. He's unconscious for most of this retelling.
Yeah, that's probably a better idea. While the high school stuff became mostly irrelevant, it can still serve as a way of establishing the new status quo.
I haven't even watched the video yet, but I can safely say that "mini arc" is one of the most realistic and human moments in the entire series. (Was a great sigh of relief after the drawn out final cell fight...) It's interesting to see so many comments complain about "you took out this awesome part!", I guess it just goes to show that despite any problems the buu arc had, it had a lot of stand out moments that people really like lol
This is actually really good. A few things I would change (like maybe more than a minute for time with videl. Maybe give 2-3 episodes at the beginning to show what changed with the Z fighters, Gohan's life as protector and his relationship with Vidal, while also expanding more on his sever PTSD, and explaining about the next tournament and Goku's return.) But yeah this was an epic story.
I really like this reimagining :) I dunno if Gohan would have that much PTSD from Goku dying but I think Gohan somehow struggling with being the hero or believing in himself makes sense.
In short, not bad so far. I think the fight between buu, goku, and vegeta drags on a bit, and gohan getting beat down twice? Unnecessary. Still, it IS a good start. There is also one other thing that I want to mention. Dragonball as a whole is NOT just a "Dramatic martial arts action-adventure with fantasy and sci-fi elements" but throughout the series as a whole has several zany, whacky comedic elements, which your re-visioning seems to lack (so far.) Do I think the great saiyaman fullfills that roll? Not even close! But I think the series would have done well if it still retains at least SOME semblance of it's original character. Perhaps rather than just a purely flash-back two-minute excerpt, you could perhaps instead try a longer 2-3 episode bit where it re-introduces the characters as they are, including 18 and krillin, showing their relationship, and Maron, introducing Videl, and some of her back-story so we kinda care about her for a bit, as well as showing Piccolo (and compare his strength to Gohan NOW so it's more clearly established) as well as talking about how Goku's gonna be back for a bit, and showcase the emotions of Chichi as well as Goten, etc. (I agree with the no super-saiyan though. that's annoying).
I don't know why you pointed out how there is little comedy in this, this is just an outline of how he would make the buu saga better IHO. If he were to develop the story more like adding diolage and character interaction I'm sure he would add comedy in there but its not the most important aspect when making an outline
@@pikmin8129 Fair criticism, but I am a writer, and I do write outlines, and my criticism was in respect to how *I* write my outlines. I know no two people are the same of course. And I'm sure that if he actually tried to write it as a full story rather than just an outline, he would. That said though, you have to admit he literally took the entire beginning of the Buu arc that was designed for comedy, and removed it, replacing it with what amounts to flashbacks.
oh my kami I missed this so much, I tried to search for it after the incident but it, along with your other greatest works, are gone. Glad everything turn out quite alright for you for now, I believe we as a community, and youtube can prevent this from ever happen again.
The major issue I have with this redo you have is that there’s a bit of an increase in edge that kinda takes away from Toriyama’s intense, but ultimately exciting style. I’d say it starts with Gohan first training. The nearly punching Goten bit could work, but the freaking Goten out should be replaced with Goten coming within an inch of being punched but just smiles relaxed as Gohan manages to stop just before hitting his brother. This illustrates Goten’s trust and belief that Gohan has control in himself to never really hurt his little brother, plus illustrate the younger boy’s carefree nature to even potentially being hurt. Gohan should just laugh it off as Goten doesn’t react, keeping the tone light between them. When Goten leaves, then he should go a little tense but ultimately able to keep going. The idea that the memory of Cell triggers Gohan isn’t a bad one, either. Future Gohan used the memory of his friends dying to the androids to spur him into transforming, so it could be similar to Gohan losing his father to his hubris that allows him to continue going into SSJ2, but still stunts him from progressing beyond it. Plus, with Gohan making the almost-punch a lighthearted affair, it makes Vegeta actually striking his newly super saiyan’d son more impactful. Gohan’s would have been accidental, but Vegeta aimed for his son, blinded by the corruption of Babidi’s magic. Still, the effect of his action lingers in his mind, even through the haze of evil affecting him. Also, maybe no Gohan falling to his knees and screaming part at the beginning. Just the standard standing, screaming pose should work here. Hell, making the scream reminiscent to his first time powering up to SSJ2 would work better. Next, the Gohan still getting his energy drained? I’m a little meh on that one. Don’t make Gohan too negative or hopeless like canon. Hurts him in the storyline and believing he can keep with the other, battle-hardened warriors of the series. If you have Goku later illustrate that he had a similar experience when he went after Tamborine, after the first death of Krillin, then maybe it could work. But it’s still a hard sell. Maybe a showing of Goku, nursing his drained son on the tournament arena floor, looking between Gohan and Piccolo and flashbacking to his own experience of rushing into danger unprepared would add some strength and ease to Gohan’s rashness. Even a warrior as amazing as Goku has lost himself to his temper at the moment of tragedy and not done as well as the audience would have liked. And, again, when Gohan says ‘I always come back,’ it’s a bit of a weird line to say and, again, is a bit of a too heavy on the showing of his ptsd. Hell, having Videl saying he might not come back, Gohan being stunned and unable to respond for a moment, before offering a quick ’im sorry’ then flying off for his friends and father might be more impactful. Sometimes, a silent moment of thinking the situation over can be greater than active dialogue. Gohan thrashing Dabura, showing that cockiness of SSJ2 Teen Gohan that was so iconic and perfect of his character, would be a wonderful addition that would help keep Gohan popular even after the draining. Super really messed up by removing Gohan’s cocky edge, removing a key part of his enjoyable warrior persona. He’s like a bit of Goku and Vegeta in those moments, but with greater potential than both. Don’t take that away from us! The not letting the boys be instant Super Saiyan? Smart and good. Trunks going Super Saiyan at such a tragic moment as the arena attack, seeing his father, his role model, the proud and epitome of being a great man, attack those with a smile and destroy his perception of the youth and figure he loved and respected so much, could work nicely. While Vegeta saying he was proud of his son is a rather brilliant moment, I’m sure you can think of something equally impactful. Hell, at the very end of the saga, show a scene of Vegeta sitting on a bench, arms crossed and watching as his son plays at a local park. Even with a small smirk of pride on his face. Could work that way. Another issue I’d have is the exposition heaviness of the redo. We’re told, rather than shown by Goku contacting Gohan from the afterlife, that he’ll be returning. Were told what happened after Gohan had his energy drained. I get that Gohan is supposed to be the new mc, which I approve of, but showing the happenings, while extending the story out, would be more visually friendly and exciting then hearing it. The fusion dance...that’s a hard one. Gohan learning it though? Through unconscious hearing? Hmm. Maybe a psychic transfer of information, like when Goku read Krillin’s mind back on Namek? I don’t know. But hearing it doesn’t necessarily you could do it yourself. That’s a visual technique that needs to be seen to achieve. Gohan attacking Vegeta...Vegeta is a fan favorite. Having him be attacked, after seeing him fight for the good guys, even with his rival? In a weekly manga style, that may do irreparable damage to Gohan and his reputation in the fan base. People may not care so much for him then, especially attacking someone so popular blindingly. Especially when Vegeta is probably already heavily damaged by Buu already. It’s again another very edged and harsh moment that probably doesn’t need to be so. Buu is already wrecking everyone and the situation is hopeless. No need for the heroes to start fighting one another. Plus, maybe a blindside attack from Vegeta wouldn’t be necessary here, since Goku seems to raise himself up again almost immediately to help his rival. A Vegeta standing over Goku, foot pressed down on his neck, choking him slowly even as he is trying to be reasoned with by the desperate Goku, could be just as impactful. No need for quick in-and-out unconscious moments. Have Vegeta send Buu flying for a moment. Incapacitating him, but nowhere near dead, as he and Goku, along with the limited help of their young sons, devise a plan while Gohan weakly stirs awake. That also gets rid of the randomness of the boys knowing where to go with Gohan. And one last thing? Have Vegeta blow himself up on the lookout. Have Dende and Popo do something to get elsewhere, but the impact of how serious the villain would be would escalate immensely with the destruction of what was once a prominent rest stop for the heroes. It was sacrificed to possibly stop the monster, looking like a small sun erupted around it with Vegeta’s last efforts. It would be visually intense and impactful, as I think many fans have grown a connection with the location itself. A floating base atop the world, where earth’s heroes gather in times of crisis, has been obliterated in one of the greatest moments in Dragon Ball history. Would be kinda sick. But that’s just me and my thoughts. You have some pretty neat ideas, but don’t divert too much from Toriyama’s style. There can be dark or hard moments, but there’s always a sense of hope and enjoyment to them. Gohan blind firing Vegeta in a misunderstanding? Not very entertaining, just aggressive and darker then the already brutal fight moments against Buu would need to be.
I like how you would tweak this series to fit Toriyama's style a bit more, Totally Not Mark, is doing a good job with the narrative and story, but this kind of sounds like a rough draft of a story while your adjustments sound like something an editor for the Shounen Jump Magazine might say. I hope to hear more of your thoughts in next week's video.
This is pretty interesting. Gohan having PTSD is definitely an interesting idea considering all the shit he went through. Take a look at the Saiyan saga. He was 5 when all that happened. Half Saiyan or not that'd be pretty traumatising for someone that age and that's not even counting the Cell and Frieza sagas.
Haven't watched the whole video but I can see some problems already. 1) the whole marking a calendar with an x thing... you must know that's crap. It's cliche and lazy. 2) Gohan having PTSD... I love Future Trunks, but, I don't think we need Gohan to become a poor mans Trunks. Gohan should have his own character arc. (Hopefully you see the mistake now) 3) Taking away the SSJ forms from Goten and Trunks... ALL you've done is taken the intrigue away from the training scenes. Without this shock revelation the audience's interest level doesn't ramp up. (How can they transform so young?!! How strong are they? etc...) 4) The energy draining scene is poor. Why doesn't Gohan know the plan when everyone else does? Having him fall unconscious after transforming and all the build up - weak writing. You build up to a bang, not a whimper. 5) You've regressed Piccolo's character by having him stay back to berate Gohan. Gohan didn't even know the plan so why is Piccolo being so over the top angry at him? I think you're mixing up Vegeta's character and Piccolo's character here, but, even Vegeta wouldn't stay back just to say shit - he'd want to go where the action is. 6) Piccolo flying off and thinking "come on Gohan we're counting on you" is even worse. Now not only have you badly characterized Piccolo with the whole rant, you've also left the audience with a weak understanding of Piccolo's motivations. It first seemed like he was angry and disappointed with Gohan, but, not even 5 seconds later his WHOLE tone has changed abruptly and now everything that was just said makes no sense. I could tell you how to write it better but lets move on. 7) Videl stands infront of Gohan and shows him she cares, only for Gohan to shout at her and fly off. Gohan's character is shown in a poor light here. It doesn't even feel like Gohan. It feels like the story is implying this isn't Gohan anymore. 8) Gohan catches up to Goku and Vegeta who continue not to tell him anything which would sort the problem out immediately. I can see you're TRYING to make the audience feel out of the loop through Gohan to create tension and intrigue, but, this is crap. There's no reason for Goku to do this... I'm done picking on everything because it would take too long. I don't think you're understanding characters and character dynamics. Gohan is not Future Trunks, Piccolo is not Vegeta, etc... Why is everyone angry and shouting and on edge the entire time? Do you know who Goku is? He's light-hearted, just like Gohan and Goten. They have a childlike innocence in their demeanor. That's not to say they can't get angry and serious, but, you're not showing your audience who the characters are before you show the drastic change in attitude which signals the situation (and the mood of the character because of said situation) has changed. A KEY POINT THAT MUST BE CHANGED: Nobody feels like they're on the same team. Goku shouts at Gohan without explaining why Gohan is wrong, Piccolo shouts at Gohan, Gohan shouts at Videl, Goku tells Gohan to buck his ideas up the second they reunite... Might write more another time.
Taking away SSJ from Goten and Trunks is something I am 100% behind. Even throughout the Cell saga, super saiyan remained an incredible power that only the greatest heroes could achieve. The buu saga turned it into something Goten did when he was like 5 because his mother hit him. Maybe if they can actually earn super saiyan like the others then sure. But they just... were super saiyans. It was a plot contrivance, not an attempt to intrigue the audience with questions that never get answered or really asked.
@@Junebug89 yes it was absolutely just so that the kids weren't absolute fodder. The point still stands that the training portions of the saga would have been much MUCH more boring if they didn't go ssj. Just imagine it.
@@AidanStokes92 nah I agree trunks and gotten not going super saiyen was a good idea because of the story he built by doing so. He mention trunks didnt go super saiyen but got close to hitting veget. I'm sure with more flushed out writing your see how he'd make the scene interesting but fir the sake of the video he didnt give us a line for line demonstration of the scene. To get back to the point, trunks couldnt land a punch on vegeta. To fast forward to vegeta becoming possessed and killing the fans in the stance trunks; understanding the despicable act his father just commented, becomes overwhelmed with rage and passion charges vegeta as a super saiyen. With vegeta conflicted and in shock of seeing his son turn super saiyen for the first time, this is the moment trunks lays not only a punch but full on combination. Let them go back and forth but ultimately end in vegeta knocking off trunks. That would be the beginning of vegeta coming out of full surrenderance to bobidi. Then go forth like he said.
I think your intro would make Gohan someone he really wasn't. He doesn't just nervously or shyly become Earth's defender. He adamantly shirks that role until his father comes back to reclaim it. He doesn't want to be a defender in any sense besides his loved ones.
I’d rank the Buu Saga a subpar 4/10. A wildly inconsistent plot mixed with questionable character writing and plot devices galore. The arc was FAR from good. I do appreciate Majin Vegeta, the fusions, and all the Buus for being very entertaining though.
kefkapalazzo1 Subpar literally means below average. I’d consider 5/10 being the average (or mediocre) in almost cases Buu Saga wasn’t terrible at all. It just had more bad than good
“Gohan shot a blast straight through Vegeta’s sternum.” Vegeta gets back up and does his final explosion. Sorry, but do you know where the sternum is mark lol
For me the buu saga is the best saga in all of dragon ball, the extra parts makes it feel more important, new transformations, sad moment's,kakarot and vegeta moments new character (vegito) and many MANY other things
0:06 Every option here is wrong ()-() No Videl = No Gohan participating in the WT = No Goku coming back to life = Vegeta claping Dabura and finishing the saga if he dares to appear No Mystic Gohan = Nothing stops Super Buu from killing Goten & Trunks and Piccolo after they defuse the saga ends there /Goku is revived to save the kids as well as Vegeta and the saga would have ended with revived Goku & Vegeta Vs Super Buu No 3 Goku = Gotenks doesn't have SSJ 3 Super Buu would destroy his little ass to easily and doesn't wait a day for them to prepare Super Buu would just win unless Goku & Vegeta are revived No Gotenks = Goku would have no reason to not kill Buu(as the reason he didn't was because he wanted to leave it for the next generation aka the saga ends before it started) No Vegito = Buuhan wins and kills everyone the end
I didn’t like the forced flashbacks either. It’s too naruto like. We didn’t need to be reminded of piccolos sacrifice for gohan when he was a child to understand why gohan would want to jump in to save piccolo. This type of written assumes the audience is stupid and doesn’t know any better or something.. like dude, we know, cut away the flashbacks, this isn’t naruto.
LegendInThaMakin I disagree, the flashbacks serve as reminders to not only the audience, but to Gohan as to why he’s so quick to rash action in the story. This is perfectly exemplified near the end when Gohan sees Goku knocked out, that “not again” was brilliantly shown. Gohan not wanting to relive past trauma speaks volumes towards this depiction of his character
Bro you fucking sound good as a voice actor tbh. I wouldnt mind watching a show/anime with your voice over the main character's cuz the emotion behind your lines are GREAT!
Next. Goten being a super saiyan makes since. He was conceived while goku was a super saiyan. He spared with trucks alot who was being trained by vegeta. Also he trained with chichi and became a super saiyan. Trucks achieved super saiyan by fighting goten and being pushed. It makes since.
@@billqu9479yeah, but way too ahead of Dragonball writing. The perk of Dragonball had always been an outrageous simplicity in the plot and in the abilities of characters. It's not like figuring how the body of Flash can tolerate relativistic speed and still being weaker than Superman. DB is simple. You're strong? You're strong. I think that with the end of the Cell Saga we reached the limit of how much smart Dragonball can get without stopping being Dragonball.
There's documentaries you can look up and find that Toriyama was done after the Android Saga. During it he lost a lot of his creative freedom was overworked and overstressed . After being forced into doing more he intended the Buu saga to make Dragon Ball fail, only the opposite happened. Can't fix what was intended to be broken: the mishandled transformations, killing everyone on Earth just cuz, fights that go nowhere and don't drive the plot forward. All these elements were a storytelling strength Toriyama always had and it was intentionally car wrecked. It took almost 30 years for him to be dragged back to writing again.
My main issue is that Gohan never wanted to fight. He never wanted to be the protector of the earth. He never wanted to fill Goku's shoes. He was never a "true saiyajin" in the sense that he didn't live to fight, train and look for stronger opponents. So making him the main character is hard and seeing that's how you started your own story I'm already not sold on your story.
Holy shit. I'm mad I wasn't paying attention when this was published, this concept is inspiring. There are so many call backs I very much appreciate but can't articulate said appreciation through words!
I'd like to see a rewrite of the Buu Saga where we DON'T have to land where the original did. Any continuity issues with Super could be rewritten in Super; worth it to fix Z's Buu Saga.
Gohan has had way more "trauma" than seeing Goku die which happened before btw (Raditz fight) I mean Piccolo dying right in front of him. Krillin and Dende on Namek, Android 16. Gohan blamed himself but it was a very mature lesson for him to take on as a fighter, to not be arrogant. But even at the end of the cell arc as they're sending Trunks back to the future Gohan is looking at the clouds proud of his father and of himself. I think what the Cell Arc setup is that Gohan is a warrior, he doesn't like to fight however by the end of the Cell Arc he shows that he accepts the responsibility as earths protector.
meh, good effort but i prefer the original story, and i think your story wouldn't have been successful, you removed a lot of comedy scenes and thrilling moments like the wait for Buu's appearance, those are the scenes where Toryama outshines. And you made Goku completely irrelevant in the story, i know you're trying hard to make Gohan the main protagonist, but Goku is and always will be the main character of the franchise, you could have made Gohan the main protagonist of the arc without making Goku completely useless. And that scene where Gohan is almost unconscious and learns Fusion Dance is a bad plot to introduce the technique.
To be fair Goku is pretty useless in the original story as well. I mean after his fight with Vegeta he doesn't really do anything to turn the tables in their favor. Plus the Fusion dance turns out to be a complete waste of time. This super amazing transformation that's introduced in the same story arc doesn't even have what it takes to bring down the main villain. Just entertain them a bit.
@@CombatSportsNerd i have to disagree, whitout Goku they would all have been all dead before Gohan comeback, Thanks to Goku, Buu matured a bit and killed his master, he also was able to stop Buu from looking for Goten and Trunks, untill they are ready, he also teached the kids the fusion dance which, even if not enough to beat Buu, was able to delay his destruction of earth until Gohan came. So Goku was an important plot for the continuation of the story, while in this video he's a complete loser, who did nothing and lost to Vegeta
Wow man amazing 🎉 you are a great writer …. This should be animated again and buu saga must be made like this it made me connected to the characters even more
I like these video ideas and I think you do a great job with it, but I never liked the whole dialog streams and whatnot. An example of what I mean is with the hogan and gotten at the start. It could be summed up with “it starts with gohan reliving his past with cell, then having a candid moment with goten. The dialogue always feels weird to me cuz it’s not like I’m watching the show or anything?
It's merely an exercise in trying to write a different take on a story that was an entertaining cluster-fuck. And he refers to Ernest Hemingway's quote _"the 1st draft aways sucks"_ at the end of his part 2.
I mean, despite all of the Buu data's errors, I still enjoyed Super Saiyan 3. I thought it was pretty cool with the long hair but I don't understand the no eyebrows
The begining of Buu's arc is so funny, I understand it is pointless but is so enjoyable for me, I wish Saiyaman wasn't Gohan but he still was in the DB universe and had it's own slice of life with ridiculous comedy manga, kinda like Dr. Slump, and the conection with DBZ would be Videl (she wouldn't appear in DBZ more than small cameos but still, Mr. Satan's daughter you know)
Bright side of this video: It's brilliant and I'm already invested in this story. Downside of the video: The next week is going to feel like forever XD
The Majin vegeta arc should’ve been left alone in my opinion it was already perfect. I feel like in this story vegeta character was done terribly to have vegeta knock out and nearly kill trunks didn’t fit his character at all and his sacrifice just ended up making no sense and felt rushed. The final atonement part made me feel like you got done with the whole story and as you were about to finish you just remembered vegeta sacrifice and just plugged it in there
His use of Gohan having PTS is immensely satisfying. It gives me goosebumps and makes the character feel real. He was fucking 11 and watched his dad die and his friends beaten nearly to death.
With the addition of of more downloads which removes the ability for bad internet to possibly happen the Internet being Gohan becoming Vegeta when turning SSJ2

characters like krilling and yamcha that are not strong enough to face enemies like buu could still be used evacuating people, or raising energy shields around common people that were in the way of stray energy beams
@@goncaloferreira6429 For real, stop sending them into the heart of the battle as fodder (or in Goku's case a transformation key, Yamcha is just fodder)
So... he's just like Goku? The protagonist in DBZ who was dead for the majority of the Saiyan arc (but active in other world granted), traveling or healing for most of namek, and in bed for 90% of the android arc until Cell showed up. Seems thematically appropriate to me.
@@jacobg6628 Honestly I just think that because the story is being said out loud in general instead of shown over multiple hours, people finally realize this. Goku isn't present for 98% of DBZ, more like 54% or less, and the rest has him commonly off-planet, dead or sick; if not someone else is the main character for plot purposes anyways.
The only think I disliked here was Vegeta not being able to tell Trunks he’s proud of him. And Piccolo telling him that he’ll end up in hell regardless. That is pivotal to Vegeta’s Sacrifice.
I agree because Vegeta has a choice at that moment and he makes the right one. It marks him as a good guy for the first time. At that point in my eyes Vegeta became a Z-fighter instead of just someone who was sometimes allied with them.
Piccolo telling him he will be in hell regardless made it even better. Vegeta was still fearless knowing that even tho he was going to sacrifice himself he was going to hell. He never did anything for anyone before but finally had reason Todo so knowing he wouldn't be rewarded for it.
Everything in that scene perfectly tied up Vegeta's character arc. He knew there was no reward or way out if he choose to sacrifice himself and ensured not only the safety of his own son but also the safety of Goten. Then, before being, as far as he knee, being wiped from existence, he though of his family and Goku.
Naruto and mha kinda touched in subjects similar to it. And I think even the original dragon Ball would’ve done something like that near its end. But now in this super era, they wouldn’t even try to do anything as real as this.
XBLspartanx170 In Naruto there has been a few characters who had intense PTSD like Kakashi, Itachi and a few others. Also shown a few times in MHA with Todoroki and at times Midoriya Fairy Tail with examples such as Gray, Erza, Jellal and Kagura HunterXHunter with Gon and Killiua during the entire Chinera Arc And many others I can’t think of at the moment
Goku had nightmares about having his family killed in front of him while dealing with his heart disease, Gohan had to remember those killed by Freezer to turn into Super Saiyan, this wouldn’t seem that far off if done properly.

@@DontCallMeAaron I must say that at least with Gohan in the Freeza arc, it played into how Gohan would later develop as a character especially in the Cell arc. One problem, you can’t cut out the scene where vegeta embraces trunks. It was some major character development for vegeta and makes his sacrifice even more emotional.
Edit: Also piccolo saying that he won’t end up in heaven adds to the sacrifice
Agreed. I understand why he made the change to fit his story, but that scene is perfection.
I agree, keep the sacrifice. Could use the following approach to fit in with the proposed story.
Vegeta should have told Trunks and Goten to take Gohan into the time chamber to save him, whilst having the humility to say that Gohan was Earth's only hope. *echoes of cell saga*
Vegeta does this whilst fighting buu single-handed, in order to buy them time to get into the chamber. As Trunks stands at the door, Vegeta says something to Trunks about how proud he is of him and how he is going to miss seeing him grow up.
Then Vegeta blows up the door before finally sacrificing himself up on the lookout.

@@PrinceSilvermane and regardless of Dragonballs, he'd seen his dads corpse at age 4, seeing anybody dead at that young age would traumatise you, and doubly so if it was the father you idolised.
then, add into that his being Kidnapped by Piccolo, regardless of how, in later life, he looked up to Piccolo, that would just add to the mess.
then, add to that watching Yamcha, Tien and Chaotzu get murdered by Nappa (Yamchas death probably being the most traumatic, because, after thinking he'd won, Yamcha got blindsided), and then, Piccolo sacrificing himself to save Gohan, and, once again, somebody he is close to dying right in front of him.
then add him having his neck broken by Recoome on Namek, on top of watching an entire species getting murdered by the space mafia, then Krillin dying in front of him.
then you get the androids, who are hunting down his seriously ill father, to kill him, in Gohans mind, just because, and made even worse by him being surrounded by death at every turn as Cell wipes out entire citys, men, women and children, hundreds of thousands of them.
then Vegeta letting Cell reach his perfect form, and, after that, his father, the man who is supposed to protect him, not only making him fight cell, but, giving Cell a senzu bean just before they fight.
and then, his dad dies, again, and, this time, refuses to be wished back
how in the hell is Gohan not a gibbering wreck by the start of the Buu saga? or a sociopath, who has been desensitised to death and suffering, who, after seeing so much death, feels that there is so little point in anybody being alive that he thinks that peoples lives are meaningless (frightening when you consider that, just a few days before his father comes back, he is literally the single most powerful creature on the planet)

My only tiny nitpick is that by removing Trunks from the situation _before_ Vegeta sacrifices himself also removes the hug they shared, which I feel weakens his realization that he needs to be a better father.

Loool it happened to me too
In short, not bad so far.

But he shouldn't have it its been seven years!
@@leonardofarias8843 PTSD can be weird. In some cases it can take years for symptoms to appear. I do get your point though.

@@leonardofarias8843 That's why he changed it, so he didnt. He pretty much killed his dad. That can affect people for their entire lives.
(Hopefully you see the mistake now)
3) Taking away the SSJ forms from Goten and Trunks... ALL you've done is taken the intrigue away from the training scenes. Without this shock revelation the audience's interest level doesn't ramp up. (How can they transform so young?!! How strong are they? etc...)
4) The energy draining scene is poor.
Nailed it for me really, even as a fan of Gohan, I just can't get around this at all
Bluh Bluhhh k I agree with what your saying but with the time it took you to type ALL of that you should’ve been able to see all of it
Taking away SSJ from Goten and Trunks is something I am 100% behind.

*”this is canon to me”*
"Had us in the first half not gonna lie."
I’ve been waiting for you to make a story
Next. Goten being a super saiyan makes since. He was conceived while goku was a super saiyan. He spared with trucks alot who was being trained by vegeta. Also he trained with chichi and became a super saiyan. Trucks achieved super saiyan by fighting goten and being pushed. It makes since.
I’m glad you’re using Gohan as the main character, he should’ve been the main character from the Buu saga all the way through and kept his power.
Toriyama was completely improvising his entire manga.
I liked it when I was younger but now I don't understand how it could have been so successful...
Ho
Ly
*FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*
Is it bad that I now want Gohan with these flashbacks? This would be amazing to see in the show.
Other thing the gohan training episodes with goten and videl are some of my most memorable especially how he trains videl. I love that.
Yeah, but like mark said it doesn't effect the end of the arc at all
Did any body else get a commercial sfter he described Gohan's flash back, when he said " everything goes black"?....perfect timing
Gohan with PTSD?! Oh, it would have been very cool, but way too elaborate for Dragonball.
Riccardo Leone I’m fine with that. I like it a little more realistic
Dude you made Gohan like fckn 90's Broly
Far from it
Holy shit. I'm mad I wasn't paying attention when this was published, this concept is inspiring. There are so many call backs I very much appreciate but can't articulate said appreciation through words!
Totally Not Mark make a a new Buu Saga.
*FMA Op 4 in the background*
"Keshite!!!! REWRITE.."
I can’t tell you how much I was following you!!!! This is great !
Dude that moment with gohan inches from punching goten gave me chills. Great add
Leaving out Vegeta hugging Trunks takes a lot away from his sacrifice.
meh, good effort but i prefer the original story, and i think your story wouldn't have been successful, you removed a lot of comedy scenes and thrilling moments like the wait for Buu's appearance, those are the scenes where Toryama outshines.
This should be animated again and buu saga must be made like this it made me connected to the characters even more
10:59 Are we just gonna ignore how good that Babidi impression was?
I like these video ideas and I think you do a great job with it, but I never liked the whole dialog streams and whatnot. An example of what I mean is with the hogan and gotten at the start. It could be summed up with “it starts with gohan reliving his past with cell, then having a candid moment with goten. The dialogue always feels weird to me cuz it’s not like I’m watching the show or anything?
I like this story. sounds like you put a lot of thought into this. and i like how goku plays a more minor roll. well done
I’m sorry but this just does not feel like dragon ball
It's merely an exercise in trying to write a different take on a story that was an entertaining cluster-fuck.
And he refers to Ernest Hemingway's quote _"the 1st draft aways sucks"_ at the end of his part 2.
Yknow, sometimes i forget Goten and Gohan are brothers. You almost never see em in the same scene since the beginning of the Buu arc.
I don't want anything about the slice of life stuff in the beginning to be removed. Honestly my favorite part of the Buu arc lol
"I always come back"
And that's how Pan was born
I mean, despite all of the Buu data's errors, I still enjoyed Super Saiyan 3. I thought it was pretty cool with the long hair but I don't understand the no eyebrows
Dragon Ball = 7/10
Dragon Ball Z = 6/10
Dragon Ball Super = 4/10
Dragon Ball GT = 3/10
Super Dragon Ball Heroes = 1/10
Dragon Ball Evolution = 💩/10
i'd say this is pretty accurate. I'd only raise dragon ball to 8
The begining of Buu's arc is so funny, I understand it is pointless but is so enjoyable for me, I wish Saiyaman wasn't Gohan but he still was in the DB universe and had it's own slice of life with ridiculous comedy manga, kinda like Dr.
Gohan was unconscious so many times man😂😂
"BYYYEEEEEEEE SOOOOOOOOON"
*I like the changes but i really wouldn't change Goten and Trunks SSJ ability just to see Vegetas face at the original time🤣🤣*
The Majin vegeta arc should’ve been left alone in my opinion it was already perfect. I feel like in this story vegeta character was done terribly to have vegeta knock out and nearly kill trunks didn’t fit his character at all and his sacrifice just ended up making no sense and felt rushed. The final atonement part made me feel like you got done with the whole story and as you were about to finish you just remembered vegeta sacrifice and just plugged it in there
"Gohan needs to be the main character"
*silence*
Gohan fans: Don't do that, don't give me hope .
Lmaaaoo
That's how I feel
When he says it and you truly have a pause in your heart
I wasn't expecting to tear up when I clicked this video..
His use of Gohan having PTS is immensely satisfying. It gives me goosebumps and makes the character feel real. He was fucking 11 and watched his dad die and his friends beaten nearly to death.
"This is Gohan's story"
*Gohan proceeds to spend most of his own story unconscious.*
Goku spent most of the Buu saga dead tbf
On Namek Goku showed up just to be put in a healing pod for days.
Like father, like son
Exactly. Gohan is a garbage character. He shouldn t even exist.
scalping forever fuck you, your favourite character shouldn't exist
If I was Bill Gates Rich I'd fund this entire thing with MadHouse/Bones style animation and choreography! Outstanding work
*chefs Kiss*
JaxBlade
crazy you say that cause Toei right now could do better with the right scheduling
Mad house just woudlnt work for Dragon Ball.
shintani's designs are perfect, we wont get Shida working for madhouse though
Notice me, Jax-senpai!
America Eagle That too
"Everything goes black. Gohan imagines a UA-cam premium ad where he learns that he can watch his favorite videos ad free and uninterrupted."
With the addition of of more downloads which removes the ability for bad internet to possibly happen
the Internet being Gohan becoming Vegeta when turning SSJ2
Except... It's not actually free. Gohan wakes up from the nightmare to a sudden and powerful panic attack. He then falls to the ground, unconscious.
Want a break from the ads?
I love UA-cam Premium
Gohan has a vision of Raid Shadow Legends
My favorite part was when Goku ran out of time at the worst possible moment. Good job, man.
That was both a hilarious and an amazing way to pile on the tension
Thanks for spoiling.
@@sparkist95 Your fault tbh
Sparkist why would you read the comments before watching the video lol
@@infinitekakashi1234 Because why wouldn't you
Gohan's Great Sayiaman idea came from childhood trauma related to his encounter with the Ginyu Force.

I think one of the DBZ games says that Gohan got the idea from reading superhero comics

This is the best best comment. You get a gold star.
the dbz narrator died he was the best
@@MrMereum I'm assuming that you're talking about the late Jose Lavat (the narrator for DBZ's Latin-American Spanish dub), aren't you?
@@MrMereum Uh... Which narrator? Because I know that the one for the FuniMation dub, at least, is still alive.
@@TwistedChungus
Funimation's was Kyle Herbert, same voice actor as Adult Gohan.
Did.. Did you just stealth remove Krillin from the Buu Saga?
Lmao
characters like krilling and yamcha that are not strong enough to face enemies like buu could still be used evacuating people, or raising energy shields around common people that were in the way of stray energy beams
@@goncaloferreira6429 For real, stop sending them into the heart of the battle as fodder (or in Goku's case a transformation key, Yamcha is just fodder)
Oh lord I didn't even notice

Gohan awakens from being unconscious....
*Gohan is then knocked out....*
Outstanding move
Ikr I'm like what?
Flawless Victory!
Worst writting in the entire video, he must have his reasons let's hope what follows is good
*DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODGE!*
90 percent of gohan’s story is him being unconscious
I guess the Kanassans were right... "GOHAN IS THE STRONGEST IN THE UNIVERSE BUT STILL CAN'T DO CRAAAAAAAP"
So... he's just like Goku? The protagonist in DBZ who was dead for the majority of the Saiyan arc (but active in other world granted), traveling or healing for most of namek, and in bed for 90% of the android arc until Cell showed up.
Seems thematically appropriate to me.
@@jacobg6628 Honestly I just think that because the story is being said out loud in general instead of shown over multiple hours, people finally realize this. Goku isn't present for 98% of DBZ, more like 54% or less, and the rest has him commonly off-planet, dead or sick; if not someone else is the main character for plot purposes anyways.
@@jacobg6628 yeah pretty much

Manni Live Exactly. And what Piccolo said as he was flying off with Krillin _“For the first time, Vegeta is fighting for someone other than himself.”_
Yeah
Everything in that scene perfectly tied up Vegeta's character arc. He knew there was no reward or way out if he choose to sacrifice himself and ensured not only the safety of his own son but also the safety of Goten. Then, before being, as far as he knee, being wiped from existence, he though of his family and Goku.
Gohan having PTSD from the cell saga.... hooo boy thats a bit too real for a shonen anime.
Naruto and mha kinda touched in subjects similar to it. And I think even the original dragon Ball would’ve done something like that near its end. But now in this super era, they wouldn’t even try to do anything as real as this.
XBLspartanx170
In Naruto there has been a few characters who had intense PTSD like Kakashi, Itachi and a few others.
Also shown a few times in MHA with Todoroki and at times Midoriya
Fairy Tail with examples such as Gray, Erza, Jellal and Kagura
HunterXHunter with Gon and Killiua during the entire Chinera Arc
And many others I can’t think of at the moment
Goku had nightmares about having his family killed in front of him while dealing with his heart disease, Gohan had to remember those killed by Freezer to turn into Super Saiyan, this wouldn’t seem that far off if done properly.
@@federicoarmada8775 and done more consistently

WHAT ABOUT MY BOI TRUNKS
@@DontCallMeAaron I must say that at least with Gohan in the Freeza arc, it played into how Gohan would later develop as a character especially in the Cell arc. Goten still, even in Super, has done nothing of significance. He's nearly on par with Chiaotzu in terms of relevance. Even kid Trunks had a moment in knocking some sense into his future self when it came to protecting Mai. Goten needs much more than he's been getting since his intro.
