I laughed when you said you were giving yourself 30 minutes to learn to pipe a rose on a nail head! I learned in high school at a vocational school. I learned to make roses after about 18 months. Some of the fellow students never learned, even after 3 years. You did really well for a first go round. You could practice on icing roses and put them on a sheet tray. I use kid scissors to get the roses off the nail. It's like cutting them off the nail or paper only you only partially "cut " the rose off. Pretty soap!

Thank you Helen! I gave it a go and want to learn how to make other flowers too. I think folks talk themselves out of trying new things in life in fear of possible failure. For me, failure is not lack of success, but lack of required action. :)

Amazing effort on the roses! Congrats. :) So much fun playing with new ideas and techniques. Tip: the bakers use scissors to pick up the piped flowers from the paper and for placing them on the cake, well soap in this case.
Thank you Corry! What I'm doing since this video is making roses, chrysanthemums and other flowers a day or two ahead of time. Then I don't have to worry about what the batter in the mold is doing. I just put the soap flowers on top of the batter or on the cupcakes. So much better than what I did in this video. And thanks for the tip: I've seen it done and might try it with cake decorating--some day.

very very pretty to be the first time. How long you leave the soap bar before you put the flowers? do you protect the soap bar from ash in the meantime? thanks
Thank you for watching Guadalupe! :) For those roses I put them in the freezer or refrigerator for a few minutes while I put the batter in the piping bags for the leaves and the white flowers. Then I quickly put the roses on the top of the soap while the soap was still sticky. Soda ash doesn't happen that fast--thank goodness. I use less water (water discounting) which helps prevent soda ash from happening--about 99% of the time--for me.
Not too bad...I have done cake decorating & after retiring I am doing soaping. You did well. After your initial bud, try lowering your piping hand to get closer to bud base and thus flair the petal lip out more. I usually do one very very tiny tap when done, to help the petal lip to come over & down some to look more realistic. You might wait till you try a few more times first. Very nice top with the little accent flowers. Kudo to you :)
So glad you taped it. I love your videos & creativity in color choice. I guess I put that wrong. I just meant that after the bud and a few petals, lower your piping hand a little bit more, this tends to attach the petal to the base firmly and allows the outside top edge of the petal to slightly lower like a rose does. I wouldn't tap the whole rose just slightly till you get better at it, is all I was suggesting. Please excuse me, sometimes it isn't easy to type on this thing :) I so enjoy watching you soap & hope that I made a little bit of sense.
That looks so BEAUTIFUL, I have not a lot of patience for piping my soaps at all, I make some small flowers etc on the tops. That must have taking you all day to pipe..lol love love the colors you had chosen for the top of the soap.. again BEAUTIFUL soap :)

Yes, that is true and I do that now, but as that was my first time making them I thought I did a dang splendid job without cutting limb or a toe with that tiny knife. lol :) However, I was creating the roses the way cake decorators do. Pipe the stiff frosting on the nail head and transfer the rose to the cake. I appreciate you stopping by and watching the video. I hope you are safe during this virus outbreak. Hugs xxx
Beautiful! I just cannot pipe soap. I've tried again and again, but either the soap gets too hot to handle. or it seizes in the bag, and the last one turned out really gritty. I'll keep trying. Thanks for sharing!
BEAUTIFUL!!! Im learning how to pipe, but was doing it with cake frosting first before I try with soap, but I guess cake frosting is so soft and Im struggling a bit. I'm going to have to make a small batch of soap to practice on instead of cake frosting. lol YOU DID EXCELLENT!!!
Thank you Acelia for your kind words! Although I did not practice with cake frosting, if you do want to practice there are recipes for stiff buttercream frosting. However, I just decided to jump right in there and use the same batter but just waited until the consistency was thick enough so the rose petals would stand up. Hello, your soap is so beautiful for the first time it's very good. the only thing I want to ask is if a mixture for the flowers is the same with soap and at what temperature is it, I hope you will answer me, thank you
Thank you for the compliment! To answer your question: I use the same soap batter for what's in the mold as well as the flowers I pipe. The batter needs to sit for a while--sometimes up to an hour to achieve the thick consistency to hold the shape of a rose or chrysanthemum. My oils and lye liquid are around 80 to 85 when I combine them. Happy soaping! :)

Maybe in the summer months, but as I live in the Pacific Northwest :) my oils and lye are at 60 to 65 degrees after making them the night before, so I warm the oils in the microwave for a few seconds, and put the lye container in a pail of hot water for a short bit. There are soaping videos on UA-cam with no talking, only music, they are short, fast-paced pieces which gives the viewer a sense of entertainment--which is perfectly fine if that is what you are looking for. I do a lot of talking because I explain, teach, don't mind sharing my mistakes, and share advise to guide new soapers in their cold process soap journey. :)
Señora Merlano, con todo respeto, si no le gusta ver videos donde la persona habla, entonces baje el volumen o de lo contrario no vea el video. /// Ms. Merlano, with all due respect, if you dont like to watch videos where the person is talking, then you can either lower the volume or simply dont watch it.
