Tiya Dely's Theme - La Bella Filipina (Florante Aguilar)

A tribute to the heyday of Philippine radio when they used to play traditional Filipino music. Tiya Dely (Fidela Magpayo), a pioneering radio broadcaster, championed kundiman and harana music in her shows, even amidst the domination of American music in the Philippine airwaves. I can only wish for such a radio personality today!
Tiya Dely is considered the First Lady of Philippine Radio, with her career spanning nearly seven decades.
The music was written by Ignacio Massaguer, a Spaniard who emigrated to Manila in the late 1800s where he set up a music shop. He was also an active musician and teacher.
The arrangement you hear during the Tiya Dely show is by Juan Silos. It's quite beautiful, the strings lush with a splash of guitar. I believe Silos also arranged another version with orchestra, this time with the rondalla. You can hear both versions in her show.
