So, I think you aren't getting who this camera is for. It is not for the average consumer. It's not for film photographers who want to just play around with some movie film. It's not meant to be an alternative to the cheap 8mm cameras sitting around on eBay. It is meant to be a camera for professionals, for rental houses, for art students to loan from the University etc. You even missed its most unique (and expensive) feature in an 8mm camera: Crystal Sync. You might not know that HBO recently shot Winning Time using among other cameras, brand new Pro8mm cameras with a Max8 gate. Those will set you back $3500 a piece, and they bought multiple. They don't have a digital viewfinder tap or Crystal Sync either. If you want to get them to custom mod in crystal sync, you end up spending this much or more. On a camera that isn't from Kodak. This will sell out, because it will be produced in limited numbers. It will sell to movie studios that produce artistic films, to have that 8mm look when they need it. It will sell to some wedding videographers who like to do the vintage look and feel (and it will pay for itself in a few bookings). It will sell to rental houses, and it will sell to art schools with film departments. It is not meant for you. It is not meant for me. It is not meant for a casual consumer. It is not meant for someone just looking to have fun. It is meant to be the most professional 8mm camera ever made, and that is what it is, and it will sell to many, many people and institutions who do professional and art work on 8mm.

Kodak, as a monopolist in films, decided to earn extra money on a purely marketing camera, although it could have earned more by releasing a thoughtful adaptation of the movie camera in terms of design and parameters related more to the film, which would significantly reduce the price and attract a lot of fans of the Super 8 format.

I am studying business at Durham University in England and writing a marketing analysis about Kodak right now. This video was super useful to me, thanks a lot, man!

The topic of my essay is a marketing plan for a fictional product that Kodak would release. It is a 35mm film point and shoot camera that has a second digital sensor and optics that emulates the photo about to be taken before exposing film.

That's about the best comment I could ever hope for on a video. Good luck on your paper!

@@jeremydeihl Thanks man, I really wish Kodak would get out of this situation. But it won't happen with products like you covered in this video.

This reminded me that I bought a Chinon Sound Super-8 camera and projector in 1991 2nd hand for 20 quid each..unfortunately it eventually died, projector still works. I bought several others after but they usually had some fault that was only apparent when I got the film back 😕

in your video you said the camera should be sold as a loss leader in order to sell more film reels. What you don't seem to be aware of is that kodak went bankrupt a long time ago. The kodak brand name was sold off to someone else and the company that makes the film reels is a separate company. Unless the kodak film company buys out this other company or pays them a load of money to subsidise the cameras then this isn't going to happen.

You forgot lawyers & dentists.... with Leica's wanting one of these! Guaranteed I will see one in that "Photos with Santee Clause" line at Southpoint Mall. 😂
Sterling Pharmaceutical is still Kodak's biggest disappointment. That and not making Verichrome Pan their #1 B&W film 😞
