Zweihander vs. Estoc | Knight Fight at a frozen Waterfall

    • Lurking Shadows
    The footage is from an early modern quarry whose small waterfall is frozen into ice stalagmites. At the foot of a small stream, a duel is taking place between two armour fencers with two-handed swords. My equipment corresponds to models from 1485, my friend Niklas uses armour and armament from the 16th century and a Gothic Schaller.

    I have a theory that cod pieces evolved out of a desire to not get dick stabbed. I dont have any evidence to support this other than the fact that codpieces meant to be worn with fullplate exist, and it'd make sense imo. Even with one with less thick material usually they're so structured yet flimsy it'd be hard to get a good stab in on em

    Knights used to suck at MMA. This is why Samurai were superior. Just do a double leg takedown then use your dagger. Samurais knew how to Judo.

    • @deimos39
      @deimos39 7 місяців тому +4

      1: Samurai did not do martial arts. They fought blade against blade, they practiced something called "honour" - which I assume might be a new concept to you.
      2: You see what they have to do here to even land a *possibly* fatal blow. You can't just "do a takedown" against a fully, properly armoured opponent.
      3: Before we even consider either of those points, there is no comparing Samurai and medieval Knights. The battlefields they fought on, the cultures they lived in - wholly different from one another.
      In short, please - educate yourself before you make a take this banal.

    • @darthplagueis13

      Lot of things that work well in MMA become quite dubious when both opponents are wearing 40 lbs of steel.
      Knights knew a thing or two about martial arts, but the emphasis was mostly on wrestling. Punches and kicks and throws all are rather ineffective against an armoured opponent, but wrestling could help put you in a position where you would be able to ram a dagger into a sensitive gap.
      Samurai combat did not involve Judo. Their main weapons, depending on the period, were long polearms or bows, so a fight between them would take place at a further distance.
      Also, Judo was developed in the late 19th century, long after the time of the Samurai. They would have had an early form of Jiu-Jitsu if they saw fit to train in unarmed combat.
