  • On May 1, acclaimed Iraqi author Ahmed Saadawi gave a lecture at Rutgers University. Saadawi is a renowned novel­ist, journalist, and documentary filmmaker. His novel, Fran­kenstein in Baghdad, won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction award in 2014. Its English translation was on the 2018 Man Booker Award shortlist. During this event, Ahmed Saad­awi shared his thoughts on the state of Iraqi and Arabic fiction since 2003 and the challenges facing writers in the region today. The lecture is followed by a Q&A session with the audience. This event was organized by Amir Moosavi (Rutgers-Newark) and facilitated by Khaled Al Hilli. It was sponsored by Critical Studies of Iraqi project, based at Rutgers-Newark.
