  • Dr Louise Bennett-Coverley described as the "Bob Marley of folklore", "The Mother of Jamaican Culture" and "Jamaica's First Lady of Comedy", a "Living Legend" and a "Cultural Icon". Miss Lou brings to you the essence of Jamaican culture in what is a joyful, educational, playful and comical performance that leaves you feeling uplifted - YES M' DEAR!
"Miss Lou taught us to love ourselves and not to be ashamed of our language. Language is an index of power and identity. If we think our language is unworthy, we think ourselves unworthy. And don't come with any nonsense about whether we must choose Patois over English or whether we don't need to learn English." Jamaican Gleaner.
The concert has been edited by On A Level Productions for the On A Level talkshow, be sure to purchase the original (unedited) version online.

Ultimately she taught us to respect our own culture. We all know before her all the foreign things were thought of as better than Jamaican. Now we have our own language, music and culture, that is loved by almost all people around the world.

Many West Indians were the core laborers of the Panama Canal during the construction days and they left their culture solidly in the Isthmus, where it grounded with the local and impacted immensely. Miss Lou has always been an impact with her Auntie Roachie stories that reached Panama around the 70s and we relive every bit of it on this marvelous piece you have posted. Many thanks for the knowledge and laughter.
