  • Building The Coolest DIY Custom Sliding Barn Door With Frosted “Glass”!
    I wanted sliding barn doors with frosted glass for my new home office, but a short ceiling and a weird shaped door call for a custom build! So, I created these sliding bypass barn doors with frosted “glass” with the help of my friends at DAP Products!
    Also, shoutout to DIY Danie for flying all the way to Long Island from Toronto to help me finish my office makeover! Go give her some love!

    I think the doors turned out perfect.❤️
    I love that you didn't make them solid black. By adding the frosted panels the natural light from the window gives the illusion of a more open larger space in that corner. I have worked with the spray frosting before and I learned quickly that spraying very thin/ even coats and making sure they are completely dry in between, will give the best results. Yours look amazing.
    Great job, Sam, you get the gold ⭐😀
    Shoutout to DIY Danie for being such a great friend.🌺

    I feel like it might look cool to have coloured lights inside the closet so it shines through the frosted panels👀

    I made a sliding barn door for my laundry room at my wife's request and I have a (2 Pcs) ¼ inch thick plexiglass for a center window in which I used orbital sander to sand the back sides of plexiglass n sandwiched then together. No frost paint and it looks evenly frosted. My wife was extremely happy and she tells me that she gets nothing but complements on door... Maybe you can try that method on a future product.😊😊

    The doors are BEAUTIFUL. I would like to do this throughout my house. I think it would also look great in the garage to cover all the stuff I've accumulated! I think I'll start there! You're so much fun to watch and you make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing!!!

    I was looking at doing something almost identical for a sliding French door separator between our dining room and den. When looking at doors I saw that they were upwards of $1000! Thinking I might have to go your route here.

    You can also just apply a frosted glass film to the acrylic instead of spray paint

    If you use a thicker plexiglass you can cut it with the table saw or track saw and the edges won’t break. If you don’t want the thin acrylic to break when cutting, wedge it between 2 sacrificial pieces.

    • @diyhuntress
      @diyhuntress  7 місяців тому

      The thinner ones cut okay on wood blades too! Just didn’t want the doors to be too heavy. Thanks for the advice about the wedges!

    My wife has been on me to do this for our master bathroom fir years. This is one of the better and simpler videos I've seen on how to do it. Would like to know how you fixed the frosted glass issue u had....thanks girl!

    • @diyhuntress
      @diyhuntress  7 місяців тому +1

      Ahh! This makes me so happy! I added more frosting. But, they make a film that seems much easier to apply evenly that I found after making this that I’d recommend looking into!

    Awesome project! A while back, I used a frosted glass spray (don't remember the brand) but I didn't really like the finish either, so my wife and I opted for a different route and I just sanded the back of the acrylic piece with like, 220 or 320 and it came out amazing, plus the surface was super smooth, with no swirl marks or anything.

    • @diyhuntress
      @diyhuntress  7 місяців тому +1

      Yesss! I love thisss. I thought about this too. I still am not completely in love with the finish. Maybe I’ll sand down the panels!
