Open games VS closed games. End game theory. Common mating patterns with king and queen, king and rook, etc. Also the value of the pieces relative to a single pawn. Queens worth 9 pawns, rooks worth 5, knights and bishops worth three pawns etc..

AJ must be ranked less than 1000 in chess, when you ask your opponent "where did you move" 5 seconds later then my advice is to play someone of the same level, chess and boxing are all about levels
He will probably be about 850-900 maybe.. most average people will start around 600-700 at a guess. Strong club players you're looking at 1600-1950 maybe even upto 2000. Tournament players 2000+ if its a decent level tournament. National Masters 2100+ IM 2400+ GM's 2600 >
