Raven, I swear your parenting is wise beyond your years. You seem much older than your age when it comes to raising Ziya, and if I didn’t know better I would think she was your 2nd or 3rd child. You were literally made to be her mother and I just love your parenting and how your raising her. Definitely learning a lot from you 💖

2022, I agree 100% no sugar coating. When it comes to living, taking care of business, and her daughter she is on point. What Raven have accomplished after her pregnancy. Enough said. Raven may think she's not perfect, however, she's getting the job done. 😀

I just wanna say that I really appreciate how you work with Ziya on her eating! I grew up an extremely picky eater, ate maybe about 5 things in total. My parents would trick me into eating things and then would laugh when I said I like it, and so I became scared of trying new foods. And they would yell at me and not let me leave the table until I finished- which would sometimes be hours long. Even today, though I’m 18 now I still am picky and have super severe food anxiety (I’m diagnosed with ARFID). I never eat in front of people or go out to eat at restaurants. So I just wanna thank you for not making Ziya feel bad about what she eats or how she eats it, and for instead encouraging her to enjoy the food she tries. You’re genuinely such a great mother

I grew up similarly but my case is not as severe. I'm 22 years old now, still picky but willing to try new things and if there is something I don't like, I try to cook it differently next time.

I agree with you!!!! Most parents would force their kids to finish their plate!!!! Raven attempts to feed her kid new foods. If she doesn’t eat unlike other parents who say: if you don’t eat then you get nothing: Raven caves in and gives her child things that she will eat because it’s better than going to bed on an empty tummy. And when Ziya does eat new food she congratulates her and says: good job. That’s a big girl!!! You finished your plate!!! And she questions her child: so what was your favorite thing on your plate and what wasn’t your favorite thing. She also gives her child a chance to have a say!!!! Raven is a wonderful mother and shows us the perfect ways to get a picky eater to eat without having a mealtime meltdown.

Being realistic helps parents who are really struggling. Everything being perfect sometimes adds more stress to people who are looking for help. Slow introductions to new foods are great but that worry of them starving is real. I used to be a nanny and I'd always wonder how they functioned on so little food.

Here’s a few tips I use for myself and for my picky eating:
    • ask what something tastes like before hand! If trying something, sometimes the fear and the automatic dislike comes from not knowing what the food will taste of before hand. So being aware of what you’re coming into helps to settle some of that anxiety
    • helping to cook! As you mentioned in the hello fresh section, being able to see what goes into the food and how it’s made can help
    • start super small. Something I found helpful for myself, in order to get used to sauces (something I still struggle with) was to start with dips for fruit! I made whipped cream, cooked down strawberries, and others. Fruit is something I’m comfortable with, and the dips helped to start me on trying new dips in other sections

It takes lots of trials before a child has gotten used to something unfamiliar taste wise. If they don´t get to try it then how will they learn to be ok with even trying new things? The trick is to not give in because a child has been taught that if they refuse they don´t have to taste the food. And to not serve full portions of the new things, but over and over let them taste it in small portions. Sometimes it might be something more complex going on like neuropsychiatric e.g.! It usually takes around 8-10 times of trying the same thing to get used to it for a child. So it’s not about saying ”they didn’tlike it let’s try something new and never this thing again”. It’s also not about different combinations, it’s simply about getting used to that one thing alone (and that could be several different things). And it’s not something people grow out of it follows the person into adulthood, and it’s important for parents to help their child with expanding their pallette due to they are going to be in their body for several decades. Good health is also due to good and healthy food food for the body’s foundation. A child’s brain and body cells need more than white carbs, cheese and meat protein.

I love that you tell Ziya that she "doesn't have to eat the whole thing." Growing up, I remember my mother forcing me to finish my plate and it was slightly traumatic for me lol! It was to the point that I wouldn't eat AT ALL and was SUPER skinny as a child and my mom would have to take me to the doctor, and I got prescribed vitamin supplements! I was a VERY picky eater! So I said to myself that if I have to be forced to eat something I don't want, I will REFUSE to eat AT ALL ! Fast forward to adulthood and now my mom says, "You eat TOO MUCH!" 🤣🤣🤣 Point is, it's good to not force children to eat stuff they don't want. Flexibility is key! 👍

My mother (that adopted me) was the same exact way and I always had a weird thing with meat. I was a kid so I didn't know what veganism or any of that was but I have one vivid memory of her making me sit at the table for 3 whole hours crying because I refused to eat a hot dog. It was that way more often than not. Anything with veggies I'd eat multiple portions of but if meat was present I wasn't eating it. Like you though now I eat A LOT and even meat too! Unfortunately her and I have never had a healthy relationship but I hope you do with yours! 😊

    • @morselsofgold

I like that Raven is telling us the truth and giving us realistic facts about how she prepares her daughter meals and she's not putting on a fraud pretending like everything is healthy and she's getting everything from her garden, because I see a lot of videos like that on UA-cam when the camera is on you see children eating all of this healthy fruits and vegetables but what do they eat when they're not on camera when they're not on UA-cam because some of these parents are giving people the impression that all their children do is eat healthy foods and never eat anything good or exciting that they like to eat, but at least Raven is being real because I know no child in the world is going to want to eat only healthy fruits and vegetables all the time

I love watching you and your baby. She is so cute and smart 😍 I like the way you let her help with cooking. She was learning and bonding with you at the same time. It's fun watching you guys.

Thank you for sharing this! My daughter will be 2 in June and she's so picky. I was running out of ideas to help her eat more foods and this video really helped. And I can't believe Ziya is already 6!!

Thank you for being realistic. I am a mom of 2 and balance is major in my house. I'm still searching for fun, colorful meals but my kids are so stuck in their ways lol

Ziya is the cutest. This video was so helpful. My 11 month old is a picky eater already, so I struggle with giving him anything but formula. Will definitely be trying some of these ideas.

Not gonna lie I fix boards for my dinner all the time. And it looks a lot like the one you made for her!! Only I add mixed nuts and cherry tomatoes. And as odd as it sounds but carrots and peanut butter are good together

My son is a picky ish eater. I don’t force him to eat food he doesn’t like either but I do cut out snacks if he doesn’t eat at least some of his meals!

A salad dressing (Ranch, French) for dipping the veggies or Chick Filet sauce would probably encourage her. Also, I think the cucs need 2 have the skin paired off.

Literally exactly what I do for my sons breakfast ! Switch out waffles and oatmeal too. I work from home so all of this has to be done on the clock so 5min mess are life!
