You ain't kidding. My lifelong best friend and I were our own version of Tenacious D, just not famous and maybe about 25% as talented, lol. He just passed away unexpectedly at 46 years old. A few days later some old studio tracks were found from 2012, and he did this song solo acoustic and I didn't even know about it. It's so good, I swear he sounds better that Jables on it. And now this song and solo literally are HAUNTING me in my sleep, and the melody is already playing in my head when I wake up, it's been happening for weeks now. But I'm going to learn this solo and KGs acoustic solo, and figure out away to insert it into the existing track. When that's done I'll upload it to YT along with some kind of video tribute and see what kind of response we get. He and I will continue to rock, even from the grave.
@@joeblough261 damn. sorry to hear this brother. But yeah man thats the right way.. keep rocking and never stop. im sure he wont either :) stay strong dude
I do not know what the hell just happened. but Holy shit these guys do not know how talented they are .. what is it about Tenacious D that makes their music so awsuuuuum. Love you guys.
This is hilarious. I love this song. You have no idea how many times I've actually blasted this song (the entire "Pick of Destiny" soundtrack, actually) and started fully on singing along. This song is one of my favorites, as well as the actual Pick of Destiny song itself. It's just so funny and actually really fun to sing along to. Makes me feel like a little kid, kinda. The music is really fun too. This makes me want to toss on the movie.
@justishawkins In the studio I don't remember, but live I always use the drive channel on my Mesa Stiletto, and sometimes I'll kick a tube screamer on top of that to cream it up and get a little more sustain.
the last part is just a simple yet tasty, pentatonic run. Its just the octave first and second position in the pentatonic scale starting on 12 fret and ending in the 5th position. Keep practicing the scale and the positions and I promise it will make sense.
So to those wondering about the hybrid picking. You dont necessarily have to do it. Because the bend of the 14th fret g string is the same as the 12th fret of the b string, u can rotate ur play around that instead of confusing yourself by holding on the the bend while capo-ing the 12th fret e and b strings with ur index while moving ur pinky for the 15th fret b string. just play with the e and b string 12th and 15th fret and let go of the bend. might sound cleaner too because of the distortion and to novice players, the bend has to be perfect to prevent unwanted wave of distortion making it sound messy. the bend HAS to be perfectly noted to the b note or else it will be messy. also u dont need to hybrid.. just pick it. im fine with either but found out it sounds waay neater on without the hybrid. also im not that good.
If it weren't for your comment, I never would've realized he was capo-ing during the bend. I've been stuck at this part for the past hour or so, watching it at 0.25 speed over and over trying to figure out what he doing, it was driving me crazy, so thank you.
Go too A KGB concert, he walked around and hugged people. Misses me though, than again he held my hand against his chest and than when I was singing a long he nodded at me. I needed a change of pants.
guitarings should do a video of good affordable every day person guitar amp rigs cause im sure there are other people like me that want a rig set up but not sure whats good for an affordable price i would love an orange amp but its too expensive
Hey KG and Kones! You guys should do something similar to what Candyrat does through the rpoland channel. Put out tabs online and let people buy them, and every now and then you give away a free tab =) Anyways, thank you for being awesome, can't wait to get my hand on the new D album =D
let me know when someone has the patience to watch this over and over and post the CORRECT tabs. I really wanna learn this but Kones is too good to explain it slowly
@Guitarings I love your channel but when explaining stuff for the first time you really need to slow down and do each part a few times in a row so we can actually see how to play it.
you do a B power chord without the pinky just the index and the ring, play the open E string, hit the B the F# back to B open D, hit again the F# and the B and you end up strumming slowly a Em chord sorry i'm 8 years late, but there you go e------------------------------- B------------------------------ G-----------------0----------- D---------4--------4---4---- A------2----2-------2------- E---0------------------------- shit just figured it out i taught you the studio ending not the live one, well good luck with that hahahaahah
Lmaooo thank god I’ve gotten better and can actually tell what’s going on. If I were a noob I would not understand some of the licks lol ah, the sacred passage of time and effort.
I've spent a fucking year from complete novice to a little better to do this fucking solo and I still can't fucking do it, I've improved but it's just that last bit I just can't get it to do the do
Seriously bro? In my rock band I have played 1 hour plus sets. And my country band has to play 4+ hour dances and shit.... Gets brutal as a bassist, playing root fifth all night, not so bad once you're drunk and if there's ladies dancing though.
Hahah I loved his comment at the end, "now that we've taught it, it seems harder."
god damn why is this song so beautiful . the acoustic and e-guitar solo haunts me in my sleep :P

@Guitarings is the electric guitar tuned in e minor too ? , if not whats it tuned to .
What strings is Kones using? They look so soft and mine are good sounding but hard as hell and it hurts to play for more then 1 hour
Can't get the last ones... I don't get those :(
did you use the mesa stilletto aslo for the lessons on this song and beelzeboss?
which guitar is that ;o fucking awesome!
your "super slow" seems to me like "super fast" hehe :P
I so want to learn the last scale.. Someone help me.
Tabs?
let me know when someone has the patience to watch this over and over and post the CORRECT tabs. I really wanna learn this but Kones is too good to explain it slowly

@Guitarings I love your channel but when explaining stuff for the first time you really need to slow down and do each part a few times in a row so we can actually see how to play it.

you do a B power chord without the pinky just the index and the ring, play the open E string, hit the B the F# back to B open D, hit again the F# and the B and you end up strumming slowly a Em chord

is totally harder than acoustic D:
AW YEh 10,000 viewrr ;D
this is a great tutorial but Kones' solo is definitely way harder rofl
why you dont put the tabs? D:
It sounds a lot like what John Frusciante would write
I thought I was only one who thought that.
just seach pentatonic and/or diatonic scales on google and learn them. then almost everything will make sense.
Seriously bro? In my rock band I have played 1 hour plus sets. And my country band has to play 4+ hour dances and shit....
