Saw Ultravox in Boston 1980- 81 I believe. Vienna album. Not many heard of them. The Orpheum Theatre. About a 3000 seater. Half empty. Everybody completely into it. Midge raving about the audience reception. Had crowd members sit on stage with them. About 30-35 people dancing and going crazy. Ultravox music where you wouldnt expect screaming applauding fans. They where fucking great. One of my favorite bands of the 80s. What a band.
I've seen him lots of times around Bath. Never felt quite the right time to speak to him as he has always been shopping with a companion, or getting on his bike! Certainly a modest guy. Geldof was louder I suppose, hence he gets the plaudits!
Because Jones'y has *no fear* of appearing "ignorant", he asks all the questions *we* would ask if there. If he doesn't know something, he asks for clarification. And let's the *answers* flow. Hence, he has the *most intelligent* radio show on Earth. I learned more about Band Aid here than I have since 1984.
What a lovely down to earth genuine chap you are, Midge Ure....with an incredible voice with the ability to play that guitar and make it sing.Just received your 2021 calendar which I purchased for my partner as a surprise gift.Thank you!! X

think he mentioned Rusty Egan as being in the Rich Kids. what's the film with them in it? is it Punk Rock Movie or something? has Midge acting a bit gay while Glen plays an EB-0. might have the Sid'n'Nancy stuff in it too
+David White it was the Rich Kids, playing 'Pretty Vacant'. Midge overacting on stage trying to look all arch and everything but just looked a bit ridiculous! just found it, it was in 'D.O.A.' ua-cam.com/video/Vgv42BhAgRk/v-deo.html

another classic jonesy interview, old mates talking about what happened in the day - midge is often just the 'band aid bloke' or 'him out of ultravox', but he's been so connected to all kinds of classic british music through the years. talking about guitars, i wonder if he still has his grey Ibanez?

I love the iconic guitar stories! Bolland and Ronson! Wow! Always love Jonesy, and Midge Ure is such a lovely man! Plus, it is great Jonesy gets "upset" about them selling the gear he stole! :-)
when i was a kid our ABC in autralia in the early 80s would occasionally show the clip to 'dancing with tears in my eyes' i think right after dr who and just before the 7pm news. that clip scared the shit out of me!
I'm a fan of Ultravox (particularly with Ure on vox) and was fortunate to see him live back in the late 80s (solo tour) in Salt Lake...his band was pretty good and managed to do a good version of Vienna. I loved that period of music and see it as a high watermark... wtf happened?
Midge seems to be a real down to Earth guy? I live in the same city and I have seen him out & about over the years. He's so humble and I'm not sure why he wasn't knighted along with Geldof? Maybe it's because Geldof was a bit LOUDER? Anyway, he deserves just as much credit as Geldof & although the whole honour system is rather corrupt, he deserves the chance to at least say 'No thanks..' to a knighthood. Respect to him and for what it's worth, far more talented than Geldof imo.
Still the biggest disgrace ever this true British legend never received a Knighthood yet Irishman Geldof did even though they both signed away equal shares in the Band Aid singles (which they wrote) and worked as a team all through Live Aid & beyond! Top man in this & Jones is on top form as well.....
@joiganja explain or are you a David Icke type? Please tell & give information that it was a scam? I doubt you can as like many, it's just your view. I think it was no scam and that it was an honest attempt at tackling a situation. I suspect money went missing after being given to certain charities though.
Steve: Do they still have all the old Roman buildings in Bath? Midge should have replied 'no, they've all been knocked down and turned into shopping malls'
The crescent is still there I think they’re Georgian houses, Peter Gabriel used to live there, I don’t know if he’s still located in the bath area though.
It's 'Midge bloody Ure" Classic comedy from Filthy Rich & Catflap, starring Rik Mayall & Adrian Edmonson & Nigel Planer, the journo episode & Midge guests in it also! Talk about Rik Mayall's character taking the piss! Golden comedy from the late 80's! Watch it, brilliant indeed!
Maclaren selling SJ's stolen amps and gear on the sly, and Midge Ure buying one up the other end of Britain in Glasgow, what are the chances of finding that out 30 odd years later. Funny as f$#%, and brings back memories of shady arses from way back who's strokes at the time pissed you off but now are funny.
Ronson's Gibson Les Paul was at the Hard Rock Cafe in Australia for years until a collector by the name of Rick Tedesco purchased it from them....supposedly he later sold it to another collector for a six (6) figure amount!
Midge was present at many pivotal culturally significant music moments.

I haven't heard of them till today. I'm 72 from the U S I've been listening to Jonsey lately and this came up I'm gonna check him out 👍
Midge Ure is so genuinely charming, and funny. Nicest “famous” person I have ever talked to.
I've seen him lots of times around Bath. Never felt quite the right time to speak to him as he has always been shopping with a companion, or getting on his bike! Certainly a modest guy. Geldof was louder I suppose, hence he gets the plaudits!
agree to that. Met him many times now. Always down to earth
Would love to met midge. I was only born in 1984 but fell in love with him from back then
Vienna has gone and life it means nothing means nothing to me.
I love Steve's giggle. Both of these blokes, you could go and have a beer with.
Unfortunately you couldn't have a beer with either of them. Those days for them are well over.

Great episode. Midge really comes across as a top bloke. Him and Steve obviously enjoy each others company
My favorite part is when Jonesy says, in regards to the Pistols...."the band you could've been in"...
LMAO 😂 every time...
Wow, he owns Mick Ronson's guitar and handled Marc Bolan's guitar. Amazing 👏
This was great Steve,Midge is a true gentleman.Legendary tales ,so much fun to hear you both.
Midge is one of the best guests Jonesy's had for ages - really enjoyed hearing the war stories - and they seemed to be enjoying it too - perfect :-)
That was possibly the best interview Jonesy's ever done.
That's your opinion.
Jesus haz saved me 👍😎

Love Steve Jone's interview style . Its like talking to your mate in a Pub , so cool 😎.
I like it too...more a free form conversation peppered with the odd question thrown in
Brilliant interview. Midge has some great stories and you gotta love Steve Jones's honesty.
