Agreed, it's so surreal and it was fun watching the first water-themed spooky adventure. It kind of reminds me of a comedic Paper Mario adventure for some reason but I hope there's more to this series.
Doesn't it feel like there's a hint of Psychonauts in it, too? Or is it the other way around, that is, there's 90s Nickelodeon influence in Psychonauts?
@@leeeroyjenkins555 I was actually gonna say Kablam too but you beat me to it, I think the style of the killer is superior tho, also BB has quickly become one of my favorite characters ever. She needs her own show
Note: I played a previous instalment of this series (Drool of the Killer) a week ago. You can check out the video here: ua-cam.com/video/40z6lTeKUnU/v-deo.html
The art is great, but I think the writing is what really sets this series apart. BB is such a great foil to the surreal, melting world around her, where her co-workers mumble to her through sheets in the break room yet she's more concerned about her inability to make office small talk.
After re-watching this again, I suddenly feel the need for a genre of media in which a person is in a horror setting, but just goes about their business and doesn't even notice the shit going on around them.
Also the Sound Design in my opinion. The background music is just weird enough to work with the scenarios presented, yet somehow nostalgic and familiar. The developer really is a talented person.
I really like this series, it's unsettling and endearing in a way I don't think I've really seen before. And the setting is really interesting, both in what is, and isn't said. It's like a world living through the aftermath of hundreds of keter level containment breaches, and everyone's just kinda used to massive amounts of people, sometimes numbering in the thousands(like with the "thousands dead" tv news being commented on as normal) ending up dead or missing.
I like this developers games, they're so uniquely animated and effort filled. I can't imagine making all my games models by drawing. You can tell how much effort they put into the game just from the quality.
BB's adventures remind of the Gregory's Horror Show shorts. (Both charming and friendly Art-styles with sinister atmospheres) Specifically, This one reminds me of the phone's episode in the original shorts. If you've seen the shorts you know what I mean and if you haven't, then... Imagine, a sentient phone stealing $20 from you so it can get wasted at a bar. Also, your trapped in Limbo, are your slowly losing your memories, and you just wanted to talk to your family again, but that's not important.
I was thinking only yesterday, how absurdly cool it would be to see another game by this developer and look at that! adore this strange world and style of theirs
I suspect, and this is only a theory of mine but I have reasons to belive so, that the creator of this is also the dev of some other indie games like Space funeral adn Goblet grotto, but he is publishing this series in another totally different account for some reason.
I think the idea is that the call center guides the mysterious Killer to people’s houses, then the bodies are left on the beach early in the morning to scare people and get them to buy life insurance. The call center workers wear sheets over their heads so nobody can rat anyone else out.
So this game is a part of a series. That's good to know. The way that this installment in the series is done, it seems like a fusion of Eerie, Indiana; Kafka; and a bit of Lovecraft. It still has that stream of consciousness absurdist style as the other game did. Shame the heroine didn't defeat whatever dark forces were in charge of this ominous telemarketing agency as she did Tammy. At least something saved her from her workplace in the end before it was burned down. I wonder what the significance of that Lovecraftian premonition dream with the tongue on hairy the beach was. Could it be that some other mysterious force saved the heroine through that dream somehow? The eating of the tongue adds new meaning to the phrase "biting one's tongue." The purpose of the agency seems more ambiguous than Tammy's swimming resort empire. It all seems like a surrealist horrific satire of the telemarketing industry, but I'm not sure how. The mysterious workers who cover themselves in bags, and the shadowy figures with red eyes, have sort of a They Live vibe to them. The shadow figures could be the bagged workers unmasked. I wonder what all the surrealist symbols in the game are supposed to symbolize, and what the true story behind the workplace's purpose is. The game seems to be littered with clues as to what is going on. Again, I praise the developer's ability to render a dream into game form, as well the developer's great art style.
