I don’t think most martial artist/fighters understand the makiwara. It’s not the same as a punching bag, or training partner. The way the makiwara is designed, it pushes back on you with the same force you apply to it because of the springiness. If you don’t ground your technique properly, it throws your whole body off. This is a good reason why karate style strikes penetrate so much. The mechanics involved in the training go beyond just making good impact.
@@seizonsha boxers have a lot going for them. I've trained in a lot of martial arts, and have done some, but not a ton of boxing. I'll say this in comparison to karate. Firstly, boxing focuses on punches, which is inherently limiting if you're putting them up against a shotokan practitioner. Secondly, though i'd argue that boxers DO have stronger punches, both because of muscled nature of the boxer and because of their mechanics, I don't think that means they win every time. Power isn't the reason people win fights. If you've been hit enough, you'll know that jab can effect a fight just as much or more than a cross IF you don't see it coming. Karate focuses on timing, balance, and tactics more than a lot of other styles, boxing included (im generalizing of course). Lyoto Machida wasn't a champion for no reason. He's touted as one of the worlds most elusive strikers, and it's not because of boxing. Shotokan teaches how to use specific timing before/during/after attacks are thrown from the opponent to catch them off guard. If you can do that, you'll "shock" the opponent more than just hitting them hard when they can see it coming. If the brain cant prepare for the hit, it hurts more. And that's why his karate style timing has proven him to be historically hard to fight. Please don't get me wrong. Boxing is great. With tons of benefits. But the way the techniques are thrown and the mentality of the head-on approach to combat can be lacking IF their opponent uses such tactics and timing that they're unfamiliar with to disadvantage them. This goes vice versa and for every other martial art as well. Use your strengths to abuse your opponents weaknesses.
@@SenseiNatePlaysPool i agree with what you said. But my original statement is still true. Does Karate teach head movement like boxing? I've done both. lol
@@seizonsha boxers would have an advantage on a boxing match, it's that simple. If there is no equipment and no rules, whoever has the most athleticism and fighting experience will likely win. The best thing about boxing rules and protective equipment is that you can have much more fighting practice.
@@charles_pensamentocritico seems you and your kind never observed the real world. In a fight a real fight not point sparring boxers will smoke karate fighters.
