Excellent video getting straight to the point which is exactly what I was looking for. I currently got first generation bell installed in my front door. And I managed to get second generation, and I’m thinking of moving the first gen to the back of my house. The main reason for that is back of my house is facing busy main road, and second gen is a lot more expensive so I don’t fancy losing big money. 😂
Thanks for posting this video! I have been searching and searching to find why none of the many instructional videos apply to my ring door bell. You explained the difference between 1st gen and 2nd Gen models. You think all around the problem seeing the big picture. Excellent problem solving skills!👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks -good video. Wish you had shown the views with people at the door, for these comparisons, so we could compare face / image quality, which is what really counts (ie: can you see a clear view of the persons face)
Problems my parents never had: 1. Losing their telephones and 2. Having to recharge and/or replace their doorbell batteries. We have to put out a sign out front asking people to knock so they won't stand there trying to ring the doorbell. Some modern conveniences aren't worth the trouble.
I was about to make that comment too. The video resolution makes virtually no difference. From the images it looks to me as if the newer model has a better light meter, that's all.
I want to get one of these but live in a country that they steal everything....what is stoping a thief from ripping the doorbell of the wall and taken it or just removing the battery?
I have had the 1st generation and it was expensive when it first came out and I am not buying the 2nd generation just for those little upgrades when they should have got it right the first time. Go figure!!
What’s to stop someone from stealing everything in your house? Nothing, but they’re on camera doing it and will get arrested. Ring will also replace it for free if stolen, for life
Ashley Davis the ring 2 has the special screws on the bottom of it. If someone were to steal the battery, you’d more than likely have a good 20-30 seconds of footage of them manually removing them that you could use to identify the person.
Anyone got a ring doorbell that runs off battery, they stupidly now only record 30 secs of record, even if you was getting attacked at your door or after 30 secs of not answering the door it wont record, Major problem for our elderly or crime ridden community. We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

There's no way I'm going to carry my mobile phone around with me in the house all the time so it seems to me that advertising something as a DOORBELL when it doesn't have any audible indication that someone has pressed the button is false advertising.
You are truly an idiot... you wire the ring to your original bell located inside the house. It only replaces the doorbell button outside. You can also purchase a wifi digital bell of for some reason you don't have an interior bell...
With the second one can the cover be removed while it's on the wall I asked because doesn't that mean the battery can be removed at any time and disabled or is it scrapped In.
I saw a screw hole in the bottom of the battery port and assumed it required the same “special tool” to remove the battery as gen 1 required to remove the entire unit for charging.
Not a big deal having a removable battery? Its pretty much a game changer as you can have a spare battery and just switch batteries without having to remove the doorbell or wait for the battery to be charged...Missed a valuable point there
Confused. You keep mentioning second generation but the product you are showing is Ring 2. Different model. I'm confused. Second generation does not have removable battery. Whole bell needs to come off.
We should be able to use our own cloud to record to. Forcing us to use rings at a cost per unit at $3 per month is unacceptable! Might be worth it if you give that option after all most people have a cloud nowadays. If not the $30 a year per unit can add up quickly and justify buying your own cloud. So now that amazon owns ring lets hope there listening or at least add this to my prime subscription? I myself am tired of getting fee here fee there and all add up. Come on amazon make this right. Started working once the sun came up. ...So now I have to find a Ring Doorbell Heater.... lol - - - perhaps I'll put a wool sock over it, with a peep hole! ha ha ha
Ring says it should work between -20.5°C to 48.5°C. Most electronics is going to have trouble working at such temperatures except gadgets that are always on so producing a little local heat. Some have reported success with the Nest cameras in the recent extreme cold, and I wonder if it's because they are always streaming and so keeping warmer.

Clear presentation of the facts and examples of the quality of videos between both at day and night! Everything I needed to know! Thanks🎉
Thanks, I just saw your very clear descriptive & straight to the point post.
I appreciate it.
Very straightforward and easy to understand. Wish all videos were like this!! THANK YOU!!

EXCELLENT REVIEW! Short-to the point-side by side visual examples-discussed all of the primary differences. THANK YOU!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I just purchased the first gen model, so it was really helpful to know what to expect.

Thank you. No more googling the vs. you summed it up. 2nd gen for me.
Seems like if you want to just see who is on your porch the first gen would work fine, if you want to see on the street then 2nd gen.
FYI: as of Nov 2020, the 2nd gen is down to $99, and Amazon is offering trade-in value (minimal, but still $10-$15) for the old ones
Just got a one for Christmas. I only need to see what is happening on my porch.
Thanks. Helped me decide which to buy.
Thanks for the detailed review. Made it a lot easier to make a choice between the two. 👍☺
Great review. Always mainly concerned with picture quality. Thank you
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Sir.
Tttttt
So 2nd gen battery can be easily stolen?
Problems my parents never had: 1. Losing their telephones and 2. Having to recharge and/or replace their doorbell batteries. We have to put out a sign out front asking people to knock so they won't stand there trying to ring the doorbell. Some modern conveniences aren't worth the trouble.
I own the original one and the night vision is excellent...very bright...I don't know why yours is like that...maybe a defective item?
Yes I agree and I dont need my doorbell to see across the street. I have cctv cameras that do that.
Actually it's not so much going from 720p to 1080p that makes the difference but the better dynamic range of the sensor.
I was about to make that comment too. The video resolution makes virtually no difference. From the images it looks to me as if the newer model has a better light meter, that's all.
This is much better than short written reviews
Thank u for explaining getting right to the point
surely the first gen has a battery Pack/ 2nd gen you have to dismantle the wretched thing?
I want to get one of these but live in a country that they steal everything....what is stoping a thief from ripping the doorbell of the wall and taken it or just removing the battery?
JP I believe Ring has a lifetime replacement if it is stolen
What's stopping thieves from doing that to any security equipment?
Good review mate. Exactly the info. I needed. Thanks for posting it.
Have the original and it works great, it like nuts buying the latest cell phone when the one last year worked..Zombies fall for anything..
Is the wifi stronger on the gen 2. My gen 1 struggles with a connection sometimes
How long does it take so battery could charge my has 6 hours it hasn't charge yet
Thanks, this really helped me decide which one to buy.
are the backplates the same?
How do you install it and is there a monthly fee for it?
Hello! Can the Ring 2 be installed using the existing (Ring 1) bracket? Thanks!
It comes with a adapter plate so you can use the old holes.
Can you use it without the subscription? I'm just interested in who's at my door when I'm home.
yes
Always hardwire your Ring doorbell, it will not last a yr let alone 6 months on just one charge..
Rock Hash is it hard to do if you have no wiring to begin with
This is comparing Video Doorbell 2 to gen 1 Video Doorbell; gen 2 Video Doorbell was only released on 6/3/20, 1080p for $99.
I have had the 1st generation and it was expensive when it first came out and I am not buying the 2nd generation just for those little upgrades when they should have got it right the first time. Go figure!!
That's like saying the original iPhone should have 11 pro max specs
Did Ring compensate you in any way?
