I think looking at the cards is very important. It takes just a few seconds to glance through them. Are there many open space cards? Many pirates??? Many planets???
With that info in mind, building the spaceship feels more like a programming game. It takes some of the chaos away, but makes more sense.

I've been wanting to try this since the first time I saw it, but other than the app, I haven't had a chance to play it yet. This new version I think will end up in my collection sooner than later. I love that the box got smaller, not bigger. I wish more games had smaller boxes (when not necessary to have a larger one).

As far as the chaotic part goes with the timer, if people prefer you can just play this without the timer, we have found it works fine still.
This sounds like so much fun! Iwill definitely have to give this a try in the future.
I've seen you guys talk about this game a few times, but this review convinced me that I really want to try it!
Great video, much more engaging than watching most of the 'how to play' videos on UA-cam.
Learned it and picked it up at GENCON 2019 (and got to meet the TDT gang). Galaxy Trucker stole the show for us.
The app taught me that there is so much skill in this game.
In 4 plauer I like to take all of the battery modules to deny my opponents any energy to power their modules :) you dont need any cargo if your spaceship is the only one that survives.

Guess I don't need to worry about the 2nd editon, although hearing about expansions makes me wonder

This is an amazing two player game. My girlfriend and I loved it.
Tom is right. I hated this game the first time I played it. After a second try, I love it.
Is there any word on if the two big expansions will be made for this version?

Bought the 1st edition 2 yeara ago. I love it but Tom is right it is very love or hate it. Out of my 2 board game groups 1 likes it 1 really dislikes it lol
Even if you're not sure how this game will fare, at least give it a chance if you know someone that has a copy. I normally don't like games with a real-time aspect. I normally prefer games that have a more calculated strategy, and turn my nose up at games that are "too random"... but, against the odds, this is one of those games that I placed an order for right after my first sitting. It's one of those gems whose total really is greater than the sum of its parts.
I was at my FLGS today and this new edition caught my eye. I then saw the first edition priced nearly double and hesitated. Any reason why I should spend more for the older version?
@@TheMartinChronicles Based on what I saw here, no; essentially the same game. I don't think there's anything factoring into their price model aside from availability, and I really don't think the original run would even be considered a collectors item.

Great apps kill games when the games have a high level of 'logistics', like this one or 'Through the ages'...
Because when you play a game, in the end, you want to play the game, not do the work required by the rules by yourself if you can help it.
I was gonna say, I don’t feel like buying the actual game after the app
@@nshaw1299 Through the ages app is so incredible. I can play 10 games of the app to the app instead of one game with other people . And the AI is really good on hard levels

the main philosophical question is - If the apps like 'Through the ages' were created before the board game existed, and without being known as 'a great app killer for the board game', would they have done as well?
Not sure... :-) so it's weird, perhaps the overly logistical board game has to be invented to get the crowd for it, and then create the killer app for it.
Is there any buzz about expansions ? I think i'd pass in hopes of getting a big box someday.
There is a big box for the old version but good luck finding a copy
@@matthew.strout Yeah, it even was an anniversary edition. The old version is overpriced now as is, so i'm not touching the bigbox anytime soon. Just thought CGE would cash in on the concept once more. I never owned the expansions, but over the years i became sort of a completionist and like to keep my shelves tidy, so i'd rather have one big box than 3 smaller ones. I guess if we hear anything about it, it's gonna be a few releases down the line.

I hated it @ 1st, then played years later with a good explanation & loved it
My biggest problem with the game is that it's very easy to get so good in building ships you are barely in any danger with most of the cards, which is especially irksome when playing with less skilled players whose ships will inevitably desintegrate. Nowadays I can only play the game if I invent severe handicaps, like not even start building my ship before everyone else etc.

Try the rough roads cards online. The game gets really hard but still fun!

damn ... I'm missing one expansion from the 1st edition and was hoping for the 2nd edition. But with the different design, I'm not buying it.

The new title screens are cute! Too bad they were wasted on Galaxy Trucker...
I wish that I could get over the way the game looks. It just looks incredibly ugly to me, to the point that I cannot bring myself to buy it.

Games looks so boring.
Schadenfreude the game. It is hilarious to watch your friends ships fall apart because the event hits the one component that it was't supposed to hit. I have the old version with the expansions, and it is good chaotic fun, it's not a serious game at all. If you play to win, you will not like it. You can mitigate bad luck to a certain extent, but there is still a solid amount of luck in the game.
