Good straightforward advice. I think the simplest drills might be the best because they are so quick to pick up and implement. I've lost count of the number of times I have turned up to focus on drills and technical skills only to quickly switch to just swimming up and down and no doubt reinforcing the errors!
Hey David thank you! Sometimes I do a drill 8 times, where 1 lap is drill and 1 lap is swimming trying to be mindful of what I practiced in the drill, then repeat X 8
Thank you! I agree, tiny changes compounded can make a big difference! In my case it wasn’t a gain in speed, but a gain in smoothness, and being able to swim 3-4K continuous without having to do inhuman efforts
Good little video, I would also add flexibility, take a look at Michael Phelps (even though he is somewhat of a freak ;-)) technic he was not the most macular swimmer but he was extremely flexible, look at his shoulders and arms when he swims. I was lucky enough to learn to swim in Australia at a very young age and it was always very competitive at school, so my technic (by far not perfect) is really efficient but when I go to the pool I do notice a lot of people have horrible technic maybe learned to swim late or just got basic lessons. Like everything I think proper coaching is the key to get better. They can give the drills and exercises you need to progress.
Biggest reason why my Australian mother would like to disown me - I don’t know how to swim 😂 having grown up in Italy lol ! I agree flexibility is very important even just for the reach phase of the stroke, and then being able to generate power from when the arm is all the way extend out front. I struggle with that! Coaching is awesome yes.. I’m thinking of doing a two ore three month intensive when I get access to a pool, maybe with effortless swimming
i moved from the UK to Australia and noted that all Aussies have great technique. good technique is the key to fast swimmimg, you can have all the power in the world but if you've not got technique forget it. watch effortless swimming on yt for great details
@@PatrickDelorenzi 😂😂 yet Italian‘s have had some great swimmers. I remember I got lessons from age 5 to 10 then at school. In school competition was always fierce and inter-school competition was even tougher. Maybe the way it is taken very seriously and living by the ocean 🌊 it’s also a matter of survival.
@@iancollinge2254 True. I find it super hard to find somebody to teach you a good technique. All the 'coaches' I have had in the past are happy to get you to do half a million lengths at all kinds of speed and take my money, but none have said anything about technique. Now I have to get a buddy to film me with a phone and UA-cam to try to get some improvement. The filming is not that easy as they have rules around using cameras in swimming pools. Because of peados and the like.
I think it’s also important to have a triathlon specific coach. I got many lessons in the beginning, and all with different coaches, but they where basically all swimmers.. and triathlon stroke for long continuous distance is very different from a 200m effort!
This was a great watch. It's good inspiration for the video's i'm making.
Keep the amazing content coming. I'm looking forward to the next video!!!
Hey thank you man!

Glad you are feeling better. Helpful video to me.
Hey thank you Mark!
Always such practical sound advice!! Thx🙏👊
🙏 this little fix in my technique was a gamechanger! And the funny thing is it took me so long to actually understand it was happening
thank you for sharing!

Well explained,. All the wee things add up to easier swimming.

Sup homie? Sorry to ask, what paddles would you recommend?
Very useful. Swimming is my weakest part by far. Need plenty of these tips.
Same here 😃 Oh how I wish I had had swimming lessons when I was a kid!! Happy training simo
Wow that was a valuable lesson 😊
Great video
Thank you 😊 Hope my past suffering can be of service

I can highly recommend checking the Effortless Swimming youtube channel. The drills and examples shown are super useful to me.
Effortless Swimming is the man! Happy training Julian
