In spaces that tight, you need to be selective of clutter. So, I figure you'd need an external antenna (a long wire outside would do) for the type of listening you're describing. I'm wondering if there's an app with links to several listening receivers globally for aeronautical HF? (I know there's tons for VHF ATC.) Then you could send the video to a wall mounted screen to add that extra touch. :)
With the curvature of the walls of the aircraft, it would be difficult to install a dish washer. If one was installed, it wouldn’t be possible to put it flush up against the wall, and it would stick out further than the cabinets. With the minimal amount of width for the walkway, it would be a tough fit. Plus, it would be an additional load for the septic system to handle. There would be additional plumbing piping that could be susceptible to freezing, and it would just create more weak points and things that could possibly freeze/clog/break eventually, meaning more maintenance.
Dude, this is sick lol. The view is beautiful, and the 'house' is pretty cozy. I haven't seen the other videos on this, so I was suprised when this popped up. Nicely done and very well crafted, Jon.
For the guest bedroom, why not have the door open the other direction against the wall instead of against the bed? Also I'd install a little shelving unit on the back/side wall over the bed so if they're using the plug to charge a device it's just not on the bed or possibly falling down the side against the wall.
This would classify as my "Dream House" Bravo!!!! So I agree with you that that cockpit needs a flight sim. I look forward to renting this in the Future and Believe it or not when I fly on my flight Sim at home, the DC6 is my favorite aircraft to fly! 👍🏼
What does it look like at night? Do the exterior lights/landing lights operate? Cockpit illumination? Can you get asphalt? Pave the area underneath and give it runway markings. Don’t forget to install in-ground blue lights…..
No dishwasher because of piping/plumbing issues during the winter. When it gets cold, moving water up to the elevated floor may clog or freeze during the colder months. Plus, it was probably more cost-efficient to not build it in, as it would have to be insulated, and that was probably not in the owner's budget...would be my guess.
For flight sim you need to use a projection system so you can really look out the windows. It would be outrageous but build a theater on rails that looks like a hanger that would roll into place over the cockpit. A huge cured screen. full 270 degree view.
What a great place to spend a night in. Guessing the dish washer thing is due to electrical amperage issues (high heat) or the amount of water it uses. Also, paper plates can just be burned on site.
Absolutely floored by how beautiful that is! I've been hosting people on Airbnb since 2011 and now have my own hotel. Professional tip that will make your life a lot easier would be to get a cloudbeds booking system or some other PMS software sooner than later than left your place on multiple websites and also with a direct link that is 20% cheaper and your life will be a lot better. Trust me on this one. If you have any trouble or an Airbnb guest causes trouble Airbnb will be almost impossible to work with
To make the Cockpit a SimPit. Your going to need to design a custom switchboard, readable by a computer. Possible applications could be multiple raspberry pies connected to swithes and potentiometers operating off the mechanical input of the oem switches, decoded to keyboard inputs, and can be mapped in FlightSim. Only other option would be retrofitting pre-built sim equipment. Just subscribed after seeing the DC-9. Can't wait to see if u make it a fully functional SimPit!
Turned out sweet! Lotta work. Can’t believe how much you have done. End of the wing - soaker tub? No Dishwasher? I’ll look on the comments. I am curious about all that equipment right by my head in the master as I am trying to sleep. If that stuff is kicking on and off all night has it been an issue?
This turned out incredible looking 👏 I really hope me and my wife can come up next summer and do a week of training with you. I showed her this and she really wants to stay in it now.
We'd love to have you guys! Give us a call or email cfi@fly8ma.com for training inquiries. You can book the airplane to stay in here also: airbnb.com/h/dc6
Gorgeous and ingenious are the only words I know to describe this home. Do you live here or is it only for profit? Appears you guys are living your best life; kudos to you! I just discovered your channel, and I look forward to following you in the future. I found your explanation of the accident in Japan really helpful… Continued success with your endeavors!
Haha...we'll try to get some more updates out there soon...been crazy busy with summer construction. Hope to have some more flying videos out again soon!
Got plenty of water down there...we wanted to ensure good water pressure and ran 1in line with 60psi to service the plane. Actually had more to do with the curved walls for the dishwasher.
Next thing you may like let’s say a coast guard helicopter or one of the big helicopters I seen someone on the UA-cam did that and it looks real cool 😎
Good afternoon from the lower 48 sir, and thank-you so much for the video! My name is Guerry, and although I cannot remember why I became a subscriber, this video makes it worth my effort. I think this is a phenomenal idea, and I am so glad to see such a majestic icon of the skies getting a second (third, forth…?) life as a guest house. I’ll save my best idea for last. In regards to the dishwasher, I have no idea. As a single guy, neighbors keep yelling at me to use my dishwasher to keep all the seals and plastic parts from dry rotting. So on occasion, when I need to wash my coffee cup, in it goes on a full cycle. Since I RARELY use “Facebook”, I am not a subscriber to your page. Consequently, the idea for the walkway and what you will do at the wingtip for me is a wild, scientific guess. But I do have an idea. Build a platform that does not shake, and make it for those with geosynchronous telescopes to do their star gazing on clear Alaskan nights. Your spot looks to be perfect for the hobby, since it seems to be some distance from city lights. Now the best part: What to do with the cockpit regarding a flight simulator. Add flat screen TV’s that fold upwards and perfectly join when deployed. Put in a high powered PC with Microsoft Flight Simulator, and attach all the flight panel gauges, buttons, knobs, etc. to it. This will enable guests to play the parts of the pilot, copilot, flight engineer, and navigator in order to fly the DC-6 around the world. That would be so much fun! Again, thank-you so much for the post. I am looking forward to see how your airport hotel develops. But, I have a quick question. Why wouldn’t pilots flying the DC-6 drink beer during the flight? JUST KIDDING!
You destroyed a working irreplaceable piece of history for a tacky hotel. You think it's cool, I think it's sad. You could have built a replica and not destroyed a mint well maintained plane.😢

One suggestion I would add a scanner for anyone who wants to listen to the airplanes going by in the air or for the trans Pacific HF frequency flights
I like it!

The history on this bird is pretty damn cool!
at 5:54 its going to be a diving bord into pool..... Oh, wait you aint in Oklahoma!

Dishwasher - hard to fit a a cube against a curved wall
Bingo!….we can scribe the cabinets to the wall and curve them to the wall, but the dishwasher would be pretty leaky if we did that with it
@@fly8ma.comflighttraining199 Did you consider a marine style drawer or top load in counter design such as the Blanco Vita Neo?
Dishwasher is unnecessary when you have hands. How much was this thing
Just about $800k when it was all said and done

Way kewl, that's amazing the wing tip the load of a hot tub. Tough DC6. Is that with, or without bracing?

Hot tub on the wing? Radical!
Heck yes!!!

So cool! Great Job on the design. Are you going to have bedroom windows in the next one? I love that the bathroom isn't tiny.
Yup! The next one has 82 windows to be exact!
You should 90° that deck so it runs paralellel to the fuselage up to that bay door.
oh that is a nice idea. could be a good time. Could be added in the future.
Wow! That turned out awesome!!
Thanks so much! I'm certainly happy with the final product!

well done on a great job . we will be visiting in the future .

Diving board?
Sounds fun! Short season here in Alaska though for a swimming pool
Fantastic!! Best wishes on a Dream project. My guess on you wing is an observation deck.
Keep guessing! Think about soaking!

Thank you! It’s pretty fun to hangout in there
Nav lights, that turn on at night.
Ooo…that’s actually a good idea we may add!
Dishwasher.... Noise issue?

this is incredible!
Humidity in an inclosed aircraft would be difficult in a cold environment. I had some bad experiences in the Coast Guard in SE Alaska. Cool digs!
Haha...we spent a lot of time trying to overcome that. Lot's of layers of insulation and ventilation to ensure it would be comfortable in the winter.
That is awesome👍👍

a call back.

I’m guessing that a dishwasher won’t fit because of the wall curving in?
Nice. 💜💜🦋
You guys are great. Love to fly with you sometime.

You made it in life
Thank goodness, they kept the wings on this one
But the spinning turbo prop plane at the start, was really funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

Where is a swimming pool?
And No Smoking everywhere :)
Take off!

Maybe buy a 1:200 model of the original plane and if they don't have it order it custom
Maybe a safety railing inside of the forward cargo door for safety?

This would be an awesome place to vacation, but as a truck driver seeing the fuselage being hauled in one piece was wild
Pretty long load....ended up being 14' by 104'....the next airplane we moved was even bigger at 24' x 135'
