    Although it is a full-on Scorsese film, at times, I got kind of a Clint Eastwood vibe, particularly in the final act. Not in a bad way!

      and then After Hours, New York, New York, Silence, The Age of Innocence, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Raging Bull are all pretty much tied... so I'd need to rewatch them to order them. Also need to rewatch a couple others, like Casino.

    I saw it yesterday. It's absolutely brilliant. I think I'll see it again on the big screen if I can. As far as the de-ageing cgi, it is very easy on the eyes, and it's seamless EXCEPT for (literally) the very first shot of DeNiro as a young man, driving a truck. Just that very first shot looks very odd. It lasts less than 10 seconds. They cut away, then come back, and it's great from then on (imo).

    "Once you have outlived everybody, what is the point of it all?" -- sounds a lot like Nietzsche's discussion of 'the Last Man'. To wit:
    "The lives of the last men are pacifist and comfortable. There is no longer a distinction between ruler and ruled, strong over weak or supreme over the mediocre. Social conflict and challenges are minimized. Every individual lives equally and in "superficial" harmony. There are no original or flourishing social trends and ideas. Individuality and creativity are suppressed.
    Nietzsche warned that the society of the last man could be too barren and decadent to support the growth of healthy human life or great individuals. The last man is only possible by mankind having bred an apathetic person or ethnic group who are unable to dream, who are unwilling to take risks, and simply earn their living and keep warm."

    Go ahead and admit it.....The Irishman sucks.
    When given free reign, Scorsese picks the most mundane and boring subject matter he could possibly make, Labor Union. Pacino makes it somewhat interesting to watch, but everyone and everything else was boring AF. And CGI young Pesci looks like a cartoon character. And Deniro moves like a 70 yr old man. Oh wait, he is a 70 yr old man. He had more energy in Dirty Grandpa. And Pacino was basically being Pacino.
    If this film was made by a different director, with a totally different cast, would anyone care to sit through a 3 hr plus Netflix movie about labor unions?

    • @rideordis810
      @rideordis810 4 роки тому +1

    ok, just buying an $11 ticket now on Friday Nov. 15th at Vancity theatre in downtown Vancouver, 12:30pm-4pm showing (wow, what a long movie!). You have to buy a $2 yearlong membership to the Vancouver Film Society in order to gain entry, because the films they show have not been classified.
    It will be a full movie weekend for me, this on Friday, Ford vs. Ferrari on Saturday, and Princess Mononoke and Sunday. All noonhour matinees.
    edit: okay, the deed is done! I'm excited!
    edit2: and Christy you are looking particular adorable today, it's such a relief to see that you've made it through the doldrums of last winter when no longer having Young Turks to go to clearly had an effect on your overall well-being. We seem to have found our feet! Although perhaps I speak too soon, and we'll know for sure once we get through the coolest dimmest months of November through March again this winter. At any rate, one of the hardest things in a person's life is when they have a place and purpose for many many years, then one day all that goes away for some reason outside your control. It's profoundly challenging.
    I turned into an angry self-loathing narcissist homebody after finishing at UBC in 2002 and not gaining employment. Took me about seven years to even BEGIN to grasp the magnitude of my problem, mainly attitudinal, and another five to make some serious headway. Anyway that's neither here nor there... just saying I can relate. Having no place or purpose outside the internet, and outside your immediate family, really sucks, it ain't enough, especially when you're used to being immersed in a dynamic creative environment as Young Turks studios must have been.
