I...think you're the first people I've heard attempt to get it right! Totally unnecessary (I'm pretty sure everyone has accepted the Anglicized pronunciation), but still commendable!
You’re right! We’ve looked it up several times, there’s multiple ways of pronouncing it. If he signs with the Jays I’m sure he’ll let everyone know how he likes it pronounced 😂
I am getting so tired of all the media, UA-camrs, Podcasters etc saying for months that the Blue Jays are in the mix or the front runners for this guy or that guy. Just give it up. Until the Blue Jays get their own house in order and fire Atkins and Shapiro, nobody of significance is coming to Toronto. PERIOD.
His pronunciation is actually closer to original Japanese. We just say Sa-SAH-ki for the benefit of English speakers. We never do it when he pronounce his surname in Japanese.
It's a shame it didn't work out with Roki Sasaki. But no problem Hiroya Miyagi and Hiroto Takahashi are the next two top young pitchers still playing in Japan. Then the Jays have to try to sign one of the two.
LA rallied their Star players (all locked in long term contracts)... Who are we going to gather up? We can't even sign our own Super Star longterm. I think the Jig is up for this Front Office and MLB know what they're about.. Roki will be a Padre.
The chase for Sasaki is another example of Atkins' incompetence. By chasing Sasaki, Atkins has foregone all the other top prospects in the international pool. For a team with one of the worst farm systems in the league, the team needed more young prospects in the system. Atkins does not care about the future because this is his last year under contract. At this point he is simply trying to obtain his own extension. He is trying to gaslight ownership and fans to believe this tean can win a world series. He is looking to trade for players going into free agrncy next season. Give up whatever assets to make ownership think he knows what he's doing. He screwed up with Vladdy and Bo's time here and now is willing to screw the teams next decade just to get a new contract for himself.
He wont be going to the Dodgers as he will be overshadowed by Ohtani and Yamamoto and he doesnt want that plus he doesnt want to be a reliever as thats what the Dodgers will make him because they have a full 5 pitching rotation already: Ohtani, Snell, Glasnow, Yamamoto and Kershaw
Pay attention. Sasaki has made it clear he doesn't want a big spotlight and Kershaw is no longer a starting pitcher. Keep hoping bud. Setting yourself up for another heartbreak huh?
I think the main reason why the Blue Jays are one of the three finalists is because Sasaki is a competitor and at the same time possibly a legacy maker. He may not want all the spotlight but he would want to make a name and possibly a great legacy of himself before he gets to free agency. He believes in his talent and wants to make a monumental impact on a team to show that not only he is a good player he makes teams better around him. For him making a basement dweller into a legitimate playoff contender and possibly a World Series winner will not only make him a hero of an entire country, but he may be heralded as one of the greatest players to play in the game. There are a lot more things he could accomplish with the Blue Jays compared to the other two teams that he desires because these two teams in terms of talent wise and etc are just better than the Jays. Atkins will probably emphasize the accomplishments, accolades, and legacy he could achieve if he comes here compared to what he could achieve with other teams. He will probably also point out that the Padres are in deep financial trouble and their ownership is uncertain since there are tons of lawsuits happening around them. Money is not a factor but they can also point out how Sasaki would more likely get the most endorsements if he plays for Toronto compared to the Dodgers and Padres since the Dodgers have Ohtani and Yoshinobu for Sasaki to compete with in terms of sponsorship and endorsements, while the Padres have to compete against a big market team like the Dodgers for viewership and endorsements. Sasaki will not have much competition in Canada to get huge endorsement deals because there are no markets in Canada to compete against. Getting Sasaki may not vindicate this front office but I do believe that signing him would probably be the catalyst that they desperately need to attract other star players in free agency to come to Toronto, saving the off-season and their jobs by the process.
Since it isn’t a money issue.. where the Blue Jays could offer significantly more, they have far less of chance of signing him. Why would he come to a 4th place team in a tough division on the East coast?
No, there are rules behind on IFA. Have to use the pool money only. If there wasn't any rules on the signing bonus, The dodgers would of given him a signing bonus of 700 million deferred out for the next 20 years! lol
Jays can trade for international pool money at $250,000 increment, so they increase their offer to him, but even that is capped not sure at what amount the total is
Of course it won't happen lol the management has no jam and no finish. You should all know by now. They haven't made a splash yet, what makes you think they'll actually make any impact. Management needs to hire former players who'll know wtf they're doing
As a Dodgers fan, I’m rooting for him to not go to SD. The difference between our comments is SD may not make the playoffs without him. Your future is f’ed. He’s your savior. You guys are THAT desperate. Your fanbase will agree with me. You don’t want him going to Toronto OR LA.
@@doedoe3042 We don’t care if no other fanbase wants him to come here. And we don’t need him. But for you guys to remain in contention you need pitching and you need it dirt cheap. You guys have too many holes. All I’m saying is your desire for him should be greater than your hate for LA.
@@doedoe3042 You know what your fanbase’s talking point is? He will be back of the rotation on the Dodgers, while he will be an ace in SD. Have you heard that? Will be losing key players.
You guys are really reaching. 🤣 What can the Blue Jays offer Sasaki in terms of what he (through his agent) says he wants? 1) The best pitching development in baseball and 2) to be the greatest pitcher in baseball? The Blue Jays currently have the most incompetent front office executive pairing in Shapiro/Atkins, they can't seem to attract any top level free-agent talent, they offer huge contracts to free-agents that have no desire to play in Toronto but are cheap on offers to their own stars (eg. Vladdy), they can't even extend/resign their own players, the only free-agents they can seem to get are the ones that other teams reject (eg. Hoffman who failed medicals for the Orioles and the Braves), and have a completely eviscerated farm system. So... why would Sasaki choose the Blue Jays?
The Fix is On. I hope Frick & Frack have learned something in these High Level Talks? Something's not right with Baseball? Why can't we sign any of the Big Deals? Thanks for sharing.
Here's a thought. Would SF/Ari be eager enough to keep Sasaki out of the division to the extent that they would trade Int FA money to the Jays for cheap to give us a monetary edge? I doubt it, but wouldn't that be fun? I read about Sasaki waiting a week to let teams make these trades. Can acquire 250k max per trade. I believe 1.5m max in a year. Imagine 6 trades for int FA money in a week lol Would he count towards the farm system? Immediate Top 15 ranking
I thought he didn't want any players at the table; so maybe this was just a catch up with those that he knows and has returned to Japan from there, therefore it may have not have been a second meeting.
Atkins may be pushing the hardest only because his Job is on the line. I don’t think Roki will come here I think it’s time to turn the page and give James Click a chance

This did not age well
U sound so stupid lol saying all that has if roki said it to you himself and that’s why he is a dodger idiot
Only thing Atkins is going to sign is glad to be apart of the process to a 3 year deal with deferred processes for said happiness 2028 thru 2030

Honestly, Toronto is the last place any Japanese baseball player would go. It’s true.
