Hiking to South Branch Oromocto Falls | New Brunswick

- The South Branch Oromocto Falls is located off of the Kirkpatrick Family Trail and is a relatively lesser known hike which offers peace, tranquility and some roaring falls! This waterfall can be found in Hoyt, New Brunswick and certainly one that you’ll want to experience for yourself.
The trailhead for the Kirkpatrick Family Trail is located at the end of Sand Brook road and 100m onto the dirt road. Here you will find the Kirkpatrick trailhead sign and a large parking area. This is about 1 hour from Fredericton and 45 minutes from Saint John.
From the trailhead it is a 1km hike to the falls. The total hike is 1.9km out and back and should take anywhere from half hour to an hour of moving time depending on your pace or if you’re hiking with children. After the initial lookout I would suggest carrying forward down the steep slope to the shore of the river for another beautiful view of the falls from a different perspective. It is upto you how long you would like to spend and enjoy the beautiful views from the lookout and down below along the shore, but i suggest bringing a snack, taking a seat on the rocks and take in the sounds of the river as it passes by.
This would be a great adventure for families, friends and pets alike. It is possible that there may be others enjoying the trail and falls, but it is equally possible to find yourself alone on the trail to enjoy the experience in solitude.
If you’re looking to spend more time on the trails just head up the dirt road another 500m to the trailhead for the Raggedy Ass Falls. Another lesser know New Brunswick gem!
