So happy you got to visit chichi and share it with us! Both of my parents are from Guatemala and every time I visit I fall more in love with the culture, the people and Guatemala's history!
i think it’s so beautiful ur so respectful & intrigued with learning indigenous cultures. i’m ethnic mayan, but i was adopted as a baby & seeing videos w the culture i would’ve been brought up in means so much too me
I am glad you are showing to the world how Marvelous our Country is. As a Guatemalan I am proud to know you even try to speak Kiche, one of the more than 25 Alive Mayan Languages. Congrats and keep going.
I love your country, and live with my best friends near Mazate in Suchi. I also love to see someone preserving a bit of the culture of the various Maya communities. K'iche will continue, but I fear some of the Mayan languages may die out. 😊
Some have already died off. There’s a possibility the descendants of the dead language is alive but it’s tongue is now extinct. Guatemala used to boast 24 Maya Languages.. now there’s only 22. And 2 are at a HIGH risk of dying. Assimilating in the last 20 years in Guatemala isnt helping & the years before that was the Silent Maya Holocaust & BEFORE that was a American banana company that enslaved the ppl. It’s one thing after another. I pray a future for the Maya cause it’s not looking too bright
TJ. I am shocked you don't have over a million subscribers. You are AMAZING!!!! You're intelligent, Very good-Looking, you have charisma and charm and above all, you can relate to ALL age groups. You are a Prodigy. I predict that you are destined to become a VERY famous person in the not too distant future.
Thank you because you like my culture of my country, I live in San Jose California. Blessings brother. Enjoy every trip that you make in Latin America.👍🇬🇹
Anxious ! from what ? All you need to do, especially if you're American is to : 1- pick your country of interest. 2- go to website and search for either US peace Corps or US Foreign Exchange Program, between US and your country of interest. 3- Reach out to one of those 2 groups, and tell them your aspirations about dying languages, and ask if they can arrange someone they trust on the ground there, to guide and protect you. You'll be amazed by results, and you won't spend your cash. They'll sponsor your work. Just turn it into research rather than just hobby. You'll thank me later
En Guatemala todos somos americanos pues es nuestro continente, los de estados unidos les llamamos estadounidenses, son muy buenos tus videos, saludos y gracias por visitar Guatemala
to start with, by looking at the names of the humble people you interviewed, if you look at the nomenclature, you can see the influence of religion. btw you have got a good way of creating a rapport with your interviewees.
Read Ronald Wright's great book Time Among the Maya. Also The Last Lords of Palenque by Victor Perera and Robert Bruce. It is about the Lacondon Maya who lived traditionally in a pre-colombian manner in the jungles of Chiapas up to recent times.
Amigo why you don’t show nothing about Xela? There is si rich in culture! You need to have a good friends and contacts to now better the places. You did so fast in Xela.
to use your catch phrase 'And boy', the concept of Acculturation is an intriguing subject. It is not because people don't want to speak the language. There are social and economic rationales behind it.

This is a great video. Thank you for sharing our culture. I live in the United States but I am from Zunil. I was so happy to see my hometown
Are there many Mayan communities in the United states that actively preserve their languages?
@@mitzvahfilmsOF CURSE WE DO, I'M FROM GUATEMALA AND I SPEAK KAQ'CHIKEL, MY SECOND LANGUAGE IS SPANISH AND I'M LEARNING SOME ENGLISH
@@mitzvahfilms Many work in farms and meat processing plants in several states, I met a few in a small farming town in CO.
4,000!? That's the population of an average American high school. I hope these Mayan languages never die!
