    Aron Ra changed my life. He got me questioning all the bullshit I was raised with. From there I started reading the Bible for myself instead of listening to the Preacher and all the bullshit unraveled from there.
    Aron, if you read these comments: Thanks, man. You rock.

      Mine, too. He's the one who finally convinced me that evolution is legit. I grew up being constantly exposed to Kent Hovind dvds and other absolute bullshit and by the time I was an adult I had no idea which way was up. I'm so grateful to AronRa and a couple others for doing what they do. It really is important.

      KickYouInTheThroat Being grateful to someone who did you a solid isn't exactly the same as being doughy-eyed and fawning. I had been trying to understand a concept for months and something about the way he put it clicked, and finally I got it. Suddenly a thing that didn't make sense made sense.
      I was raised to be polite, though, so I am in the habit of being grateful and saying thank you when someone does me a favor. Aron Ra did me a favor. I'm grateful. Nothing more, nothing less.

      Actually, no. If taken seriously, this quote would pretty much destroy all of scientific research, since any scientific model or hypothesis is initially unsupported by evidence. The better way to put it would be "Whatever is not supported by evidence, does not merit positive belief in its validity." for the record, I'm an atheist too. I'm just pointing out the obvious and fatal flaw in this quote if taken at face value.

    many years ago, when I was in church, I heard the preacher say, "if there is disagreement between the Bible and the facts, then the facts are wrong." I'm Christian, watching this video right now to hear if this guy's got anything strong against me, decided to look down. The false dichotomy is easily the biggest problem with any rational debate with Christians, and while it exists dominantly among christians when it comes to religion (when it comes to leftists, which are *usually* atheists, it's western culture as a whole), it's not exclusively so. I've found atheists have a hard time debating me when i have no problem conceding that parts of the bible might actually be false and/or not even intended for factual purpose (parables for example).
      On the flip side, largely this mentality is why science was so strongly supported by the catholic church. The basic idea was "we can use the bible to ensure that we didn't screw up the experiment, but if the expreiment is consistenly in opposition of the bible, then clearly our interpretation of the book of truth is wrong." They had this idea a long time ago, that, i assume due to the reformation, got lost, that the bible was a collection of books, some fictional with more philosophical value and some historical with factual value: both of which are from the eyes of man regarding the divine, rather than from the divine itself. Somewhere along the line we lost this bit, which is sad, because it really doesn't have to be this way that we throw out actual wisdom of the ancients that can be verified (especially in regards to how humans interact with each other) simply because we might not like this bit or that bit. Why should the bible be thrown out as a whole, when the basis of debate is to "separate the wheat from the chaff"? A flat earther is still right when he says the earth exists, he's just wrong when he says the earth is flat.

      Good point. I speak to a Christian each week about her beliefs and have pointed out the red flags, flaws in her beliefs and how so many of the bible stories have been debunked. They did not happen at all. Christianity is her worldview, identity, she wants to be like jesus, listens only to hill song etc. Her beliefs have never been challenged. She would be lost if christianity was proven to be false. It really does destroy the human faculties. It's sad! I almost think if it was proven to be false she would still believe in it. That's how powerful this nonsense is

    I’ve seen so many references to the spirit or soul as wind or air in the past couple years studying biblical scriptures and hebrew interpretations. Aron was the first person to bring it to my attention just how deeply the ancients idolized air because they saw it was the main ingredient for life in their observations. They didn’t know it was actually particulate matter. Brilliant insight from Aron or perhaps whoever he got it from. Really clarifies a lot where there would otherwise still be mere conjecture in my understanding

    That choice people make of remaining honest or remaining creationist, I started to call that AronRa's fork. Can we make that a thing?
    For atheists, AronRa's fork should be as well understood as Hitchen's razer and Sagan's law. It's the defining moment in most debates and I've seen it happen a lot. All creationists and other people caught up in cultish movements such as MLM or anti-feminism inevitably reach AronRa's fork.

    • @AronRa
      @AronRa  7 років тому +40

      "Once sincere believers begin to investigate the evidence and arguments on either side of this alleged
      controversy, they will very quickly face a life-altering choice: whether to remain honest, or whether to remain creationist, because it is no longer possible to be both." -AronRa's Fork

    • @ahouyearno
      @ahouyearno 7 років тому +4

      AronRa That. I've seen it happen for other belief systems as well. It's not just for creationism.
      My wife had to make that same life altering choice when it came to vaccines.
      I personally had to make that choice when it comes to feminism. The alleged controversy between feminists and anti-fems does not exist in the real world. Honesty required me to become a feminist.

    Some people are frightened of dying. If you tell them they will live forever in heaven and death is not the end, they will believe any ludicrous thing supporting that assertion, [even the existence of god], because the promise of eternal life [ugh!] removes their fears and makes them happier.
    Religions are designed to do that, no matter how many lies they have to tell.

    I once worked for a steel fabrication company making handrails and balcony rails that were to be installed at Caesar Chavez High School in Phoenix, Arizona. I am certain those handrails existed. I made them myself. They had substance. I hope they were installed at Caesar Chavez High School, but I never saw it happen. But Caesar Chavez High School was opened and is now in operation. I take that as evidence that the handrails were installed, even though I have never been to Caesar Chavez High School and have never seen it except for the handrails that I made. I have faith that Caesar Chavez High School exists. I never saw Caesar Chavez, but I have faith that there was such a person. Faith is exactly what the Apostle Paul said it was.
