new favorite activity is watching the entire movie solely to observe the maids + servants reactions at whatever antics the aristocratic idiots get up to that day
This movie's humor is so brilliant but the best part is noticing some new little reaction or gesture to something absurd someone says each time you watch.
I love every moment of this film. I loved the way Harriet Smith got her faced covered with that powdery cake in an a attempt to get the penny just as Emma walked in. Also her long suffering brother in law's woes, the whole film is pure bliss!!
This movie got me thinking. The part where Mr Knightly tells Emma off for being rude at the picnic... and she’s sat in the coach... the driver / footman were out of shot, sat in the front seat just staring straight ahead pretending they couldn’t hear the entire thing. I died inside.
The best part was Mr.Knightley lying on the floor and the servant quickly walking out 😂. It reminded me of a similar occasion that happened in my 8th grade musical theatre class, when two girls were singing “Let It Go” for an assignment and a boy asked to go to the bathroom to avoid hearing it. After a bit, he came back, and the song was not yet finished and he walked back out into the hallway with the same attitude of the man in the video.😂
And the actor who plays the footman Bartholomew in this also played Prince Edward in The Crown. They weren’t from playing Prince bothers to a weird vicar and a servant.
it's like with every new rewatch I find new things to notice..this is such an oddly charmin, hilarious and lovely movie! All the actors did so amazing..that cringy carriage ride with Mr. Elton...PERFECTION!also Mr. Knightly is...amazing. With his facial scars he seemed even more ruggedly handsome!!this is by far the best adaptation of Emma..after Clueless ofcourse
Watch pride and prejudice (either 1995 or 2005) both equally entertaining and romantic because it's doesn't matter which one you choose, at the end we love the woman called Jane Austen and her work. You can also watch Sense and sensibility or persuasion. Or Sandinton her half completed work (I must add that)
Those darn creepy winks and smiles- me and my friend were dying during the coach scene. Just imagine being a servant and witnessing all of this everyday in your life
I love how this specific adaptation captures the ridiculousness and playfulness of the book. I was expecting a more serious story before reading the book but it was rather such a fun thing to read. It's like a lot of things happening at once and everything going wrong. The fact that some dialogues are also taken word by word from the book
@@sheenaatem319 Oh,sorry mate ! You used american spelling therfore I thought you were an american but glad to hear that you are fellow German! Good day ! - from an English

I still find it crazy how Mr Knightly is 16 years older than Emma! I suppose they could've gotten away with it in this era, but it would be strange now.
Strange maybe, but I know couples who have 10+ years apart of each other and still work. As long as the youngest of them is not underage, it's not as unusual as people think.
@@Ana_Paula.Frasson no I agree, I just thought since he knew Emma since she was a child and was friends with her dad when she was younger it came off a little bit creepy at times but it still works in the end somehow like Emma as a character is quite arrogant and self-absorbed and he teaches her (due to his maturity and maybe age) how to be a better person in her life so that's nice and their marriage and relationship makes complete sense so maybe the lesson is that age is just a number?!?
I love historical drama, because you can see the point of view of the working class. And the chaos and drama they also have to deal with, to the point they say enough. Like in 3:00 when the servant walks away, literally saying : I'm not dealing with this shit.
I grew up with the Gwyneth Paltrow Emma, and I wasn’t expecting much from this one, but I have not laughed so hard in a LONG time, especially not for a period drama! Even though I love the genre, it’s not typically known for its _hilarity_ 😂

Holy Crap this truly is hilarious. I tried reading the book but it was so boring for me. I think I'm going to watch the film first and then give the novel another shot.
She is Emma's friend Harriet Smith who gasps all the time. Her sister is the neurotic, grumpy one with the children and long suffering husband who comes to visit. It is a divinely funny film. Love it loads.
It's all in good fun. There are many more serious versions to enjoy, so why not play up the satire and irony Jane Austen very much wrote? This is also a compilation that plays it up even more.
@@eb7446 I know I'm acting like a fuddy-duddy. But as I've grown older I've stopped enjoying the explosions, the effects, the crude interchange that passes for witty banter. The right way to do an "updated" for-the-youth Austen is Clueless. But if you keep the original characters and the time period, then No. Ach! Technically they are gentry, not aristocracy - the class who earn money from land but don't hold peerage titles.
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH THIS SOUNDS GREAT
The movie was good, but it was carried by the servants

Nuh, this is better than Clueless.
This movie is just the Regency version of a Vine.
