The beautiful island of Koh Chang is one of the largest islands in the Gulf of Thailand and one of the dream destinations of all. In addition to great weather with lots of sun, paradisiacal beaches with lush green palm trees, it also offers super delicious Thai food. Koh Chang is located in the southwest of Trat and is around 6 hours by bus from Bangkok (excluding ferry time).
The best way to get to Koh Chang is via Bangkok. We therefore recommend that you combine your Koh Chang vacation with a city trip to Bangkok. From Bangkok you can fly then to Trat several times a day with Bangkok Airways.
It's a little cheaper to take the bus. Air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses run several times a day from Bangkok's Ekkamai bus station to Trat. The ride takes about six hours by air-conditioned bus or about eight hours by regular bus. The tickets cost you between 18 and 20 euros.
From Trat you can take a taxi/shared taxi to the pier (price no more than 100 baht/2.50 euros per person). From the pier, ferries leave for the island almost every 30 minutes. Tickets cost between 1 and 3 euros.
