short answer: your skin tone doesn’t determine your culture.
Edit: I kinda miss worded what I meant, sometimes skin tone can DETERMINE culture but that doesn’t mean your skin tone IS your culture
Overly simplistic, but I’ll say that ethnic characteristics often belong to certain parts of the world. But due to emigration/immigration you have people who originate from other corners of the globe who can identify culturally in the country they are raised in but it does not inherently change their ethnic origins.
Great wisdom from pizza time peter Parker
Yeah it's amazing how people can be more similar based on whether they were raised in the country vs the city than whether they are white or black. (I hope this makes sense)
Culture is based on location and Circumstance
Yeah my best friend is native American, she is an active member of her tribe and she is just as snow white as I am and my family is straight out of Scotland.
America's obsession with race is fascinating. Absurd but fascinating none the less.
U better not be from a country that was a colonial power cause i see europeans saying this on twitter and i'm like?????? who do u think created the concept of race and all the awfulness that came with not being white when they did so? America gets so much flack like they are the only ones who suck when it comes to race.....
@@bambii_thinks3147 I'm a bit confused on your train of thought. The Europeans living in Europe right now had no involvement with the colonization of many countries, because that happened literally ages ago. They've moved on to different issues, but the US seems to be the only country still so heavily obsessed with the concept of race. Do you mind explaining what you mean?

@@bambii_thinks3147 im greek and the obsession with race in america is weird for me too, it's not the colonialism's fault this happened like centuries ago, you better move on some time or else you always going to have race in your mind and that's sad.

for me, as an european, its seems kind of ironic how US-centric this "no white culture" argument is. It is like assuming american way of life is the default human behaviour.
yes its very condescending
Agreed
its US centric because it was started.. in the US. This is because white people in the US saw themselves as the default American. Even though they are not. So when other cultures said you have no culture because their whole culture as "American" isn't just for white people, it started arguments. Ask any white American though and they'll say some shit like their grandparents came from Italy. They have culture, we all know it, but bipoc were telling them that being "American" isn't a "white only" population.
Theyre right tho
Because it's an American cultural expression. African-American's don't literally believe that White Americans (that's who we are talking about when we say this expression) have no culture. I really wish Aba and Preach did not touch on something that they don't have the background to discuss.
Race is only such a huge thing in America. Everywhere else, it’s more ethnicity rather than race.

Let be honest, if there was a unified white culture in America it would be seen as nothing more then a white supremacist thing.
Culture isn't really based on race, it's to do with nationality because Scottish culture and English culture is different, yet both are white. Same goes for most european countries.
Exactly 👏🏾
Yeah culture and ethnicity are in constant flux, always in a system of evolution and geographical changes (natural and human made) there is only one race of humans

If culture is man made can’t the definition change based on the circumstances of the people within it? It’s simply a shared experience a group of people understand because of their race.
It gets a little weird in the US because we are pushed into racial groups.

Telling an European that he's got no culture is probably the biggest insult.
@laura Because in Europe it's not about the colour of your skin. We treasure our history and cultures and we practice it with pride and joy.
The first Europeans were dark skinned. Now, my first comment didn't mean "Telling a WHITE PERSON that he's got no culture is probably the biggest insult." We may all look different here, but we all have the same culture.

I'm East-European. Lived in Europe my whole life. I was never outside Europe not even on vacation. I have visited most European countries though. Now, hearing that some Americans say there is no white culture is a huge insult, to themselves, because it means they have no education or knowledge of history and culture in general and they most certainly have never been to Europe. Europe is 100% culture and history. I get that there is a race war in America, but come on, planet Earth isn't just the US. Most Americans speak as if there are only other Americans out there... *sigh*
I also really like this channel and Mr Preach is 😍 handsome handsome. Ok, bye.
But I have a book called The Great Scandinavian Baking Book written by an American woman from Minnesota. She says her family originated from Finland. White America seems to me to be made up of many different cultures according to what part of America you're living in. You all have different histories and origins and your culture reflects that.
It's not white people who say that about themselves. Other races say it about whites.
There’s a lot of pressure here for White people to lose the culture of their origin as it’s seen as “white supremacy” to some. For example, I live in NYC and a dual language French program was just scrapped with the reason being that it was not inclusive enough (which is a euphemism for not anti-white enough). Insiders told me it’s because it’s originally a White language. With that said, my husband is Russian and Polish and we will raise our children to be incredibly proud of this heritage. We celebrate Orthodox holidays, listen to Russian folk, and cook Eastern European cuisine.
Yeah White's didn't start saying this about ourselves this was said by other people I mean we said it like a hundred years ago but we've been past that

One word: AMERICANS
Its a problem because when Blacks in America create culture, and that culture is appropriated by white media, its no longer “ghetto” or “ratchet” but now “hip” or “vivacious”. I know it seems like a no problem, but from the Black perspective it’s extremely insulting and dehumanizing.

Yes, everyone has culture. It has just been normalized to the point as we dont recognize it as culture.
Yes, this is literally my view on it
when you live within a culture ...you don't see it as a 'culture'...culture is made out to be a much more interesting word and meaning by some...culture is a simple thing, within a larger culture there are subgroups...counter culture..just means the norms in the society.
@@rubybrown1676 this is random but I was watching this food blogger talk about how people say Indians worship cows and he has never seen an Indian worship a cow. It more the cows live with them like pets. We would freak out if we saw someone eat a dog in there society thats how they respect cows. I know this isn't a fair one to one comparison but it made me realize how culture plays a role in this. Clearly there is - what could be perceived as - weird infatuation with dogs in white culture. Which is culture. Sorry for the rant I thought it was a good example lol
exactly, u can’t not have culture
This. The only time you notice culture when there is substantial difference in cultures especially in a country. Example Ireland is mostly made up of Irish so their tribal culture is similar to their country's culture but in a country like the US or Canada which has numerous cultures its easier to notice since their cultures don't necessarily match...
The american-centric view in the US is a thing in America because you can get in your car and go on a 5 hour drive and sometimes not even get to another state and if you do it's more or less the same in most cases. In Europe you can go through multiple completely different countries in a few hours and have a complete cultural shift unfold in front of you.
I would think what is inside the home says more than what is outside of the home, but maybe I'm not understanding your point, or maybe I get your point better than you do. After all, building codes kind of make houses similar, also depending on the developer.
@@kudostothewiz2703 to clarify what the OP was saying: in America we have a country the size of Europe. Each region has its own culture and dialect. There is no true 'american' culture. You can be from LA, go to Texas and feel like you're in an entirely different world. Foreigners generally only see the part of America that comes out of Hollywood, it only represents a portion of us.
Given the sheer size of our country most Americans will never have the time to visit all 50 states and actually learn about the communities and cultural histories there, so it's hard to be concerned about countries half a world away that we have even less connection to.
@@jessebailey8970 americans States are really not so much different to eachother compared to european countries or even states within european countries.
@@putinisaterrorist2047 First, I love the name as a huge fan of Overlord. On to your point though, that's generally only true if you are sticking to major cities in the US, while also ignoring the more culturally unique ones like Miami, New Orleans, San Francisco etc...
If we're talking about the actual culture and local history of the states, things can get wildly different. Everything from accents, pronunciations, cultural norms, social, political and religious beliefs, can change drastically from one state to another.
I'm not sure what your personal experience is in living in different places in the US, but for me each place has been incredibly different. Going from say a farm in Ohio to living in Miami where most the people weren't even speaking the same language, the architecture was completely different, social norms were night and day and the weather was as far from what I was used to as possible.
More importantly, my point was never that each state was as diverse as each country in the EU, my point was that the states are diverse enough, so given their amount and sheer size, it's perfectly understandable for someone to not look past the US
@@putinisaterrorist2047 Of course they aren't, languages being the most jarring difference between European countries. And the relatively short amount of time the US has existed. But the areas, such as the south, the midwest, the west coast.. they can be different. As @jesse bailey said, rural areas in different states can vary significantly. They eat different foods, speak with different accents, and in general believe different things. When it comes down to it though, we all pretty much want the same things.
America is technically still “the new kid on the block” ... As a colony country we’re not that old. Having said that, we do live in a bubble... So we say stupid stuff to look smart and on occasion it’s completely rubbish that lacks the context realm.
@@ts8404 As we both speak in matters of opinion
Although the USA is the most culturally diverse. Those that live in cities that are international hubs are more aware of other cultures than Europeans, etc. the problem is we need to stop yelling out our own opinions so we can listen to our international visitors. (Yes, Europeans are more aware of other European countries cultures.)
@@patchup Lol USA is not the most culturally diverse. Chad is the most culturally diverse country in the world and the top 20 are all African countries. There are different studies that look at different aspects and the lists change all the time but none of them conclude USA as the most diverse. New York and LA are on the list of most culturally diverse _cities_ but they're still not as diverse as other big cities like Toronto, London, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Paris etc.
@@natb9919 Please reread my comment, I am excluding European to European diversity. But I would still argue what the research criteria are for measuring diversity. Additionally, the main point of my comment was not the Top Ten list of diversity but addressing how Americans are perceived and how they perceive other cultures. As far as diversity I am speaking of other cultures actually creating subcultures within the country. Where the sounds, smells, and look of the area changes drastically. The USA naturalizes over 1 million people a year for decades. There is an additional 2 million plus entering annually. The next western country's numbers are around 400k. I would think Turkey might be comparable to the USA but I am not aware of it's numbers.
@@patchup you can be equally aware with the slightest bit of interest
If you look at Europe, and you don't think "that's the most diverse spit of land on Earth", your definition of culture is flawed. Culture has nothing to do with color of skin. Its language, food, music, history faiths and more.
So we agree American culture is derrived from other Cultures right? Religion, music etc. I am latin american, but I am Also Dominican. I believe it has to do with the fact that the term "White" exists only in the US bubble and was never meant to describe Europeans, the same way African nations don't exactly relate to the US term of "Black", to them, they are tied to their own culture and not the race or color of their skin. Meanwhile we have white Americans trying to think of anything under the sun to claim as their culture, looping in every stereotype from Europe like the Crusades, the Vikings, The Roman and greek "white" sculptures and the staple, stock footage of Opera and orchestras. I guess that was the true meaning behind the phrase "White (Americans) have no culture". It's not that they don't have an American culture, but that they've lost their distinct historical roots unlike those in Europe that they loop in every culture as theirs just because of similarity in skin colour while actual European countries like France have no problem with calling their football team as French, because skin colour doesnt define one's culture as long as one assimilates in, to some extent.
But ofc, sjws also went and ruined the meaning behind it with their overuse of the phrase
The fact that people say there's no white culture at all. That's down right offensive
I've never been offended by the opinion of idiots, but i do fear that they might become the rule makers or enforcers.
Did you even watch the video lol
I'm not offended, but the question is sort of dumb. My question is do they know any white people. (dumb question right) I did not get the point of this whole thing, What is considered white any longer? A bit of a lecture and many groups just plain self segregate.
I guess what is "white". There is European culture, it can get more specific in the countries. but "white culture" doesn't make sense to me. Then again I also don't say "black culture". Black to us just means American tbh

Saying that Europeans don’t spice their food is an disrespect, they literally conquered half of the earth just to make their stuff taste good.
lmaoo they stealed spices for nothing 😭😭
@@yeniheriyani6640 u never heard of French cuisine?????
I've heard different things. One being that Europeans who used spices were considered rich because they could afford it. When poor Europeans were able to use spices, the rich didn't go around using it because that meant you were lower class. Then I've heard that Europeans used spices to preserve foods and mask flavor because they didn't have a refrigerator to keep food fresh. Whatever is or isn't true, people seem to think spice just means something like jalapenos or paprika, when in fact there are other spices that don't add that kick.

He’s not saying whites have no culture, but he’s explaining where the phrase comes from.
The collective of White people do not share a single collective culture in the same way that Black Americans do.

As an American, what you guys said is totally true. It wasn't until I left the US and went to Europe that I realized how much of this American bubble exists.
I'm American, lived in the US my entire life, and am white. However, I moved around constantly, mainly grew up in Hawai'i, and when I was on the mainland lived in predominantly black communities. Everything they said is (as you mentioned) 100% true. These concepts and things I was already aware and observant of. Yet, as mainland US has mainstreamed many of these conversations it's helped me further unpack and understand my experiences as I've gotten older.
White people definitely have culture, but it's hard to see that when it's treated like the "norm" or "societal basis of values" or "expected". Simply because other groups have culture *beyond* that, (and many other reasons). Having these concepts flipped onto me opened my eyes to just one of the many ways that we all become simplistic in our thinking sometimes. According to a study done by T&T Clark (Library of Biblical Studies), in the book titled "Recovering The Daughter's Nakedness," it points out how Japheth is the forefather of the Europeans (pg. 7).
The people calling themselves Jews today in the land of Israel are descendants of Ash'kenaz (hence the term Ashkenazi Jews), the son of Gomer (son of Japheth).
This fact means that the current inhabitants of modern Jerusalem today are gentiles (Genesis 10:5 KJV) and not Semitic people.
According to a DNA study performed by Dr. Eran Elhaik (professor at the prestigious John Hopkins University), the "Jews" that are currently in modern-day Jerusalem are not descendants of Abraham (SOURCE: educate-yourself.org/cn/texemarrskhazarianjews08mar13.shtml).
Instead, those people (Gentiles) were placed in that land (Israel) by the United Nations in 1947 and six months later, on May 14, 1948, Jewish leaders in the region formed the state of Israel.
All of the above took place according to a prophecy written about in the Bible in Genesis 9:27 KJV, which reads:
"God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant."
Prior to their placement in the land, those people (Gentiles) have never stepped foot in that land that is called Israel today.

It is also true if we look at text references to Egypt or Egyptians, that Greek writers saw no real difference between those people from Egypt and those from Ethiopia. In fact the Greek word Aethiops, from which Ethiopian derives, means ‘burnt face‘, presumably because the Greeks who encountered African people saw them as different to themselves.

Race never had anything to do with culture.
Try to tell apart a spaniard, an italian and a greek simply from their looks. It's hard, if not impossible in some cases. Maybe fashion trends will help, but just with facial features? nope
Now check their culture, their history. their cuisine, and their language. Completely different worlds, even if they share some stuff
It's even funnier when you study spanish and portuguese history, and learn why they were (almost) always two separated countries in one limited space such as a peninsula, and why it's not one entire country itself
The woke crowd tried to import things everywhere. Brazil, which was an example in this video where anyone could be Brazilian because we don't have a specific Brazilian look? They're trying to import all of that racial bs over here, and they have been trying for years. People with a brain know it's bs, but more and more it slowly spreads throughout my generation, the younger people.
Anyways, I should probably look more into Portugal's history, since I only learned what was relevant to Brazil and vaguely about other stuff like the Reconquista and the Iberian Union. And about Spain, I know nothing.
Also Spanish history is ridiculously diverse considering it's been conquered by Cartagena, the Romans, the moors, etc. In fact Basque is one of the most unique and baffling languages in the world and it is in Spain. I also look for practices that they might be doing better than the US or if there is any practice I feel is accomplished better in America. I’m proud to be American. I embrace it, but I acknowledge that other countries can be just as awesome (or sometimes just as awful).
And saying that white people made racism is hard to backup historically. It is hard to pinpoint in history where racism started. For example, let’s take the biggest case racism. Slavery. Who had slaves? Yes America did, but thousands and thousands of years before America was a country Jews had slaves/were slaves, Chinese people had slaves\were slaves, African tribes amongst themselves would conquer other tribes and take survivors as slaves, Irish people were slaves for the Vikings. There was a time in Rome where you could sell off your relative to slave traders for no reason and it happened.
I applaud any culture (including America) that has removed slavery as being acceptable, because it never was and never will be. I also applaud anyone who’s actions are not racist. So do I think that racism was created by white people? The answer is really we don’t know, because it was and is practiced by many cultures.

Here’s my perspective: White people can have definitely have culture, but being white IN ITSEF is not a culture. That’s just a skin color. White Americans do have a culture but it’s derived from being a “American”. BUT one exception to this rule is black Americans, due to black Americans not know where they came from being stripped from their true name to having slave names (Africans were not coming here with their last name being William lol, this is why Muhammad Ali changed his name from Cassius Clay, he said that wasn’t his true identity , it the a slave master) overall just being stripped from their identity and also isolated from The U.S. , it forced them to start from the bottom, blues, jazz, hip hop, R&B, Mumble rap, certain hairstyle with that whole over sized clothing hip hop theme related style. Certain dance moves especially during the Harlem Renaissance. The one thing Black Americans had for themselves were made fun of called “ghetto” and “ratchet” then got capitalized off from without given credit which is why their so possessive with that. Imagine getting made fun of, kicked out of school for, not being hired for your black name like “Tyrone” (there’s statistics behind this). This is basically the way I've viewed the whole "culture vs no culture". As a white person in the states. I can definitely say, there is no "brotherhood" no "camaraderie" among white people as you can clearly see in the black community. It's been something that' I've been a tad jealous of. But, white people don't look around for a group that they fit in to. Like you guys said, we don't need to here. What I do wish I would see is that the black community wouldn't feel excluded from the general American community. It's sad to me as a young person and I don't understand why other people my age feel they couldn't be part of the the same American community. And at some points if feels like they don't want to be part of it rather than being excluded from it.
Go to church bro then you can get that brotherhood. Lol
Yeah i get you. And i do appreciate the part in your comment where you said you were jealous of how the Black Community has that brotherhood, sisterhood, comrade relationships. Im a Black American man, but in all honesty I also do feel jealousy of those kinds of relationships because well, i myself never really felt in fit in with my own community. Eventually I just started going my own way and stopped caring, but it is nice to see people belong somewhere to someone at least. I do also wish the both the White and Black communities could try to help each other and help us feel like we aren't still separate but equal. Just, equal. And the one confusing problem I always noticed was that, yes many people in our community don't seem to want to integrate with the general American Community, but at the same time, they also make it seem like they do also wanna belong as well and its just something that never made any sense to me. My only clue with that is that they just don't want to lose something that they consider a huge and important part of their identity (Identity is something that always mattered in the US sadly), but other than that i never understood how the Black Community would want it both ways, you know?

When Europeans are outraged with the phrase "White people have no culture" it's because this phrase is not precise.
"Amercian Whites have no distinct culture based on history and traditions" would be more correct.
European culture is a thing tho. Yes, Eastern Europe and Western Europe are different but they also have plenty similarities, interconnections and more importantly common cultural roots so you can say about European culture or European culture group aka civilization. But America is not Europe.
Is even that true though? As much as black culture was forcibly imported, weren't the earlier cultures in America from like Spain, the UK and whatnot? Is nothing left of that heritage?
Why is it correct tho?
White americans have distinct cultures based on history and traditions. Thanksgiving for one? I've only heard about canada and Us celebrating that. They have the civil war, the fact that they broke free of british rule. Their massive popculture business. Their outgoing, friendly personalities.
There are plenty of countries that got born out of other countries, they still have there own cultures tho.
I would say that the correct version would be "american whites don't have a culture based solely on being white but on being american" just as say "english whites don't have a culture based solely on being white but on being english"
However the fact that you can say "vlack americans have a culture based solely on being black" would be correct because of what Aba said that they might not have a huge connection or knowledge of exactly where their heritage comes from
There is no monolithic homogeneous white culture in the US. You have a different culture in the South that is a mash of Irish, Scottish, French, and African. You got stuff in Texas which is also influenced by Irish, Spain, Mexico and probably others. A lot of the culture in the US is the result of cultural fusion and changes depending on the region you look at.

Americans who are aware of different cultures know that there are different white cultures, and they are usually referring to American whites when they say white people don’t have a culture. The basis of people saying this is because American culture is heavily based on black culture despite America having a long history of hating their black residents. Black music dominates mainstream. (It’s everywhere, from movies to tv commercials) Whenever a black person popularizes a dance or a slang term it becomes “mainstream”. You’ll end up seeing those terms in everyday ads, on websites, on make up, on clothing etc. same with dancing; a dance move popularized by black people will often be used by white people and they will usually get the recognition first (this happens a lot especially on tiktok) I mean, white people don’t even make dances to white music, it’s almost always a hip hop song or black music. Even America’s most watched sports (basketball and football) are heavily saturated with black people. Then there are a lot of white people who have taken black aesthetic and called it something different, I.e. Kim K and her “boxer braids”, Sarah Lindenberg and her “invention of the silk bonnet”. white women emulating the features of black women. (I’m not saying they are trying to look black, but there is something odd going on when the person making fun of your big lips and brown skin in middle school, ends up getting lip injections and tans excessively.) there’s also an influx of white women with big hips and butt, something that for a long time was considered taboo by the white community. Everyone wants to be down with the brown, even if they don’t like the people.
I see this a lot on social media and in my everyday life.
