Trouble Shooting a Hydraulic Sheet Metal Bender- Testing Pump Flow

The customer states that their sheet metal bender was moving slowly and had no bending power.
Finding a problem on a piece of Hydraulic Equipment is a process of elimination.
1. Start with the basics, Is there oil in the tank? Yes.
2. Does the pump generate flow and pressure????
In this video, we find out if the hydraulic pump is in good condition by carrying out a flow versus pressure test on the Vane pump to check how healthy it is.
The first problem was that the machine was Chinese and had unusual Metric Flat Face Hose Fittings and adaptors. So we first had to make up some adaptors to connect our test hoses to the bender's Vane pump.
A pump flow test uses a hydraulic oil flow meter and a flow restrictor valve to induce a load to the pump.
The drop in oil flow is compared to the pressure generated usually in 500 psi steps.
A maximum drop in flow of 20% over the full pressure range of the pump is considered acceptable.
