currently have a very new broken dominant arm and was wondering if a pump would be easier or harder so than you for that! my fave gel is in a pump. I feel like wash day seems much more doable than was putting it up. which has been fairly impossible so far. 😭
I couldn't lift both of my arms for months for a neurological disorder...I couldn't even wash my teeth by myself and I lived alone...but I figured it out how to do EVERYTHING! For washing my hair I had to sit on the floor in the shower and put my elbows on my knees and moving my head around because I couldn't move my arms. What a struggle were those months!
Omg felt this one! Broke my dominant (right) arm a few years ago and needed surgery! There was several weeks of washing my hair with a plastic bread bag rubber banded over my injured arm haha! Also learning to do other everyday things like eating and writing(!) was so hard. I also quickly learned contact lenses were overrated haha... I'm also a professional violinist so thankfully my arm recovered and I could play again! But it was definitely a scary and frustrating time!
I had a stroke in my dominant hand was paralyzed so yeah this is an every day thing for me. Very difficult and frustrating. I found it’s easier to apply the shampoo to my head instead of my hand because if I drop it I could slip in the shower and not be able to get up
I had to have shoulder surgery on my dominant arm, washing was easy, trying to put my hair up in a scrunchy was rough lol. I brought the side pony back into style or walked around looking like a fraggle lol. No matter who stopped by i handed them my hair tie so they could fix it for me
I had shoulder surgery on my dominant arm about 6 months ago, and frankly everything is still difficult, but that's partly because I didn't have a total joint replacement but need one. The hardest things for me are reaching the back of my hair or the opposite side of my head. Also, I can't plop because I can't reach the back of my head to secure it.
Oh my goodness I laughed out loud about the shampoo. lol. I have had 3 carpal and ulnar transpositions and pretty one handed. I didn’t attempt this but will today. lol I hope it works out well. I have a pumps. Half battle won. Love it. Thank you for the laugh and positivity.
Thank you so much for doing this!! The only things I did different were I used the scalp scrubber to spread the shampoo evenly and I used my gel in small increments in order to spread it a little more. I did diffuse twice in that time and the diffusing was exhausting!! Good job on experimenting what it was like!!
I'm getting ready to have surgery on my hand in a couple of weeks so thank you for the tips! I'm already nervous and not looking forward to only having use of one hand for a while so I'll take all the helpful tips I can get!
I’m fascinated with your taps. I’m in U.K. and if I switched the tap on I’d either get very hot or completely cold water so either you have an asbestos scalp (!) or your tap is preset to warm. Love your washdays, thank you.
@@AbbyKadabby18 I can imagine! I alternate between sitting down and standing up. I have cp in one hand and one leg so long styling sessions don't bother me as much. Just some soreness in my arm but I'm used to that :p. The only issue I have with scrunching my hair (2a) is that the curl doesn't hold (my hair is quite heavy). I want to try a styling gel/ blow drying with a diffuser, I hope that will work!
@@lisa_x847 Yeah, I have to occasionally do it like courtney does kneeling down, or do it standing up. It's the long diffusing process that hurts the most. My hair is 2c/3a and it doesn't like to curl unless I use a gel either. Gel, gel casts, and diffusing really help!
I don’t know if someone mentioned this but the sticky plastic on a stick they sell at moving stores like UHaul were a lifesaver for my son when he fractured his wrist. Get well soon
Ty! The curl cream idea to use a gel and to rinse out extra cream! I am thinking 🤔 that's why it was greasy and dry ! Oh I was putting it on the back of my head not just the ends du lol ty!
Girl, when I broke my arm and needed surgery I didn’t do anything more than wash my hair for months! I literally called my mom sobbing because I couldn’t tie my hair up and she took an early lunch! It was rough!
Thank you so much for doing this video! It’s crazy that you posted this right before I injured my right shoulder. So for the last few wash days, it has been a little tricky for me! You did much better than I did… I can only manage to put my hair in a side ponytail at this point but I am choosing to be grateful I can at least wash it! I am stuck at home right now while I recover and stumbled upon this video… It was just the entertaining boost I needed at just the right time! Thank you Courtney!
I'm a leftie too and a few years back, I was in a car accident and lost the ability to hold anything on my left hand. I think being a leftie helped me successfully use my right hand (though somewhat cumbersome), because the world is designed for eighties. Lefties always make due. Writing and eating were the worst of it though. Luckily at the time I was still straightening my hair at the salon.
Your "before" hair is still gorgeous!!! I hope you know this, but if you don't, you heard it here!!! Much love from Louisiana! ALSO, you are such a sweetheart for doing this!
Thanks for the video. It was interesting. I have limited use of my left hand. I will say that the scalp scrubber comes in really handy as well as a wet brush to distribute shampoo and conditioner. I can't put my hair up in a pineapple or ponytail to preserve my curls. I've asked my husband to and he tries ☺️
Can I just say that leaning over that way with your head down without getting all wet in the face means you’ve got skill lol my head hurts watching you lol you’re talented haha
Thanks for this video. I've been thinking a lot about mobility issues and grooming. It's interesting to try these things out so I can have ideas to pass on to the people I know who's kids need an adaptive process.
I'm a righty and just injured my right pinky, my solution was to not wash my hair. I wash and styled for the first time since injury and my pinky was really sore after all the scrunching. The diffuser was also really hard to hold. Also the first couple of days after injury I had to be a lefty.
I honestly think this wash day turned out really nice. Looks less stringy in the back. I feel like when you rack all your hair off the back of your head in normal wash days it breaks up your curl clumps. Less manipulation in this wash day helped it look more full.
Courtney, I think you can appreciate this as someone who has RA (though I hope and pray yours never gets to this point): my RA (severe, have had it since childhood) has left my once-piano-playing hands gnarled like the Wicked Witch of the West. So in addition to shoulder limitations and fairly regular hand surgeries, I have hands that just won't make fists. Squishing to condish and scrunching to get curl clumps are really tricky for me. I do my best, but let's just say my results are never like yours. :)
So, if we ever had a show down you can literally do your hair with one hand behind your back - and still have it come out better than mine. Glad it was only a theoretical exercise. 😁
Hi Courtney, how are you? I hope you’re doing well. I started watching your videos a while back because I’m thinking about doing the curly girl method, I have wavy hair I also have cerebral palsy which affects my left hand so I generally wash my hair with the one hand only and I can style my hair with one and a half hands (because I can hold things with my left hand but I can’t brush or put in the products with it I have to use my right hand that’s why it’s only one and a half hands 😂😂). Anyway I just wanted to say you did a very good job and this is from someone who always has to use one hand while styling and washing her hair. Take care and have a great day. ❤️
This reminded me of when I had my shoulder rotator cuff surgery and my left shoulder was out of commission for a few months. It wasn’t fun, but somehow I found a way to get things done. Thankfully I’m a righty 😌
Omg giiiirl broke my hand 2019, but I hadn't started the CG method yet. Also, I Sliced my finger over the weekend :p I persevered! Glad to see something like this! Thanks!
That looked hard! They have blow dryer stands. (Looks similar to a microphone stand with a strong clip...look on Amazon.). So, if diffusing is super important to you, and you’ll be without the use of your hand for a long time, might be worth it...
To diffuse you could just put the blowdrier on a horizontal surface, get in front of it and drop your hair on a towel like for plopping. I think it could be easily done on a bed, maybe to complete the job if your arm got tired.
