  • In this training, Haley Giuliano (née Nagle), Outreach and Education Specialist with Colorado State University presents the CarbOn Management & Emissions Tool (COMET) kit, including COMET- Farm and COMET-Planner. The COMET-Tools are a set of web-based soil carbon and greenhouse gas inventory decision support tools designed for conservation scenario analysis of land-based systems.
In her webinar, Haley demonstrates how to use the tools to estimate soil carbon and GHG changes as a result of management changes. Specifically, she:
-Explains the key differences between COMET-Farm and COMET-Planner; how to use COMET-Farm (Cropland accounting focused) to create field management scenarios to compare soil carbon and GHG emission/reduction estimates; and how to use COMET-Planner for a quick scenario comparing of NRCS Conservation Practice Standards
-Explains how project managers can use COMET-Farm and COMET-Planner to evaluate and report on field-, farm-, and project-level outcomes associated with adoption of conservation practices by multiple farmers in a project
-Discusses COMET-Tools methods, systems boundaries, and limitations
-Provides an overview of a redesign effort underway that includes interface changes, methods updates, and a suite of resources available to assist new and existing users
