Costa Maya - Cruise Port Snorkeling - Mahahual Beach, Mexico

- This is my third time visiting Costa Maya, but my first time snorkeling. I have heard from others skip this port because the snorkeling is not good, so the question is, as always, should you bring your snorkeling equipment. The answer: Definity YES!
We did not have a lot of time at this port on this cruise, we were scheduled to get back on the ship at 1:15PM so I didn't get a huge opportunity to snorkel and the weather was not the best. That being said, this was an amazing snorkeling adventure
I wished the sun was out so the water would have been better with a lot more color but it still did not disappoint! Mahahual Beach was 11 minutes from port and has a great beginner snorkeling spot and an advanced but beautiful barrier reef.
Just right outside the reef there is live beautiful corals and lots of fish and areas to explore. On the bay side, we saw barracudas, mackerel, silver dollar fish, lionfish, mullet, and more
One note to all snorkels who love the water, Please try your best to not touch or stand on any live corals with your hands or fins.

@@Snorktastic We are on the NCL Joy departing Miami March 23rd. It should be plenty hot/humid in CM and we'll need to find shade! Enjoy your next visit to this snorkelling paradise.
They don’t care if you go past the walls? I was super paranoid about breaking the rules when I was there
No, they don’t care as long as you are safe and know what you are doing. I asked Jose there from big mama’s, he said people go out there all the time. Just make sure the waves are calm enough to get out to there and that you can come back in with ease
did you have to bring own snorkel gear or can you rent
I brought my own, I didn’t see a rental place on the beach but I think you can buy a cheap set there, They do have a lot of local stores
