Dak Prescott says his contract won’t be an issue for the Cowboys adding pieces in offseason: “Yeah I don't think my contract is going to withhold us from making any moves or doing anything that we need to in free agency. if that big chess piece or big piece comes up, that will require that or does require that, yeah the way that my contract is structured and the way that I believe in this team, I don't think that would be a problem at all to move things around to make that happen.”
Tom’s Take: Dak is 100% correct. He’s making plenty of money, but the Cowboys have a very easy path to free up $100 million (or more) in NFL Salary Cap Space if they want:
Current Cap Space: Around $23 MM
Dak Savings: $36 MM
CeeDee Lamb Savings: $20 MM
Diggs Restructure: $6 MM
Steele Cut: $14 MM (or $9 MM)
Safeties Cut: $8 MM
Micah Extension: $15 MM
Total Money Saved: $122 MM

(If you don’t want to read this, it’s cool, I get it) I’m going to rant: the ownership-Jerry and Steven (maybe the sister and children too) are the issue with this team. All they care about is their profit margins. When you are the highest grossing sports franchise on the planet why care about fans and championships? Maybe Mike is a good coach, but the ownership did nothing to help him out in the offseason. Obviously they didn’t extend him… Question: how’s that $240M QB working out for us? Before he got injured? They need to trade to get the number 1 or 2 pick to get Travis Hunter and keep their original pick. You can trade away Demarcus Lawrence, Diggs, or Bland and pair it with something else. You could then draft Ashton Jeanty or Tahj Brooks. Depending on who is taken in the first or second. If Jeanty is taken you can get someone for dline or oline in the first and just take Tahj Brooks in the second or third round.

I think Jerry didn't mean that Dak's contract prevented him from spending long term. But in the short term. Let's say we signed Henry and other players. Would they have done as well on our team. Get your bills taken care of before you spend. Not have massive credit card dept and buy something shiny and impressive and then have to sell stuff later to get money for the dept. Avg QBs don't avg 3600 passing yards per season and was 2nd in QBR in 2023. He'll pass Romo and Aikman as the all-time leading passer next season, which isn't average

Dak is tired of being blamed for everything. People need to get over the fact that starting QBs make a lot of money. There’s nothing stopping them from being a free agency player except the “we like our guys” ethos they love so much. This off season is make or break for me. I know the truth now that they could bring in talent if they want to. It will be a conscious act if they CHOOSE not to.
Mike fisher has been talking about the cowboys freeing up about 100 million in capspace for over a month or so, saying that is part of the plan with cowboys soft rebuilding, keeping there powder dry this year. Mike fisher believes they could get up to 8 big name free agents. Possibly Dre Greenlawn, tee Higgins and others on defense.

There's nothing wrong with our receiving core that we have right now. They're actually really good and Mingo believe it or not is actually a big good receiver. We definitely need to get Turpin more involved but that comes down to coaching, we just do not have a good coach that knows how to utilize his players and the other issue we have is Dak our QB. It doesn't matter how good the receivers are if Dak can't get them the ball with accuracy then it's not gonna matter and Dak needs to stop throwing interceptions and making stupid decisions. Dak also needs to use his legs way more because that will open up the passing game if he uses his legs and runs with the dam ball like he did his rookie season. He doesn't have to be fast to use his legs.There's a lot of QB's that use their legs and get yards and their not fast. And I don't want to hear an excuse that he's afraid of getting hurt after his bad injury Because all he needs to do is slide and the defenders can't touch him.

There are Jerrah haters. As long jones continues to listen to Will McClay we’ll be fine. Look at some of the draft picks or finds. As an example how good we would have been on defense if our starting corners and DL didn’t miss so many games (Bland, Diggs, Lawerence, Parsons). All four players are pro bowl or all pro and Bland just came back to the lineup, but Diggs was then out. How good would/will the pass defense be Once Bland, Diggs, and Lewis all played/play together. We lost Williams in camp, in week 2 we lost Lawerence and Parsons (Lawerence is still out) then Kneeland went down, that’s our top 4 edge rushers out. Also Mazi was too light in the britches, and is having basically his rookie year. As good as Overstock is he’s also basically a rookie as he lost his rookie year to a knee injury. This take won’t be popular as I want McCarthy back as well as Zimmer. I believe considering the injuries on both sides of the ball have really hurt this team, and they’re both really good coaches. I only have one thing left to say “HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!

Dak wants McCarthy to stay because they are buddies and McCarthy does not push him to be Great. Do you ever notice when Dak throws an Interception there is no one on the side lines coaching Dak up helping him to see the mistake. Dak is so good that instead of playing in preseason games where he could sharpen his skills, he is calling plays. Someone should inform Patrick Mahomes who plays in every preseason game he can and has only won the last 2 Super Bowls and isn't the highest paid QB, maybe you are working to hard at this thing.
