I was in Portugal during this entire tournament. First watching that game against Croatia and everyone going crazy for the last minute winner our bar was actually behind so I thought Ronaldo scored but it was insane. I’m a major Poland fan and actually got kicked out of a bar for cheering during the first goal. But after they eliminated us I started rooting for Portugal. I still remember being on the streets of Lisbon when Ronaldo went down and everyone had lost hope a few people actually cried. Then Eder being alone and the street absolutely erupting and the ground started shaking will never forget that.

As a Greek man I reminisce...I was 8 years old back then, I was watching the final between Greece and Portugal when Greece went to glory against Portugal one of the moments that can't be forgotten is Cristiano Ronaldos tears at the end of the match. 12 years later as an adult I had to support one team during Euro 2016... I chose Portugal. Winning the trophy gave me joy. It was a miracle back then when every Greek was celebrating about our national team but fate owed this trophy to that legend and gave it 12 years later with the same way as Greek grabbed it 12 years ago

The improvement of Rui Patricio in this Euro is honestly one I will remember for life. Went from arguably one of the worst goal keepers in the tournament (group stage against Hungary for example, or against Croatia, where he slipped in a corner and Portugal were lucky that Vida missed an open net header) to the best goalkeeper of the tournament after the penalty shootout against Poland. I mean the guy basically went from an average to bad goalkeeper to one of the best in Europe. That performance in the final against France was simply world-class.

Their first ever national team trophy! History, history makers.... like the commentator said "against all the odds". I can imagine if Portugal was already a team with history, they would have swept everything before them long ago. But they had to break the ground for future generations.
Ronaldo didn't have the most amazing performance in the EUROs, but he did exactly what the all-time greats do. He stepped up when his team needed him. His performances against Hungary and Wales were magnificent.
And don't forget his off the field leadership with the coach during the finals he is going to be a great coach

A day where every year we remember and thank God for blessing us, a day that we will always celebrate, with passion, pride, joy, happiness and etc. A day that I will never forget especially with my family when we watched the final. Ronaldo scored only one goal in knockou staged. In knockouts also, Portugal barely manged to beat teams like Polan, Croatia and Wales. In final, where roanldo did not contribute anything, they met for the first time a better team. France played better than Portugal whole time and Portugal got lucky to score one goal in extratime. Euro 16 was extremely lucky for Portugal to win.

*Unpopular opinion:* football isn't all about skills (otherwise the winners would always be the same: Germany, Spain, France...). *Mental strength* and *mindset* are even more important: how can a team keep confident after drawing all group stage games, making 70 shots (group stage all-time record I think), hitting the post several times, missing a penalty, and conceding 2 deflected goals in the last game of the group stage?
The role of squad leaders (Fernando Santos, Ronaldo, Nani, Quaresma, Moutinho, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho) and the massive presence of portuguese immigrants in France were vital for Portugal to keep confident and "survive" all remaining games, enduring 3 matches with extra-time, winning the final against the host country, and even ending up as the only undefeated team of the 32 teams in the tournament. What a beautiful story!

If someone tells you that Ronaldo is better than Messi because he won EURO 2016 with Portugal and Messi didn't win any international trophies with Argentina, tell them; in the 25th minute, Ronaldo subbed off when the score was 0-0 at EURO 2016 finals. Which means both Ronaldo and Messi managed to take the team only to the finals. In that sense both players are the same. But Messi was able to be the player of the tournament in 2014 world cup and in the 2015 Copa America, even though they didn't win the tournament. When Portugal won EURO 2016, still Ronaldo wasn't the best player of the tournament. And of course Messi brought Argentina to 3 International Finals including 2014 FIFA World Cup while Ronaldo managed to do it only once and it was just EURO!..
