Piratz Tavern closed for lunch while other nearby businesses serve lunch

- I happened to be in Silver Spring MD one rainy day and decided to have some lunch at the much maligned "Piratz Tavern" only to find out that they don't serve lunch because they don't even open until FOUR PM. For those who watched their episode of Bar Rescue, one of the recommendations made by John Taffer was that they should open for lunch hour and take advantage of the large population that works in the immediate area. Even if they want to be pirates they could at least open for lunch hour and take advantage of this enormous income opportunity. I walk around Georgia Ave to show that all the other food businesses in the area open their doors at 11:00 AM to cater to the lunch crowd. But I guess pirates cant be bothered waking up before noon.
Dear Tracy Rebelo, the most shocking thing I have ever seen on Bar Rescue was when you asked a customer what she thought of the new bar. She said something like "It's great" and you replied "It's really disappointing to hear that." Next time I decide to become a Ren Fair geek, you'll be the first bar I look up.

The reason it wasn’t open for lunch hours was because the owners and staff were busy sleeping off the previous night’s hangover. This wasn’t a business to them, it was a playground.

Christopher Howell she probably does. My advice to Tracy’s daughter is to live with grandma and have a part time job and go to college while granny helps out. As for Tracy and her Jack Sparrow lookalike husband, maybe you can have a pirate show in the homeless shelter!
Tracy married the right teenager to cook at this fine restaurant, hissy fits and all, because as we now know, Tracy can do anything she wants. Nicely done Tracy.

If I remember the episode correctly, you were seen and heard asking a patron what she thought of the new look. When she replied in a positive manner you said you were sorry to hear that. Seems like you want your adolescent fantasy life and to hell with paying off debts or making a profit.

spikedpsycho I never said there was going to be a re-do. I believe that the owner was expecting a re-do in exchange for participating in the follow up episode, but Taffer refused considering how she tore apart the first renovation. Can't blame him

Why was I NOT surprised? And that disturbing, grim video (which I am not about to even say that despicable title) eventually "sealed" its fate.
This bar would make sense if it happened to be across the road from Disney World or some sort of theme park.You could dress up the guy with one eye like captain hook and her husband like peter pan or tinkerbell lol. They would make a fortune during the busy months.You can point people in the right direction then it's up to them to blaze their own trail .I admire the lady's passion for her love of all things pirate when it comes to common sense she just walked the plank.

I really don't understand why this owner even bothered wasting Jon's time and money in the first place?Her childish ideas on how to run a business had her a million dollars in debt,her and her loser husband were living in her parent's basement and the bar was making NO profit.So,at least she seemed smart enough to accept Jon's incredibly generous offer to overhaul her pathetic and failing bar.....but then she blows it!She decides to change everything that was making a good amount of money right back to the stupid pirate-themed bar that was already a proven failure.And what a shocker!She went broke again and didn't learn one damn thing.I'm sure her worthless husband didn't stick around when he realized the gravy train was over.What a total idiot.
Jon’s design, the Corporate Bar & Grill was a good idea. The Pirate theme seems stupid, since it is located in a busy area with a lot of office buildings and businesses.
The name was a bit cringe, but otherwise it was solid
In my opinion, they used the Reality Show for both FREE publicity and a renovation of the interior. They had absolutely NO intrest in changing their theme or creating a must go to place. I have no problem with a Pirate Theme Business if that is what they want, so long as it is run well and the service and food are good. The reason I would go there, as with a lot of people I am sure is curiosity because of the show but I would prefer to go during the day. Silver Spring has a lot of restaurants, small businesses, Whole Foods, shopping, movies, the Discovery Channel Building and Metro Bus & Subway Station all within a couple blocks. Not being open for lunch as busy as Silver Spring is & with all that is around is not a good business decision.
If the cook wants a job, 1 word: NINOOOOOSSSS!!!

Actually, I don't live in Maryland, but I was driving on the interstate and passing through Silver Spring when on a whim, I decided to pull over and google Piratz Tavern for the address, and Georgia Ave was an exit which made it easier to find.Anyway it didn't appear that you told John that you used to be open for lunch, maybe you did and they edited it out, but either way you couldn't have blown through $1 million plus (the $900k debt + the proceeds of the house you sold to keep the bar open
I would love to hear a better explanation of Tracy's side of the story. If she stops back, I would love to hear how the show was inaccurate, how the inaccuracies arose, and other than the name of the bar, what problems she had with the makeover other than the removal of the pirate theme.
she has already seen and commented on my video .. look back to Tracy Rebelo's posts.. they may be blocked because too many people complained about it, but its easy to unblock them .. In the end, I think she saw my video and decided to open for lunch after all

To be fair Piratz was a bar that served food while the other four were restaurants. Such a wasted opportunity. That location is prime. The office workers would come there multi times a week for lunch & happy hour. Someone else will come along and offer the neighborhood a place to spend their money.

Could the extreme loss have something to do with the fact that you married then hired a man to run the kitchen who couldn't boil a hot dog and spit out his own food. You say Silver Spring is not a corporate enviorment. Look at the 15 story office building right behind you and all the other ones down the block. I didn't intend to document a video and put it on you tube, I intended to eat there. I assumed you'd be open at 2PM. It just worked out that way
I'm late to the party arrrgh. But, yeah. Tracy seems to be not telling the truth. In one of her replies she says they're open for lunch, which isn't what their website & FB page say. She says they lost money in the past doing lunch....maybe because you're a pirate shack? but why use logic... She says why waste time on this?, because people get outraged when we see people given an opportunity and spit in it's face! Notice bars/restaurant/hotels in these shows that do well after praise or just stay quiet about their experience. Those that fail or continue to struggle blame the shows. PS I think Corporate Bar was a dumb name, and I think Taffer did it just to poke them in the eye since they were rude little pukes.

I am a resident of the area. I live in Olney and work occasionally in Silver Spring. It is a corporate environment, there is tons of foot traffic there, and you're delusional. McGinty's, Fire Station, even the little place across the street from you all do good business, while yours is failing. Why do you think that is?

If you truly are a resident of the area, you know that downtown Silver Spring is far from a corporate environment. I made the mistake of entrusting my business, my livelihood and that of my employees, to what I assumed was a viable entity with good intentions, real experience and professional ethics. What I got was the polar opposite. What I experienced was a total lack of integrity.
Are you high, Tracy? Did you overdose on moron pills? You were given a business with the corporate bar and grill that was going to be a major asset that would line your pockets and more, and you threw it in the garbage because it wasn’t pirate themed? Welcome to adulthood, Tracy! You gotta quit playing treasure island and leave the pirate cosplay for conventions on your free time and be a grown up and run a business! Pirates won’t get you out of your mommy’s basement, pay your bills, provide money to invest to make more money, or put your daughter through college if that’s her destination.
Oh well, I guess she can always go to pirate college, enroll her in Peg Leg Pete Academy, I guess, maybe the homeless shelter you and Juciano will move into will have a retired pirate ship captain as one of the residents, and maybe you can go to the unemployment line and see if a pirate ship has a help wanted sign on them!

Piratz Tavern became the victim of a singular goal, to produce a great episode of a "reality TV show". Spike TV achieved their goal and left Piratz Tavern behind as carnage. We survived. Can we please just let it go? And please, come in for lunch sometime.

Perhaps you have too much time on your hands. I cannot fathom what would motivate you to expend so much energy producing a negative video about an entity you are neither familiar with, nor connected to. For the record, Piratz Tavern was open for lunch for 5 years, at an extreme loss, preceding the bar rescue episode. During those years there was little or no foot traffic in our area. Recently this has changed and we are currently open again for lunch.
