Greetings Rickard, I teach AI and machine learning, and I’m looking for ways to use AI to inspire students to learn coding more effectively. Many of them rely on ChatGPT to solve their assignments, but when I ask them questions directly, they often struggle to respond. How can I address this challenge?

One approach could be designing assignments that are concise and demand a significant amount of subjective reasoning, where ChatGPT's utility is limited. For instance, you might ask students to reflect on their biggest challenges in implementing a solution to a problem or to analyze how the technology they just learned could address issues in their own lives or businesses. These types of questions encourage self-insight and personal application rather than general answers. Additionally, it may help to clarify that grades will be based on students' ability to independently solve problems without relying heavily on ChatGPT. At the same time, ChatGPT can be framed as a tool to accelerate learning rather than a substitute for critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
