Lecrae got his “Christian rapper” label from his first three albums. They weren’t just clean. They’re straight up theology and scripture, repeating the name of Christ over and over, calling out the sin glorified in mainstream hip hop and the culture.

@Brandon Mitchell I don't think he veered off though. His style just evolved. He said in his book that he doesn't like that super preachy music he put out at first that was trying to appeal to mega churches and stuff like that. His music now is instead in the world but not of it.

@Barley's Affordable Automotive Repair & Sales LLC You sound like one of those people who seem to think that every single Christian has to have ONE way of thinking. Who are you to say that someone isn't a Christian when you don't truly know anything about them? In Carpools, Aha said "I'm just a rapper, not a pastor, I never said I'd be." You can't say someone isn't a Christian because they talk about stuff other than Jesus. Lemme guess. You think NF isn't a Christian anymore because he raps about the struggles he deals with in his life instead of making a gospel rap?

Barley's Affordable Automotive Repair & Sales LLC so I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make, considering that the text that you just read is talking about separation of godliness and the wicked, and how one must not be double minded if they serve Christ. I do agree that some rappers have steered away from the truth because they are chosing to be double minded. I also agree with you when you say that double mindedness can be involved in rap when a rapper sings something completely different than about God. However, don’t let this confuse you that rappers have many different gifts and some present the Lord‘s presence and his holiness in different ways. It may seem like Lecrae is not using any of gods gifts for a greater purpose, however many have to understand that a rapper does not have to necessarily preach the same way, to carry across God’s initial message. At no time in my life, being able to go to many churches as I moved to different countries and cities, have I seen preachers preach the same message the exact same way. There’s multiple verses in the Bible and stories, yet whenever I listen to preachers talking about the same verses in Bible stories, none of them give the same sermon. This is because there’s different routes, different stories in life, and different approaches and experiences many have to go through that are very comparable to its topic throughout the Bible stories that we all know today. The same can be said when people present God‘s presence in multiple other gifts God has blessed his people with. Poetry being such, it is safe to say as long as one is talking and presenting God‘s holiness and their music, and also living the lifestyle after the song ends, they have not “steered away”. Though, I can’t directly assume this because God is the ultimate judge and he will judge them on their hearts and their intentions especially behind the music.

@@infinitrixtv92 Exactly. My problem is the people who think they're the ones who get to do God's job and condemn everyone and judge who is and who is not a Christian. If that guy has actually listened to his 180 project, he would realize Aha is still a Christian. He admits he lost his way some but that he's getting back to it. You can hear him in a better place on his Secession project too

    • @infinitrixtv92

Jason Crocker yes I agree and that is sad because God has so much potential for those people. It’s very common that many Christians only want to say what they want to believe and never mention parts of the Bible that contradict some of their own ideas. We should be reading the word and teaching others with personal experiences that correlate to it, rather than teaching others our own truths and then taking out Bible verses that support what we think. I personally dabbled into AHA’s new album songs, I was actually questioning if he was speaking about God and if his music centers on his message...and it seems like he it’s still being worked on. But these rappers are human so it is understandable that they’re not completely there yet. Just be careful what they say in their music and stay close to the word, in case of false doctrines and misconceptions.

Literally the whole reason people call Lecrae a “Christian rapper” is the fact the he actually preaches in his songs about scripture and Jesus’ love. He also criticizes mainstream hip hop for singing about drugs, money, and women. It’s there in all of his songs, idk what’s so hard to understand about that

This whole 'i don't like titles and labels' thing is just a front for the individual not wanting to turn from their sin but wants to continue saying 'God this' and 'God that' in their music. Matthew 7:21

I agree with a lot of things that Aha said in this interview. He shouldn’t feel pressure to fit a mold. Those who judge Aha Gazelle for not calling himself a “Christian rapper” should hold themselves to the same standard. For example, if you work at Starbucks, call yourself a Christian Starbucks employee. Or if you work in Real Estate, call yourself a Christian real estate agent. You see what I mean?😂 People should be able to tell by the fruit that you bear that you are a Christ-follower. In other words, you should be shining so bright for Jesus that you don’t even need to call yourself a Christian rapper, because people will already see the evidence that God is real in your life!

We can't say we're Christians and continue with our sin. When God Cleansed us, the old man departed. Which concludes we look nothing like ourselves when we were lost. Christian artists like Rodandkita paint a vivid picture for this. Their song "breakthrough" is so spot on. I recommend checking it out.

In my opinion the difference between a Christian rapper and a rapper that’s Christian is if you’re a “Christian Rapper” you also have to have an element of Anti-Rap. Meaning you have to put forth and effort to abandon the normal conventions of Hip Hop and call out how they’re wack or whatever. Chance the Rapper doesn’t really do this, even tho he’s a Christian but Kanye West does, which is why people are putting him in the CHH conversation now, even tho he’s not in the CHH community. Does that make sense?

  • @proddyg6348
    @proddyg6348 4 роки тому +9

At the end of the day, whoever reads this, Aha made points that aren’t what Christianity is about. What happened at the label I obviously aren’t an expert on. But when someone sees following commandments of Christ as a burden and not a blessing, then that person needs to repent and seek GOD’s face, and ask God to transform their hearts and mind to where they treasure Christ above all things and see obedience as a blessing that is rooted in our love for God. I suggest watching John Piper “Look at the Book Love for GOD” on UA-cam. Repent of your sins and put all faith unto Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believe who He says He is, and that all your hope of being saved rests upon His person and work. And follow Him, continuing that faith and repentance (by the grace and sovereignty of GOD) all the days of your lives. GOD Bless you all. Praying 4 u🙏🏾

I know I am late to this party BUT... Aha just about hits the nail on the head..."...I dont feel like its an argument about religion, I feel like this is an argument about cultures!!" ...and he makes a GREAT POINT...Hip Hop in its early stages was young African Americans trying to voice and express themselves through musical art in a new and different way than what existed...and depending on the particular artist experiences it could be clean or rough, but it was hip hop... it connected with a particular group of people, became lucrative and then demonized. NOW...hip-hop BEGAN SECULAR but not so much demonized...they(demons) got involved once the focus became about $$...originally, an artistic outlet to tell a story and connect/help other people... WHY WOULD THE CHURCH AND RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY FIGHT SOOOOOOO HARD WHEN JESUS DECIDES TO START INFILTRATING THE HIP HOP CULTURE?????????????????????????????????????????????????? I D K and it doesn't make sense to me either!!! Do you Aha!! I am a supporter and will continue to bump Hip Hop about Jesus that resonates with me!! PERIOD!!

When you truly believe something, it paints your whole world...doesn't it? So if you truly believe in Jesus...then your world revolves around Him. For example...if you're legally American and you venture out into music....whatever you sing will be an American song...because that is who you truly are. The issue is...what are we? Are we believers? If we don't want to serve God whole-heartedly then what's the point of serving Him at all? It's called picking a side fam. Do you really believe? If you do, then you'll live for Him.

I know that I'm super late to this, but I just wanted to share my thoughts with anyone who may be reading this now, 4 years later. As believers, our "identity" is found in Christ. If indeed we are believers, we are a new creation, putting behind the old man. So, Christ, and our identity in Christ, must be at the forefront of everything that we do. Whether it's in teaching, plumbing, nursing, homekeeping, administration, friendships, rapping, singing, videography, etc... everything that we do is to be done to the glory of God. I don't understand how anyone who claims to have placed his or her faith in Jesus Christ, and who has been SAVED by His grace, being cleansed of their sins and given a new name and a promise of eternal life, would not want to make Christ as LORD over their music, or business, or talents. Why would anyone who has tasted and seen that the Lord is good not want to proclaim His name and shout it from the rooftops? Why wouldn't they want to be "labeled" as a "christian (fill in the blank)"? Are they not at all grateful for the price that was paid for their lives? I would think that a follower of Christ would be honored to carry the name of Christ as a banner over their lives in any and every situation. And, a believer would want others to see Christ in them first; before the talent, before the skill or ability. We are not called to live by "our truth". We are called to live by "THE truth". We're not called to do "our thing." We are called to do HIS WILL. What scripture says matters. It matters to God, and it should matter to us. We are to live by faith, to repent, to turn away from wickedness, to deny ourselves, to live by the spirit, to pick up our cross and follow Him. God gave us our gifts. He gave us our talents. Of course He would want us to use them. Of course, He will bless us, of course He will see us through... but for His glory, not our own. I will pray for you brother. I don't know where you stand now, but my hope is that you develop a close, intimate relationship with the Lord and that you may see your platform as a MINISTRY first. And I pray that you see His goodness and that you be filled with His joy and His peace. I pray that God continues to use you to speak life to the brokenhearted, because I do believe that He is indeed using you. That you may bring many to the feet of Christ and that they may be transformed by His power.

As soon as you publicly come out as a christian.. you are automatically held to a standard by God.
    And people..
Problem is, people's standards often times.. more times than not, don't match up with God's.
God's standard btw, is perfection, which is why we ALL need a savior. So God sent Jesus. Those who place their trust in Jesus alone regarding salvation from sin truly, they are the ones who's hearts have been regenerated according to sctiptuer, heart of stone taken out and given in its place a ❤️ of flesh.
Once ones heart is regenerated.. being labeled a Christian is a beautiful thing. Not an issue. Here is why.. you then want to walk in the light and not in the dark. (Dark=sin)
Behind closed doors.. who among us can throw a stone? Better yet, who among us who ARE believers, would even want to throw a stone from the mind set that you have a stone to throw.. that part right.
Now, to judge another believer with righteous judgment, we are called to do so. Holding a believer accountable by mentioning hey, this may be a sin according to God's Word, mahmybe check that out with them in scripture, and yall conversate about it. God thr Holy Spirit will either open said sinners eyes, or not. It all depends on God's plans.
But to judge people from thr perspective of, I'm better than you.. that's antithetical to God's Word.

I agree. Thank the Lord He has enough grace to see past the mistakes we make, even after being saved.
It’s really debilitating when you come across people who think because they stopped this or started doing this that their saved, it’s grace all the way.
Look at every person in the Bible, if you were to peer into their lives at random points you would probably say “wow, theirs no way their saved”

"The idea of reaching 'a good life'withou Christ is based on a double error. Firstly, we cannot do it; and secondly, in setting up a 'good life' as our final goal, we have missed the very point of our existence. Mortality is a mountain we cannot climb by our own efforts;and if we could we should only perish in the ice and unbreathable air of the summit, lacking those wings with which the rest of the journey has to be accomplished. For it is there that the real ascent begins. The ropes and axes are 'done away with' and the rest is a matter of flying."

There’s a lot of comments saying that Aha is no longer Christian or that he’s lost his way. Don’t forget that when Jesus was on earth, he told the religious leaders (Pharisees) that they were wrong and preached against them.
Aha is absolutely right. Hip hop is a form of music that is incredibly catchy, addicting and fun. However, back in the 70s and 80s when it originated, it was the black communities that were doing it and the white communities (not all white peoples but the majority) didn’t like it because there was still that segregated mindset. Don’t forget that “Chuck Berry made it but the credit went to Elvis.” This is the same bs.
So what “holier than thou” communities did was find rappers that rapped about the gospel and called it Christian hip hop and all of a sudden it was ok for non black people to listen to it. That’s crap!
What else is crap is when you are white (like me) and grow up listening to biggie, Tupac, big L, Nas, TCQ and all of your relatives, teachers, pastors, Sunday school teachers and your own parents look at you like you’ve lost your way or that you’ve backslid from God. They can’t accept that you may be able to accept other cultures.
YOU CAN LISTEN TO HIP HOP AND BE A CHRISTIAN EVEN IF ITS NOT CHH.
Keep speaking truth Aha. If Jesus came back today and gathered 12 new disciples, there wouldn’t be a single religious leader in his posse just like there wasn’t a single Pharisee in his posse 2000 years ago.

@@proddyg6348 Hey brother Able first off i want to wish you strength in the Lord and to stay rooted in the Word. Now, what i meant by my comment is.. Lecrea and all the.. Mainstream chh rappers are in an industry, they are at the forefront of this industry but it is still an industry. Can they help lead people to Christ? Absolutely God uses murderers and rapists to do this too God gets His will done no matter what. However, I've been watching them for many years, in my opinion they are more about their industry rather than the Kingdom. There is a looooot of money in it. Why have none of the rappers on the label been trying to warn people about New Age movement? Or been calling out false teachers like Joel Osteen? They have a perfect platform to do so.. Also why have they not made any songs about how homosexuality is a sin and wrong, just as wrong as masturbation and pornography? It's because they need their industry to be appealing enough to make money. Even though i don't agree with everything Aha does, i admire his realness. Lecrea and the mainstream artists represent the knights in shining armor ya they fight but they are putting up a show with the rules they have to follow to appease the culture enough to make money. The ones i am talking about are the ones that will be real and call out nonsense and not be afraid to lose money to do so. Also.. You don't hear the mainstream artists talk much about the groupies they get at the shows. I know one artist on their label i forgot which one that told one of my female friends at a Christian music festival "You make me want to sin" any God fearing man that is evangelising knows better than to say things like that. It's because a lot of these artists aren't completely real. I respect KB for writing a song about one of his experiences on the exact thing i just stated. I wish he'd talk about how big of an issue these artists really have with this. But this us my point they're "Christian" enough to get paid and still look like Christians to the world. I'm not saying they're not Christians. I'm just saying as a person with higher responsibility and as leaders and influencers they need some more accountability.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these major Christian rappers have a deal with the devil.
